Champignon Ratings and Reviews
Very reasonable prix-fixe, but not a lot of menu choices. Service was pleasant, but took forever to get cocktails. Went with two girlfriends to catch up after a few months. Room is decent, décor not memorable. Actual food was better than surroundings. Nice entrée of salmon with veggies. Would consider returning if I were in the area again.
Very loud and tables extremely close to one another which made it difficult to get in and out and impossible to have a private conversation. Food was tasty. Forget desert! Service was poor and uninterested in pleasing. It is convenient to Irish Reperatory Theater . Prices were good for NYC. The published menu lists many items which were not available.
chose place since it was close to an event for quick drink and light dinner.
at 6pm they charged regular prices for happy hour draft beers (happy hour till 7) even though we confirmed it was happy hour when we sat down. the 5 dollar difference is not a huge deal but added up after the strange experience. one waiter seemed stoned/sleepy, had no idea what time it was. different people waited on us, so we had no idea who our waiter was. service slow. very slow. distracted staff. there was only one other seated table in whole place, so there must have been some other distraction. strange dance/techno music played real loud in a nearly empty place, horrible. place smelled sour, like an old trash can. when time to close the bill, they held credit card for 20 mins. it was sitting out on table while staff were in the back(?) out of sight. inconsiderate, aloof. ugh. we will not go back. plenty of other nice places in same block and adjacent blocks.
Nice little restaurant right on 7th Ave. They have a small outdoor sitting area and a couple of tables in the floor to ceiling windows facing 7th ave. Both of these are great for people watching. The menu had some great combinations of flavors. Would be a nice place to go, relax a bit, and people watch.
What a disappointment! I made a reservation for 10.15 last Sunday, and was told the restaurant was closed. Noting the Open Table app was indeed open on the computer, the man just shrugged his shoulders.
I was charging my phone at my hotel, so could not even search around for another open table site.
Since my telly was sent to the restaurant, common courtesy would dictate they phone me, at the least.
One of the worst dining experiences I ever encountered in NYC. The service was not only bad, it was non-existent. The food is less than average and the prices are disproportionate to the quality of the food. The ambiance is that of a storefront joint. Nothing positive to say about this terrible restaurant.
Great little find near our hotel! The bar man was pleasant, the server was patient and polite. It's a small place so very cozy. Biggest thing with me is noise and there was none as not too many people there late on a Sunday. My duck was very good and the hummus to start was great. Price is very reasonable..., give this place a try!
Was very disappointed in the ambiance because it sounded like a nice french restaurant. My wife and i had a delicious burger that came with good fries . The burger was cooked perfectly and it came on a nice soft bun. The chairs were very uncomfortable and old looking. The service was just fair.
We went for brunch because it was close to someone's hotel that was visiting me in the city. Food was pretty good. I had steak and eggs and both of those were great. Potatoes were not fantastic and not a lot of them, but the prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. Its great for broke girls like me on a budget.
I went there on a Tuesday evening with my husband and sat at the bar waiting for a table to open up. The bartender asked what I wanted "Pinot Noir", to that he rolled his eyes and walked away. A few minutes later he slammed a glass down and poured me sub-par wine. Another person walked in asked for a table and the waiter ran around trying to find her a spot and moving tables around. The other waiter told him I was waiting first and after he glanced my way he continued on his pursuit to find her a table. He then walked back to the waiter who was standing next to me and said in Spanish "she's at her a table, give her whatever she wants", little did he know, I am fluent. I sat and waited...and waited....and waited. Finally we were seated...and waited....and waited....there were two waiters there after about 20 minutes one came to me and said "your food will be right out" to that I said "how we didn't even get menus". He then laughed, brought us menus, we ordered immediately for fear it would take hours. We ordered the hummus and grilled octopus, both OK. We waited...and waited...and waited for about 40 minutes then the waiter came out saying "so sorry i'll have to take off an item from your check". Once we finished eating we asked for the check and just as we thought that took forever.
Unfortunately I went under the assumption this place was going to be amazing, the bartender was rude begging to be allowed to go downstairs or leave, the waiters were nice, but clearly drowning in the tables they were manning and all I heard around me was "wheres my food" or "you forgot my fries" so clearly I wasn't the only one who felt this way.
We left, unsatisfied, angry, and with nothing taken off our bill. Seriously the only good thing about this place is that it's outside. Real shame.
I had been to Cafe Champignon for a Friday night dinner and it was wonderful, but I am sorry now that I returned for a holiday lunch with a friend from out of town. Our entrees (one salad, one sandwich) were fine, but our dessert was frozen solid when served--inedible.
I cannot say enough about the Manager (sorry, I don't recall her name!). She was so sweet and accommodating. As they were unable to take us for dinner New Year's Eve, she made brunch extra special New Year's Day. The Salmon Benedict and regular Eggs Benedict were outstanding as was the Bloody Mary. I plan to visit frequently!
Had a early dinner pre theater so restaurant not too busy when we arrived. Service was attentive. We shared a very generous and tasty salad and split the duck entree. Duck was prepared perfectly. They were getting busy as we were finishing but noise level was not bad so we were able to have a normal conversation. We always have a good meal when we are at this very nice neighborhood place.
Excellent bar service and great mixed drinks. Friendly, tall, bartender remembered us from our first visit more than a month ago! Unfortunately, complete opposite experience inside restaurant for dinner. The wait service was very slow and unconcerned. Bizarre since the restaurant had very few customers when we dined at 6:00p on a Friday (11/14). It seemed like the wait staff was purposely ignoring us from start to finish. Our party of 4 agreed that the food was very good all-around.
Nice little outdoor dining area but our experience was dampened by the lack of service and the extremely long wait it took to get anything. It's great if you want to sit around outside for a 90 minute brunch but we were hoping for quicker service as we didn't have the luxury of endless time. It seemed ike there were only 2 waiters for close to 50 patrons. It seems like a lot of people were coming in to pick up brunch orders they had called-in, which might be the way to go.
continually visit this great local hang for whatever you're in the mood for; don't need the clock to tell you when you're feeling like breakfast or lunch food, cocktails, or to chill out. love the range of choices on the menu, and the quality is spot on. friendly staff add to a charming environment that takes the edge off anything the city may be dishing on you. gets crazy crowded during typical brunch times; otherwise and esp. the off hours are when at its best.
We had quick dinner at the Cafe Champignon. The ambience of the place is a bit understated but inviting nevertheless. Unfortunately, it was raining, so we couldn't have enjoyed the outside seating, and that kind of set the mood for the whole dinner. The food was OK, good OK, but nothing that would stick out as amazing. The service and drinks were great.
