                                                      Everything is new at Tuthill, new chef, new menu, new owners. Inconsistent food in the past, but no more. Always great service, beautiful in and out, and now very friendly bartenders Sean and Patrick enhance a caring staff and management. It is really nice to have such a gem right here in Gardiner.

                                                      We took the family to celebrate New Years Day, and they had food that met our youngest appetite and ours as well. My wife and I will come back and try a romantic date and something else on the menu. Also, great original drinks.

                                                      The food and ambiance were both great. Unfortunately, it took us an hour to get our food (and they weren't particularly busy either). They were very apologetic about it and gave us a free drink, but it still kind of put a damper on the experience.

                                                      Hard to explain, but this place is just excellent. The service is simply the best - the ownership must take a real interest in the workers, each is as pleasant as can be. Everything I've ever ordered is delicious - portions are fair. Reservations will insure you a spot. Go early for a tasting. Dessert's are best with a cup of coffee, which is outstanding.

                                                      A friend and I went away for the weekend and went to this place for dinner. It was a very nicely decorated and the ambience was romantic and calming. Our server was awesome. Very good personality. The venison meatloaf was a little Gamey which is understandable. We tried the lentil soup and black bean soup and they were okay. Portions are big. I had salmon which was very good. Cocktails were really good as well. Overall a good place and we will return. Outside patio was beautiful.

                                                      Loved everything about it. The atmosphere and menu is a good balance of laid back and fancy. Design and décor were very well done. The food we ordered was cooked perfectly. I got salmon and was cooked just right. Would definitely go back next time we are in the area.

                                                      My husband and I had lunch here on our anniversary. Decor was rustic with a few modern elements strewn about. We sat by the window and the view was beautiful. Food and service were great, but we were especially impressed with the variety of unique cocktails. I had the plum and blackberry gimlet which was amazing, and they were able to make a vesper for my husband. (This is only the second place he's been able to get one.) We would definitely go back and would recommend to our friends.

                                                      Lovely restaurant, very friendly staff including our server, but one of the three appetizers took well over a half an hour to arrive and the other two arrived long before our drinks were served...they could not find olives for our martinis! .I would go back because it's so pretty and the food was good, but something went very wrong with our order and no amount of smiling and apolgizing could fix that!

                                                      We had a great time at this quaint and fun restaurant. We enjoyed the interesting cocktails, and the small lunch menu was just right for us. Afterward we went for a tour and tasting at the distillery. It's a perfect setting for a fall day. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

                                                      I made a reservation for six people on 10/04/15 at 1pm. We arrived on time and were told that a table was being set, and it would take about ten minutes. Instead of setting a table in the upstairs dining area like we were told was going to happen, we were made to wait at the bar until 1:45 while another table took their time to pay their bill. Just before we were going to be seated, I asked the bartender for a brunch menu and was told that they no longer serve brunch on Sundays. I was told that all mention of brunch was SUPPOSED to be taken off their website, but that there must have been an oversight, and the only good available was the regular lunch menu. An attempt to celebrate my wife's birthday turned into a complete disaster. We left without being seated.

                                                      We had a very mixed reaction to the Tuthill House. Their drinks / specialty cocktails are outstanding. Our appetizer was very good, however the chicken entre was badly overcooked, dry as could be. We ate outside on a deck, overlooking the stream, a very pleasant atmosphere on a summer evening. The outside experience was spoiled by two things: First was that they allowed dogs on the deck, and there were three in the course of our meal, including one large dog that was noisy and disruptive, spoiling an otherwise tranquil setting. Second, the waitress spilled a drink on our meals; she was apologetic, but generally weak in her waitressing skills. -- We'd go again for the drinks.

                                                      We went here for my Mom's birthday and were expecting to have a special brunch. We checked out the menu online to make sure they had options for us(vegetarian) and they had several. We got there and were informed they were not serving brunch that day, which was very disappointing. We had lunch because we had come from 45 minutes away. They have a few veg options for lunch and 3 of us got the mushroom flatbread. My sister's came out without the same toppings as the other two and the several waitresses that we has did not notice. Also, we ordered an appetizer of fries that came after we were done with lunch. Lunch took nearly an hour to arrive so you can imagine how we were hoping for those fries.. They have no drinks except hot coffee and alcoholic drinks and were surprised when I asked for ice coffee (it was 90 degrees and we were outside). I took a chance and had them make it and it was not made properly . We had over 5 different servers come to us and none of them had a firm grasp on what was going on. Food lacked seasoning and the wait was not worth it. The area is nice, scenic and overlooking a stream.

                                                      We sat on the terrace which has limited seating (1 table for 4) with the sound of the mill sleuce in the background and view of the river. The menu was limited but with at least one selection in the major categories. The prices are moderately high ($28 for a strip steak of Ok quality) and bean burger for $15. Drink prices are high $14 for specialty drinks made with the distillery liquor but unique enough to make them worthwhile. The Thai dish $23 was extremely spicy but was cooled down with a requested extra helping of coconut rice. For dessert we shared a chocolate torte and strawberry shortcake. The torte was not torte - like but more like a cookie and the shortcake was made using a homemade biscuit with too few strawberries and skimpy on the whipped cream. All in all the food was passable and the experience was made worthwhile by the historic setting.

