We had a perfect evening at Chandler's for my birthday. Because it was Wednesday, we had no trouble getting a table in front of the window. Wine, food, desserts, everything was beautifully presented and delicious. The dining room and the view were lovely. Service was charming if a bit slow. But we were in no hurry, and enjoyed the leisurely evening. Loved it!
The 20% imposed service charge probably makes sense but in practice it no doubt is the reason the service was so poor. The our waiter seemed to have zero incentive to be attentive and responsive. The food was excellent but the service was as poor as it gets. Our table wasn’t bussed. We had to track someone down to clear our table. We had to ask several times for our waiter to come to our table. When we finally got our check we couldn’t find our waiter again and after 15 minutes finally gave up and took the check to the front desk and asked to have someone run the payment. Unfortunately there was no way to reward superior service at Chandlers nor, as in this case, “appropriately” tip for the poor, inattentive and generally inferior service we received. With an imposed standard service charge restaurant management really needs to ensure a high standard of service by the waitstaff since their compensation performance is not directly (if at all) tied to the quality of service they provide.
Notwithstanding the following, I enjoyed our evening at Chandler's. There were a few notable shortcomings. The Caesar's salad was decidedly average, dominated by white or yellow ribs of the romaine leaves. I was also surprised that the Dungeness crab was served without bread. A trifling point and not even noticed until the crab was almost gone and too late to order bread on the side. Still, a little disappointing.
I can't state the negative without mentioning the courtesy of our waiter. Enjoying our evening, we lingered a long time over our drinks and then over appetizers. He was extremely patient, polite and attentive without intruding. On top of that, my Bombay gin martini and, particularly, my companion's Citrus Martini were fabulous.
On balance, I am ready to chalk up what look like minor issues above as aberrations and, like always, I will recommend Chandler's Crabhouse to anyone looking for a special dinner experience.
The food portions were small. I ordered the fillet and lobster and the lobster was the size of a prawn. The service was kind of slow. I noticed that they included a 20% gratuity on our meal, yet I didn't feel that the service deserved a full 20%. The view was great, but for the cost I was not impressed with the menu.
The food was amazing. We had the crab and shrimp Louie as well as the crab-stuffed salmon. Both were fantastic. The view of Lake Union is beautiful - I imagine it's even nicer in the afternoon. The staff are accommodating (we had a $100 gift card and didn't want to go over) and very friendly.
The food was good and the location had a good view. I highly recommend trying the whisky crab soup. The service left more to be desired. I expected better service given the required 20% gratuity. Our waters were not refilled without asking during our dining experience and our waiter was not very attentive.
My wife and I had purchased gift cards from Costco. When we paid for the bill partially with the gift cards, I found that my debit card was still charged the full amount after we left. I returned and the manager talked to the waiter and sent him back to talk to me. The waiter assured me that the error will be corrected the next day. The manager never followed up with me.
We were celebrating an anniversary and our Valentiene's Day. Everything was perfect!
There’s only one place in Seattle to go for king crab!
For the price I would have expected better service and tastier food. The portion size was good. The service was fine but not exceptional. The food didn't taste any better than other places that cost half as much.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. We come here for date nights, Birthdays, when family comes to town, business dinners and any other time we’re downtown. The food is always fabulous, the staff is very attentive and it’s just always an enjoyable experience. We will goo back for sure and have recommended Chandler’s to many others. Keep up the great work!
Nice place food was good however for the price the portion was very small.
Although it was wonderful, we found out that Chandler's Crabhouse will be closing their doors for good sometime in September 2018. Paul Allen will be taking over the cove and put in more buildings. Daniel's Lake Union will also be gone but will reopen at the Hyatt Hotel. So sad to see Chandler's Crabhouse closing after 30 years!!
The service was outstanding and the food was fantastic.
My wife and I went to Chandlers to celebrate our anniversary and we were treated to an outstanding meal with impeccable, attentive service. We will return and I recommend it to everyone looking for a great dining experience
The clam chowder was one of the best that I've ever had. I was disappointed with the crab mac and cheese that I ordered. I couldn't find any crab pieces. Usually when I order this meal at other restaurants there are pieces of crab on top of the mac and cheese.
Enjoyable meal with personable and helpful service.
All of the staff were very courtious and professional. Our server Maria was excellent, and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Food was absolutely delicious and the restaurant was beautiful. Food was pricy but definitely worth it.
Chandler's Crabhouse is famous for their crab cakes and they deserve that reputation. Their 1/2 lb Dungeness Crab Cake is truly the best. We split one and each had a salad, and it was plenty! The ambiance and service was very nice, and we enjoyed our meal there. Great spot right on Lake Union -- get a view table. It's fun to check out the yachts.
I've never been disappointed with Chandler's. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I was shocked at the prices this time. In addition to the overpriced food, they now charge you 20% extra on top of the bill. And that doesn't include the tip. I don't know if that's how they roll in all of Seattle nowadays, but at those prices I can't afford to go back anytime soon. 3 people with 1 drink (1 pop, 1 lemonade, 1 cocktail) each and the bill was over 3 C notes. The food was great and the service fair - the waiter said they were short staffed on a Saturday night. I like the restaurant, just can't afford it.
Amazing as always. The view of the water is so comforting. Tasting the fresh seafood with superb service is nothing short of perfection!
