This was our second visit, so we ordered one favorite (eggplant parma) and one entree we hadn't tried before (the smashburger). Both were excellent, served hot, and eagerly eaten. Service was top-notch, cheerful and efficient. We are already plotting what we will order on our NEXT visit. All stars all round!

Finally got to experience their breakfast. Delish avocado toast with smoked salmon and wonderful homemade granola. Coffee was ok. Wish I was able to experience dinner/drinks as stayed next door at Hilton for 2 nights but they did not notify me earlier to cancel my reservation. A little annoying as had to make different plans but lots of choices around the area.

Being Australian you have certain expectations about a cafe called Chapel street, therefore we were excited to see a Melbourne style cafe in our city.Having to make reservations made it seem like it would be worth the visit. On arrival I did notice a small flag, framed poster and an assortment of my favorite mags. These were the only origin queues. Their menu did show a few signs of this, Avo toast and baked beans and our 1st coffees were very good. The service was poor and we had to call our server a few times for flatware and condiments. All the staff are American even the front desk. My scrambled eggs were coated in steak style brown sauce which was unexpected and not pleasant. My husband enjoyed a zucchini fritter special. We were offered cold sausage roll and donut segments to sample. Our second coffees were terrible and way too strong. The ambience of chapel street where in house roasting is a central pillar where missing, with the roaster hidden behind the semi open kitchen area. As this venue serves as a hotel breakfast lobby area the vibe was more Hilton than anything else…

Hey Belinda, As the founder and lone Aussie behind Chapel Street I appreciate you coming in and also taking the time to write a review. We’re working hard every day to bring a genuinely Melbourne-style café to life here in Chicago, and being new I know we don't hit the high notes for everyone yet every time. Improvement every day is my goal and your feedback matters so I can focus on the things that make our place authentic. Thanks again for the visit, next time we'll give you the five star experience you deserve. Cheers, Shawn. Owner & Aussie-in-Residence
