The food was great, the service was outstanding; the menu is expansive with many interesting choices and the prices were modest; the restaurant sits in an old strip mall but once inside the restaurant one is greeted with a very pleasant and attractive setting; the six of us had a wonderful evening and were treated especially well by the hostess and our server; in addition, the owner stopped by to check on how we were doing; a very satisfying eevening
Went with my Thai brother-in-law for lunch. We throughly enjoyed. He said this is authentic Thai food like he and his mother cooks in Thailand.
I must admit that I've always known about this restaurant and shied away because it was in a dodgy strip mall along 41. Boy, was I wrong. I know they did a renovation a little while ago and my wife and I went for the first time last week. The inside is quite lovely, the service attentive and friendly and the food is outstanding, most likely the best Thai we have had. Anywhere. Including Thailand. Now my enthusiasm is based on one visit, but we will be back We ordered the Drunken noodles and the Amazing Chicken both medium. And they were; rather spicy but we like it that way, I cannot image the hot. So if your're not a heat seeker, order mild. The spice did not over power the dish, you could taste everything and it was super fresh. This place is a hidden gem!
Good find. Not terribly spicy. Good service. Must be a very popular place -- lots of takeout orders!
Food is excellent along with the service. I will be back
I’ve eaten here twice and the food was amazing both times! The first time I had Panang Curry and the 2nd time I had drunken noodles with shrimp. The Tom Kha soup is so good! We also tried the crispy spring rolls and the friend tofu triangles. Everything was cooked perfectly. I am excited to go back and try something new. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive too. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Amazing Thai food, great service, relaxing ambiance.
Great food owner was on site and extremely appreciative of our business.
Good is great. I prefer the appetizers and soups over the entrees personally.
Excellent food. Fresh and high quality ingredients.
Great find. Friendly staff. Delicious, fresh food prepared well. The Thom Kha coconut flavored soup was amazing. Best Thai restaurant I’ve tried in the Bradenton Sarasota area. Won’t hesitate to go back.
We drive from Palmetto to eat here all the time. The menu is large and we try to veer from our favorites to try new new dishes. Tonight we had vegetable Tom Yum soup filled with mushrooms and fresh tomatoes. My husband had a cashew stir fry and enjoyed every morsel. I also ate every bit of my Kha Prow noodles and will want them every time I eat here. Fresh, Fresh, very Fresh well prepared and flavorful food.
WE WERE 6. RESTAURANT NOT VERY EMPTY BUT VERY NICE LOOKING. THE OWNERS COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL AND ACCOMODATING. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND WE WILL RETURN WITH OTHERS.
Very tasty food. Lots to choose from. The crispy duck was delicious.
Would have given 5 stars for overall rating except for it location in a dreadfully rundown strip mall. Once inside Chang Kao it spotless and decorated attractively. I hope the strip owner makes some upgrades!
Enjoyed ! Fresh ingredients. Everything delicious. Will definitely go back.
Food 5 star, what a meal tonight. Try though we may, as often as we dine here, we always enjoy the Fresh Spring Roll, different from Vietnamese in that they are made with minced chicken instead of shrimp or pork. You can tell they are fresh made to order because the lettuce is always crispy and fresh and the rice paper wrapper is not gummy. Tonight m husband had the sweet and sour Crazy Wok shrimp and raved about it. I tried the Crispy Pork Pad Thai. Phenomenal and so delicious I ate the entire serving. If you know a dish Mee Krob, this Crispy Pad Thai is very similar, just not as sticky sweet. I loved it. Chang Kao was very busy when we arrived and by 8:30 the crowd was gone. Another good meal!
Food was excellent. Fresh ingredients and wonderful presentation. Ambiance is nice once you get past the fact that the restaurant is the only business in a mostly vacant shopping center next to an ABC liquor store. Owner was very friendly and service was good. Definitely one of our favorite Thai restaurants we have eaten at. We tend to be quite particular with Thai food having taken cooking classes in Bangkok and cook Thai frequently at home. Highly recommend.
As always, excellent food and service! Consistently tasty and authentic Thai food. Highly recommended!
The food and service was very good. I had the Amazing chicken and it lived up to its name!
Although different than expected, the food here is delicious and authentic. Food wasn’t overly spicy... even those dishes with 2 chilies noted beside item were milder than the norm. The richness of flavours mixed with a healthy amount of vegetables and choice of proteins was abundant. The cook and staff, too, are from Thailand!
Also noticed the numerous patrons picking up take-out! very popular! People come here for the quality of the food!
Great food, service and ambiance.
This place was a real find. The food was very good. The location may be off putting, but inside it is very nice. Our previous Thai favorites have lost their luster, and we were happy to find a new spot where the food is fresh and flavorful. We will be back to try other items from the extensive menu.