                                                      Went for lunch on my birthday, 8/9/15. Had made reservations for five. When we were seated, we were given a light fare menu. When we asked about this extremely limited menu, we were told this was due to a large event having been held there the day before. Ordered an appetizer off this limited menu, and were informed the appetizer was not available. Ordered mussels instead, they were served without extra forks or a bowl for the shells. We ordered burgers and a flat bread for lunch. The burgers were good, the flat bread was not. It did not look appealing and the taste was bland. Service was mediocre, the lunch was disappointing as a whole.

                                                      I made an online reservation for 3 to sit at the 4 top on the porch. I also called and left a message on the answering machine with the same request just to confirm. Upon arrival the hostess didn't have knowledge of our reservation and the table was given to another party. We were wondering what to do and sat at the bar. The bartender ignored us as he went through his stock so we had to wave him down and request service for drinks. This was at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday and there were only 2 tables besides us. I have been here many times before and always get outstanding service from Darin but he wasn't on that evening. it looks like the staff that was on that evening was "green" needs some training. We would have never known about opentable.com if we hadn't been prompted by the website to make a reservation. It was disappointing that evening but we will continue to come back because other experiences were good.

                                                      The service was excellent. Menu more conducive to lunch/brunch than fine dining but was very good. The bar, which is beautiful, is too big for the dining room. We felt pushed against the wall. Servers have very little room to navigate. We were next to the door leading to the deck and found it annoying when servers had to open the door continuously and had to rest drinks on our table in order to open the door. We hadn't visited since last year and were surprised at the changes. I think they are definitely playing to a younger bar crowd.

                                                      The food and the tour were excellent. However it took quite some time for a server to greet our table. It took even longer to get bread and drinks for the table. Our appetizers came the same time as our drinks. A second round of drinks (two of the drinks were specialty drinks and two were beer or wine) took even longer than the first round. Our entrees took over an hour. The manager (I believe her name is Lucia) took $40 off the bill as well as bought dessert for the table. However, when we received the bill, there were two charges on there totaling $86 that did not belong on our bill. We also spoke to Greg who is the general manager and he was very apologetic. As previously stated, the food was excellent but the restaurant was simply not prepared for a busy Saturday night. We drove almost two hours to get to this restaurant and ended up being extremely disappointed with the service.

                                                      I was interested in seeing where the Hudson Baby Bourbons were made and possibly pick up some bottles that I couldn't get in PA. And since we were on a road trip to Vermont, we thought this would be a good place to stop for lunch. My girlfriend Rebecca is vegetarian and the menu offered a lot of choices for her. This always brings high marks from us! I ordered the salmon plate on a bed of cooked spinach and some sort of pea purée. It all worked together fabulously. My only complaint would be an addition of a starch like some brown rice, just my preference. Rebecca ordered a plate of rice noodles with a nice curry sauce. She loved it and I had a taste and thought it was great. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu, whether items were completely vegetarian, and had excellent recommendations on drinks. The bar tender made an outstanding gin cocktail and was happy to tell her about the preparation of what was certainly something complex to prepare (it had frothed egg whites). It is only fair to say that we dined there mid afternoon, and there was only one other table dining at the time, so we certainly did get a lot of attention from our server. But I am certain that their attention to customer service would be nothing but stellar, given a full staff on a busy evening. Highly recommended!!

                                                      I have been to the Tuthill House on quite a few occasions. As far as service goes, this was the best time. Our waiter Alex was the best! He was welcoming, attentive, friendly and had a great personality. The food was outstanding as usual. The crispy fried tofu was excellent as were the entrees. It was my daughters 21st birthday and we brought a cake with us that Alex graciously lit the candles and brought to the table. The only disappointing aspect was the major change in the dining room. The Tuthill House used to be such a quaint, romantic place to dine and now it is more like a large bar with the dining tables surrounding it. There is no privacy and you can see and hear everything going on in the restaurant. I used to love to dine there for a romantic night but now I think I will reserve the Tuthill House only for special occasions.

                                                      Had lunch on July 3 after doing a whiskey tasting in the distillery. Very friendly staff that was attentive and accomodating. The food was outstanding! There were 3 of us and we all enjoyed every dish. Most notable was the mussel appetizer. We saved the sauce from the mussels and scooped up every last drop. The spicy eggplant entree and the gnocchi entree were also delicious and my husband loved the chorizo burger. There bartender is a magician. He makes the best Manhattan I've ever had and the Basil and Bourbon cocktail was outstanding. Also had the Sage Advise cocktail which was very refreshing and went great with the mussels. Sat outside right over the waterfall which was a bit loud but you get used to it and it blocks out other tables' conversations which I like. The scenery was beautiful. This is going to be a regular stop when we have guests in town. It's all around impressive yet the prices are resonable and as far as quality goes, I'd put it up against any Manhattan restaurant.

