Located inside the modern grounds of the InterContinental Presidente hotel, Chapulin serves traditional Mexican cuisine in spacious, lodge-style surrounds done up with wood accents. Como siempre el personal amable, dispuesto, informado, con un servicio rápido y eficaz. El lugar es agradable, fresco, ventilado. Decepciona un tanto su comida, se nota un cambio drástico de chef o de dirección. Cada año visitábamos este lugar por su chile en nogada que ésta vez, aunque bueno, quedó muy lejos de su nivel original. Esperamos que estos cambios en la calidad no sean el fin de un restaurante que se estaba convirtiendo en un clásico.

Once again, I probably went to early for dinner on a Friday night. The place is stunning, the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The food (I had the Chapulin grasshopper appetizer and the beef tongue entree) was incredible. But something was missing. Definitely go, definitely later than 6:30 pm and try the fun cocktails!

Awful experience. Very pricy but not worth the money. Service was very slow, disjointed, not attentive, and inexperienced. Yet they expected a big tip at the end. I waited over 30 minutes for my drink, barely touched my food as it wasn’t good, nobody asked why I left that much food, then waited 30 minutes for the check. I must have had 5 different wait staff who attended to me at one point or another. And it was like they didn’t speak to each other at all. Consider they only had about 3 tables in the non-smoking section and about the same in the other section, but they had a lot more wait staff than clients. There is no excuse for this bad of a service in such a high end place.

The evening was not off to a great start when they couldn’t find my reservation that I had made through Open Table. The waiter asked if we wanted a drink, wine, margarita etc. We asked if there were any specialty margaritas. He suggested the house margarita with Padron Blanco and Grand Marnier. We asked for 2 frozen. The two margaritas come out on the rocks. They were good but nothing special. We ordered our appetizers and main course selections. The food was good bet not exceptional. We asked for a second margarita with our main course. They did come out frozen as requested. Our surprise came when we were presented with our bill. The food portion of our bill was reasonably priced but the cost of our 4 margaritas with Padron Blanco came in at 1764.00 pesos
I was floored to be paying about 100:00 US for 4 mediocre margaritas. I discussed this with the waiter who sent the manager over. He did deduct the cost of 1 margarita. I felt he should have deducted the cost of two. The waiter, when he came over to have me pay the bill was incensed that my tip was less than 10%. He was not attentive and I was still aggravated at the margarita cost. The tip was my way of saying you should have told me about the margarita cost. Bottom line, my experience was not great. Hopefully others will have a better experience.

Normalmente este restaurante tiene una excelente cocina; en esta visita la comida estuvo bien, sin embargo, esto se vio opacado por el servicio. Tardaron bastante en llevarnos al menos agua, y esto en respuesta a nuestras continuas peticiones. Hubo dos comensales que ya no cenaron justamente porque lo que pidieron nunca llegó

El ruido en el salón fue muy alto, la experiencia no es agradable, la tarde del domingo hizo mucho calor y el salón no tenía aire acondicionado, los meseros parecían insuficientes ante la cantidad de comensales que había, la entrada de chapulines con quesillo y guacamole simplemente exquisita, el ceviche de camarón que es su plato insignia fue pobre, la sopa de tortilla igual, los platos fuertes y el postre mejoraron muchísimo la percepción.

He conocido algunos restaurantes alrededor de esta zona y nunca había estado aquí. Realmente disfruté mi estancia, ya que desde la recepción muestran mucha amabilidad. El capitán nos recibe y atiende dándonos a escoger alguna mesa más cómoda de la asignada. El mesero nos atiende con diligencia y atención, mostrándonos la carta y sugiriendonos algunos platillos y bebidas. La comida excepcional incluso el postre. Mi regreso está asegurado.

I did an open table reservation for 10 persons through the internet site. Due to 2 participants cancelation, I called Chapulin Restaurant in advance to inform on that respect. Additionally, I asked for a round table for the 8 persons on the main terrace area. Mrs. Anna, to whom I spoke over the phone, confirmed my request. When I arrived to the restaurant there was no round table available nor reserved as agreed with Mrs Anna on the phone. I could only see one round table for 8 people in the main terrace however it was already given to other customer. My reservation under Mr. VPA was for 14:30, I arrived at the restaurant at 14:00. At the end we got a rectangular table which was not to our full satisfaction.
Due to how the glass windows are installed, on a windy day, there is a loud whistling noise in the main terrace area. This noise is uncomfortable when trying to communicate with others at the table.
The food was acceptable however nothing outstanding and definitely expensive to what you get.
Service was ok, however the waiters where not really alert to our requests. For example, to get tortillas we had to ask always several times in order to get them.
I do not find fair that despite a parking discount I have to pay over 100 pesos for the parking space.
I also do not find fair the payment of a “cubierto” and why a child in our table had to pay the same amount of an adult despite she not having any dish.

We enjoyed are visit to Chapulín. The food was very good and service was quite good this evening. The environs of the restaurant were very pleasant and conducive to a fine meal. When we received the check at the end of the night, there was a charge for a “cover charge” which the waiter explained was for bringing the bread. And before I could even say that I thought this was inappropriate, the waiter offered to take the cover charge off the bill and he did. I’m sorry the restaurant intended to charge us this bogus charge, since it ended the evening on a bad note for the restaurant, and because of this I will not return.

Simply put: this place ir way too overrated.
Giving a little bit more details from best to worst...
1) decoration and architecture: this is the only outstanding thing of the restaurant. Really amazing every single detail. That's why it was among the 21 Prettiest Restaurants in Mexico City according to Food and Pleasure. But... That online report never mentioned that we were to expect amazing food nor good service at all...
2) food: it is good, but it does not blow your mind... It is honestly flat... Without surprises nor anything that could make you remind of Chapulín as a good and unique restaurant.
3) service/attention: the worst without hesitating. They left us at the very cornered table, our original waiter disappeared after 20 minutes, they never offered us a clothe rack, the sommelier (first one attending us) was a disaster (he brought us the wrong wine bottle twice, then he surrendered saying they did not have what we ordered). Afterwards, the other sommelier, Hector, moved faster and found us quickly our alternate choice. However, we had already had our entrée so the damage was done...

Definitely not recommended for any occasion.