First visit to Chang Kao. Restaurant experience overall was very good. The restaurant is located in an old strip center on Hwy. 41. The restaurant is a bit old and dated, but it was clean. Menu had a great selection of choices. They offer wine, but didn't have a wine list. We had two appetizers and they were perfect! The entrees were very well made and had terrific flavors, vegetables cooked but crunchy, and just the right amount of spice and heat. The owner, Brian, was very attentive and very friendly. Our server was being trained and she was a bit tentative, but was pleasant. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
Three be of us ate dinner Friday night. Started with apps, satay, crispy spring rolls. Entrees were crispy duck pad Thai . Sweet and sour chicken, and beef pad Thai. Each bite had layers of flavors. What a foodies paradise. Husband and wife team. He runs the front of the house and her majic is in the kitchen. We are now regulars to to this establishment. I hope local foodies find this place it's a gem. The food quality and freshness of ingredients was premium quality. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you ,great dining experience
We are working seniors and seldom have a sit down lunch together. What a treat this afternoon to meet at Chang Kao and have a delicious lunch.
The owner was the server and he is always pleasant and polite. When he came to the table with soup and a crispy egg roll we questioned it and he said soup and spring roll automatically come with lunch. The soup today was egg drop, not one of my favorites and I ate the soup anyway. Without a doubt it turned my opinion on egg drop soup and it was so tasty that I will eat it again at Chang Kao.
My husband had Shrimp Cashew Nut. The shrimp were superior quality, not scrawny lower grade shrimp served in many Asian restaurants and his entire meal was brilliantly colored green and red bell peppers and sculpted carrots and onions. He just kept saying excellent. I had Kha Prow Perfect and perfect is the best word to describe this dish redolent with fresh basil. I loved it.
We have now eaten at this wonderful restaurant and have tried enough different things to eat. We recommend: Try Everything.
Outstanding authentic Thai food. Great service. This restaurant became out to go to place if we are in the mood for Thai food.
If you like clean, scratch-cooked Asian food and authentic Thai spices (mild or hot) - this is it!
Proprietor Brian has owned several restaurants and the chef (his wife Maew) is Thai.
Currently they serve wine and beers (including Singha 😉).
They participate in Grub Hub and Open Table (1000 point incentive now)...
Please give them a try. We want to keep them in the neighborhood 👍
I thought the food was really good. Had the Volcano duck. Outstanding. The pancake appetizer was also great. If you like Thai, go to Chang Kao. It's in a very small shopping strip next to ABC liquors on 41 (14th ST.). The prices were also very reasonable. You won't go broke for a really good meal.
I do not give out five stars easily but I have to say Chang Kao gets gets five stars easily based on the quality, freshness and great preparation of the food they serve. The shopping center that houses Chang Kao can easily put one off and leave you doubtful if you have come to the right place. Once you settle in and have an appetizer it won’t take long to realize the freshness of the food. We love the fresh spring rolls and Kano Jeeb. My pork Prik Khing was excellent, specially prepared one chili spicy. My husband enjoyed the Amazing chicken and said it was named correctly. Delicious food, well prepared.
Very good!..nice setting.. great service.....couldn't believe there weren't many diners....please give this place a try if you enjoy Thai
My third visit and each meal is tastier than the last.
My husband and I love Thai food so were excited when Chang Kao opened. The food did not disappoint and we will be returning soon. My husband started with the seaweed salad which was delicious. The seaweed was on a bed of lettuce. His entrée was a broccoli and chicken stirfry which was beautifully presented crisp and yummy. I ordered the tofu Himapan which had pineapple tomato and a fabulous sauce!
The owner was welcomingupon arrival and gracious when we left. Don’t miss this Thai treasure.
Food 5, FOOD 5, FOOD 5. Don’t let a shabby, not so appealing, old strip center turn you away. Once inside the doors of Chang Kao, the newness, cleanliness and freshness of the place will force your to stay. Yes, the two big screen monitors are a complete turn off but try and focus on the lovely multiple aquariums. The menu is extensive with Asian but mostly Thai selections. The Summer Rolls were delicious and different filled with cooked minced chicken and very fresh veggies. We might have liked a bit more fresh basil and cilantro but that is our taste and possibly not liked as well by other diners. We loved all the crushed peanuts on top of the Hoisin served with the Summer Rolls The Spring Rolls were delicious, not greasy like many restaurants, and they were rolled with great precision. I had a chicken basil fried rice that was chuck full of peppers and onions, the veggies cooked tender crisp. My husband had the Cashew Chicken and loved it so much that he overate. Portions are very generous.
Chang Kao was disappointingly not very busy given the quality of the food but then again it was a Monday evening. Once word gets out about this restaurant it will be Season and hopefully (not to us locals) it will be swamped. Absolutely delicious food.
Outstanding Thai food in a very nice restaurant.
Outstanding, flavorful Thai
Authentic Thai food in a cozy and clean restaurant, what else do you need? Loved the Thai music in the background.
Outstanding Thai...great service, fast, fresh food....
