Do yourself a favor, dine somewhere else. The food is ok, not great and priced higher than the quality would normally dictate.
One of our pasta dishes had a long metal shard in it. The restaurant refunded that dish, and mistakes happen, but that lack of quality control makes you wonder.
The service wasn’t great, rarely saw our server even though it wasn’t very busy at the time.
Loved this restaurant. Visiting from out-of-town, and it was conveniently located near a bridal salon where my group of 5 was shopping. It has a very warm, cozy atmosphere. We were celebrating my daughter's engagement and our waiter, Dexter, was a delight - very friendly and accommodating! Food was delicious and quite affordable. We will definitely be coming back on our next NYC trip!
Everything perfect... Great, cozy atmosphere, flavorful food, and excellent service. Thoroughly enjoyed our now 3rd visit. Dexter, our server, is always attentive, genuine, and makes us feel special. All of the staff is friendly and courteous. This restaurant is a great find and little neighborhood gem. The salmon is my favorite dish, but the steak frites are a close second... The cheese plate is a great starter. Plenty of comfort food as well, with the mac & cheese and truffle fries among our favorites. Very good wine list and beer selections too. All in all, they strike a good balance with affordable dining and excellent dishes.
Decent brunch menu. Good value.
Very nice food, great service.
A bit run down looking but would
We were excited to gather together as a group and chose Chapignon based on it's location and fair pricing. The servers who greeted and served us were warm and welcoming. However, other than their kindness, we were disappointed in the service. We waited about 1.5 hours for our meal to be served. The reason for the delay was never explained to us though we asked several times what was happening in the kitchen. They took the beverages off our bill and offered us a bottle of wine, and while we appreciated their efforts, the gesture did not match our frustration with the experience.
We have visited Champignon on a number of occasions and never come away disappointed. The atmosphere is pleasant, the food excellent, and the service superb. We had dinner early New Year's Eve, and the staff could not have been more inviting or helpful. Well done!
Excellent food and service. We both had the duck. Happy hour wine is a very good deal. Noise levrl is low so it is a nice restaurant to have a conversation.
We loved our waiter who ended up singing 80s songs with us late into the night!
Food was lovely, staff helpful and friendly. Wine was very good.
He duck breast was delicious as was the salmon. Always a nice time here and we come back often because of the airline rewards and nice food. Our friends love it too
The service and wine were very good. The turkey burger was okay. The acoustics in the restaurant are terrible. If there's a large group nearby the noise is deafening. Next time I'll sit outside.
Wonderful meal. Great service. Affordable prices. Brought the family. We all loved it.
Nice cosy place with a good selection of wines and drinks. Good for preparty drinks and dinner.
Great food, service and a very convenient location. The price fixe is a good value!
Very reasonable prix-fixe, but not a lot of menu choices. Service was pleasant, but took forever to get cocktails. Went with two girlfriends to catch up after a few months. Room is decent, décor not memorable. Actual food was better than surroundings. Nice entrée of salmon with veggies. Would consider returning if I were in the area again.
Amazing ravioli. Outstanding octopus and chick peas. And we were there early enough to take advantage of happy hour. Very pleasant pre-theatre meal.
Very loud and tables extremely close to one another which made it difficult to get in and out and impossible to have a private conversation. Food was tasty. Forget desert! Service was poor and uninterested in pleasing. It is convenient to Irish Reperatory Theater . Prices were good for NYC. The published menu lists many items which were not available.
chose place since it was close to an event for quick drink and light dinner.
at 6pm they charged regular prices for happy hour draft beers (happy hour till 7) even though we confirmed it was happy hour when we sat down. the 5 dollar difference is not a huge deal but added up after the strange experience. one waiter seemed stoned/sleepy, had no idea what time it was. different people waited on us, so we had no idea who our waiter was. service slow. very slow. distracted staff. there was only one other seated table in whole place, so there must have been some other distraction. strange dance/techno music played real loud in a nearly empty place, horrible. place smelled sour, like an old trash can. when time to close the bill, they held credit card for 20 mins. it was sitting out on table while staff were in the back(?) out of sight. inconsiderate, aloof. ugh. we will not go back. plenty of other nice places in same block and adjacent blocks.
Nice little restaurant right on 7th Ave. They have a small outdoor sitting area and a couple of tables in the floor to ceiling windows facing 7th ave. Both of these are great for people watching. The menu had some great combinations of flavors. Would be a nice place to go, relax a bit, and people watch.
Soooo noisy, I could not hear my companion! Very unpleasant. Ordered brunch. It came with 1 slice of toast. $2 extra for egg whites. Overpriced for that option. I won't go back.
