I love Char! I live in Boston, MA, and visit family often in Jackson. Every time I’m here, I like to eat at Char! The food is amazing; the service is stellar; and the ambiance is quiet enough for great conversation. I cannot give Char high enough marks! I will continue to visit every chance I get!!❤️🎉

Thank you for your recent visit to Char. I am sorry to have fallen short of expectations and regret how this negatively impacted your overall experience with us. While we do our best to plan accordingly for busy weekend nights, we do sometimes run out of product towards the end of a Friday night. Please know this is not the norm here, and I have shared this with our culinary team for review. Thank you again for your patronage; we hope you will consider visiting us again in the near future.
Char is always consistently good. The steaks are always tender, and the wait staff is very attentive without being intrusive.

Outing was exceptional! Waitress Julia was phenomenal! I only ask that management bring a flavored lemonade, strawberry for example. 5 out of 5 stars!

Brunch before movie day trip. BBQ shrimp and tomato mozzarella for appetizers. Right amount of spice for shrimp and nice tomato for this time of year. Wife has chicken BLT, off menu but her favorite. I had ahi tuna melt, nice portion cooked perfect.

Understand, I have shared at least 100 5-star meals here. Not tonight. With a 7 pm reservation, we arrived 15 minutes early but were not seated until 7:20 pm. There were about 20 people with reservations in the lobby. The knew then the experience might not be excellent. Either the back of the house was have problems or was understaffed or management had overbooked the seating. On the way to our seats, I noted five empty tables (maybe they were also short staffed in the front of the house. My wife rarely drinks an alcoholic beverage but requested a glass of Prosecco tonight. She was served some syrupy sweet something, when she sent back to the bar. The second time the bar got it right. My wife and I decided to have filets, one small and one large. We received one small and one ribeye. It took about 15 minutes to receive the replacement. My wife's filet was warm and mine was a little warmer, both cooked to medium rare as requested. The baked potato and asparagus with mushrooms were both warm. The hottest thing served was the spinach au gratin which was almost too hot to eat. My wife pronounced the butter crunch cake fair, a little raw in the center. We know Char can do better but they apparently had some challenges tonight. Throughout the meal we noted that may parents with small children were doing a poor job of controlling their offspring, it was very noisy. This is not Char's problem but they need to figure out how to congregate those with small children in one of the two areas that can be noise-secured.

We haven’t been to Char in a while so on New Year’s Eve we decided to give it another try. First of all, the food was very delicious and cooked to perfection this time. Crab cakes were great! My husband had a steak and he loved it. I got the Chargrilled Mahi and that dish was superb! Kudos to the cook that night!
We had a waiter that was fairly new that kept returning to the table so often that it was hard to have a conversation. He never asked if we were done eating but start clearing the table before we were done. We felt a bit rushed. My husband had worked as a waiter when he was younger so he and I know what it’s like getting started so we had more patience. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal.

Food and service were great, but I do not want to sit in the back room again. It was a bit noisy and the ambiance was poor compared to eating in the front of the restaurant.

The waitress was nice but i got up from the table and she had taken my food away when i came back. She didn’t ask if we needed anything when the food came back but said “everything looks good!” I needed something the entire meal and she never came back.

Sara was so sweet. The food and drinks were great. And we didn’t feel like we were being rushed to eat and leave like at other restaurants. Will definitely be back!

Today was my daughter’s 23rd birthday, and she wanted to have dinner at Char with me, her mother, and my mother, her grandmother. It was a really nice place to spend the evening together.

Food and ambiance were great as always.
My cocktail (old fashion) took a long time to arrive at the table and too sweet.
Our 8 oz filets were outstanding - could not have been better.
The prices were on the high side -$34 for an 8 oz steak and a few stems of broccoli or an 8 oz steak and small bowl of mushrooms was a bit pricey. A dinner salad would have added a lot of value.
More gluten free and lactose free options would be appreciated.
Our overall experience was good at Char. Our server was seemingly new or inexperienced but very pleasant. She was a hot mess after spilling the adjacent tables drink order all over a guest. The meal including appetizers were very good. My only disappointment was that of no steak on the lunch/brunch menu besides a chopped steak.
Simply amazing experience! Great food, professional staff and a very celestial atmosphere.
Great time as always. The lights went out but the staff kept moving like nothing happened, they only were out for like 1 min or so. Food was amazing. Service was great.
The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. I had The Chop. The leftovers were even better.

Sarah Grace (I believe that was her name) was our server and she did an amazing job of suggesting items on the menu and what she enjoyed from Char. I always like to hear if the servers eat the food I am about to eat. She also knew we had been there before because the first thing we requested was crab claws and they often aren't available on Monday nights when we sometimes come to dine. She went above and beyond with her service and we appreciate that. Made for an enjoyable anniversary dinner.

We went on a Sunday, so perhaps the "B team" was on staff. Server wasn't able to make clear recommendations. Bread was not delivered and when we asked for it, we were given some strange explanation instead of "sure, no problem". My salad fork was taken away with the salad plate and no replacement given, so I sat with my steak for a good 5 minutes without a utensil. Had to ask for ketchup with the fries (really?). Our steaks were ordered medium rare and were clearly rare.
The food was good, but the whole experience negated it. Heard they hype, didn't live up to it.

The crab claws seemed grainy and especially small, resulting in a less than normal serving size. The pecan pie came out “ smoking” hot—too long in Microwave??—and nuts tasted burnt ( not kidding). Less than satisfactory. The GF cheesecake was excellent, as was the Char burger. Just not used to less than exceptional food.
Thank you for including several excellent new wines, especially Columbia & Willamette Valley. Chateau Ste. Michelle a fave. I also noted the outstanding Rose’ selections and interesting whites—Babylastoren is another fave and thank you for offering some of the lesser known fantastic whites like viognier and chenin Blanc !

We consider ourselves regulars at Char. We often dine 5+ times a month. It seems as if there has been a big turnover in wait-staff. We only recognized a couple of people last night. There was also a new manager we had never seen before and she made sure that we knew she was “management”! The whole vibe just seemed different and off. The server was not very attentive. She had attitude when we had to ask for water refills, as if we were bothering her. Plus she was so slow. She also made little comments attempting to be funny I guess but it was just weird and off putting.
The food was sub par at best. The fried green tomatoes were too green and hard. The char salad greens seemed to be of lesser quality and we had to ask for bread.

It was so good, we went back for a second meal. Our servers RAven and Xavia were fantastic. My dad had the best Tomato Basil soup he has ever had. He also really enjoyed the Chili that they always serve on Sunday nights. The whipped sweet potatoes were phenomenal! Char was excellent and we will be back!