                                                      The front parking lot was being dug up by backhoes, so I wasn't sure if they open even though I had made a reservation. I quick call assured me they were and to park at the distillery across the road. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I wanted a cocktail, but I didn't care for any of the ones listed on the menu. The bartender graciously produced The Ivy, which was heavenly. If you're ever in Gardiner, NY you should make sure you dine at this restaurant.

                                                      My Wife and I were looking for a Nice place for a Date. This place more than fit the Bill. Upon arrival we were greeted by no less than six personnel who asked if we had been taken care of. We were told by the first Person that they would just be setting up a table. The Fourth person who was a little older offered us a better location overlooking the river. The waitstaff was very prompt and food was excellent. We had the Prime Rib Hash. After our Meal we took a tour of the Distillery next Door.

                                                      Local farm-to-table is really important to me. For my husband's birthday, I treated him to the tour, tasting, and brunch. The people are so knowledgeable about the history of the mill. It's refreshing to see people who are young and EXCITED about not only working, but working where they do. The tour- AWESOME! The tasting- well, duh, AWESOME! After brunch, we even got a tour of the basement (to see the inner workings of the mill) and met 2 chefs collaborating over supplies. He and I then went upstairs (for larger parties) and checked out all the cool things there). They make you feel like family. The food- OMG- the food! You HAVE to go for brunch and get the PEI mussels, pork belly hash, and a smoked salmon BLT!!! I always research restaurants/menus before I go. I learned PEI means Prince Edward Islands. I wanted to drink the rest of the bowl of sauce from the mussels!!!!! The prices are really reasonable. The portions are great. The ambiance is wonderful!!! We didn't want to leave!!                                                       Delicious food and cocktails, great service! We were just a little bummed that our 5:30 reservation meant they were already out of two of the items we wanted on the menu. We'll be back to try them, though!

                                                      I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Previously, we had eaten inside the restaurant, and again outside and enjoyed our evening here. Thsi time, when I walked in, I stood feet away from a huge bar, no one acknowledged us. I had to open the kitchen door to get help. We sat inside along the window, jammed up against the back end of the bar. It was so noisy that our guests who came down from Utica to go out to what used to be our favorite place, could not even hear each other. We waited 20 minutes for a cocktail and had to request a refill, which took another 20 minutes. There were 4 people at the bar. The food was very good, but the atmosphere was terrible. It was a strain to hear the waiter. The bar is way to big, and too dark. As a restaurant it falls far below even MacDonalds as far as environment. It was awful!!!!

                                                      The drinks are what this place is known for. Get there early and have one at the bar. Food was well prepared and offers a good variety. Service staff tried hard but was a bit helter skelter. They were super friendly throughout the whole night so I can't really hold it against them

                                                      A delicious cocktail using their own distillery's rye and bitters could not compensate for over-cooked and over-peppered fish, under-seasoned veg, and what seems like a good idea but poorly executed special of the day. We wanted to like our meal, we really did. Service was sloppy, including reaching across in front of guests rather than walking around to put down and retrieve flatware and glasses, having to ask questions about menu items or for drinks more than once ("oh, I forgot" was server's reply). Any return trip will find us at the bar for drinks only. Bummer.

                                                      What a great lunch we had. The food was excellent and the cocktails added to the meal. There is a great cocktail list that really complements the food and sets you up to visit the distillery when your done. We had a great time and would return for a meal and a drink the next time we are in the area.

                                                      We had Mother's Day reservations for 3:30pm. We arrived 15 minutes late, due to an unexpected road detour. My wife called the restaurant to tell them that we would be a few minutes late and to please hold our reservation. Upon arrival, we found that there was no table waiting for us, but there WERE empty tables visible. Granted, we were late, but it has been my experience that reservations are held for 30 minutes before being cancelled. We were asked to sit at the bar while we were waiting for a table. We sat there for 15 minutes, trying to get that bartender's attention in order to get drinks. He never greeted us and whizzed past us many times, in spite of me trying to get his attention. We actually were brought to a table before the bartender could serve us. Our waiter promptly brought menus and took our orders. We ordered one appetizer for the party of 5 to share. We didn't see our appetizer until 75 minutes later. Try as me might, we couldn't get our waiter's attention to ask about our appetizer. He also went whizzing past us a number of times. Apparently, there was some kind of party going on upstairs in their private room and the rest of the clients were "put on hold." Our entrees arrived about 30 minutes after the appetizer did. The food was fair. I had the chicken, which was spicy and dry. The highlight of my meal were their purple mashed potatoes . I understand that Mother's Day is a busy day, but the restaurant seemed to be very unprepared for it. To have reservations and STILL have to wait for a table was uncalled for. Our meals were not worth the amount of time we had to wait for them. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