What a disappointment! I made a reservation for 10.15 last Sunday, and was told the restaurant was closed. Noting the Open Table app was indeed open on the computer, the man just shrugged his shoulders.
I was charging my phone at my hotel, so could not even search around for another open table site.
Since my telly was sent to the restaurant, common courtesy would dictate they phone me, at the least.
Staff was fantastic. Very friendly and engaging. Always checking to see what we needed. We had a group of 8 and we were all taken care of very well.
One of the worst dining experiences I ever encountered in NYC. The service was not only bad, it was non-existent. The food is less than average and the prices are disproportionate to the quality of the food. The ambiance is that of a storefront joint. Nothing positive to say about this terrible restaurant.
We waited 20 minutes to get a glass of water! The restaurant was filled with only one server! We ordered a glass of wine. It never came! We walked out.
Went for brunch. It was just ok. Prices are more than reasonable and there is a wide variety to choose from. One example of why just ok. I had eggs, toast & potatoes. But they only served one piece of toast. Really?
Great little find near our hotel! The bar man was pleasant, the server was patient and polite. It's a small place so very cozy. Biggest thing with me is noise and there was none as not too many people there late on a Sunday. My duck was very good and the hummus to start was great. Price is very reasonable..., give this place a try!
Was very disappointed in the ambiance because it sounded like a nice french restaurant. My wife and i had a delicious burger that came with good fries . The burger was cooked perfectly and it came on a nice soft bun. The chairs were very uncomfortable and old looking. The service was just fair.
We went for brunch because it was close to someone's hotel that was visiting me in the city. Food was pretty good. I had steak and eggs and both of those were great. Potatoes were not fantastic and not a lot of them, but the prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. Its great for broke girls like me on a budget.
Great place to eat brunch outside and people-watch!
I went there on a Tuesday evening with my husband and sat at the bar waiting for a table to open up. The bartender asked what I wanted "Pinot Noir", to that he rolled his eyes and walked away. A few minutes later he slammed a glass down and poured me sub-par wine. Another person walked in asked for a table and the waiter ran around trying to find her a spot and moving tables around. The other waiter told him I was waiting first and after he glanced my way he continued on his pursuit to find her a table. He then walked back to the waiter who was standing next to me and said in Spanish "she's at her a table, give her whatever she wants", little did he know, I am fluent. I sat and waited...and waited....and waited. Finally we were seated...and waited....and waited....there were two waiters there after about 20 minutes one came to me and said "your food will be right out" to that I said "how we didn't even get menus". He then laughed, brought us menus, we ordered immediately for fear it would take hours. We ordered the hummus and grilled octopus, both OK. We waited...and waited...and waited for about 40 minutes then the waiter came out saying "so sorry i'll have to take off an item from your check". Once we finished eating we asked for the check and just as we thought that took forever.
Unfortunately I went under the assumption this place was going to be amazing, the bartender was rude begging to be allowed to go downstairs or leave, the waiters were nice, but clearly drowning in the tables they were manning and all I heard around me was "wheres my food" or "you forgot my fries" so clearly I wasn't the only one who felt this way.
We left, unsatisfied, angry, and with nothing taken off our bill. Seriously the only good thing about this place is that it's outside. Real shame.
My boyfriend lives down the street. We eat here at least 3 to 4 times a month. It's always good, never loud, and you can easily get a table for 6-8 if you need. The service is always amazing.
Mediocre to subpar food, service, and ambiance. A bit cramped. Reasonably priced. Overall - Not recommended.
Neighborhoody little French joint. Decent menu - the hangar steak was delicious and the sancere crisp. Also, the price was right. Would totally go back.
I had been to Cafe Champignon for a Friday night dinner and it was wonderful, but I am sorry now that I returned for a holiday lunch with a friend from out of town. Our entrees (one salad, one sandwich) were fine, but our dessert was frozen solid when served--inedible.
Each of the 7 people in my parter ordered something different to eat and all raved at the freshness, taste and quality!
The food here is consistently good. We had the burger and chicken club. Both were excellent. Service was good and not rushed, even on a busy Saturday.
I cannot say enough about the Manager (sorry, I don't recall her name!). She was so sweet and accommodating. As they were unable to take us for dinner New Year's Eve, she made brunch extra special New Year's Day. The Salmon Benedict and regular Eggs Benedict were outstanding as was the Bloody Mary. I plan to visit frequently!
Had a early dinner pre theater so restaurant not too busy when we arrived. Service was attentive. We shared a very generous and tasty salad and split the duck entree. Duck was prepared perfectly. They were getting busy as we were finishing but noise level was not bad so we were able to have a normal conversation. We always have a good meal when we are at this very nice neighborhood place.
