I love Cesca. Had a great meal there two weeks ago but my meal on Sunday was mediocre. The food - we had the Lobster Feast got $49 each - was just okay. Baked potato served without butter or sour cream. My friend asked for sour cream and was told that there was none in the restaurant. That seems okay but the potato was tasteless without anything on it and the half ear of corn was as well. The real problem was the surley waiter. This is a place that normally has impeccable seevice but this was like being on Candid Camera. He wasn't just rude to us, he was awful to the tables around us as well. Between the so/so food and the terrible waiter, I'm not sure I'll be back.
Pasta was cooked correctly, not soggy. Fried calamari was too greasy. Waiter was not attentive. No tablecloths.
We went before a show at the Beacon. Place filled up quickly. Service was very good and timely. Lagged a little bit with the drinks and dessert but overall we got in and out in plenty of time. They must have an issue with their AC though because it was very warm and they had standing fans blowing throughout the restaurant so that is the ambiance stars noted above. . Definitely added this place to our list of places to go to. Really liked it overall
We went with a Travelzoo voucher...great value. Would definitely go again.
We were looking for a place by the hotel Beacon on the upper west side. Found Cesca, checked out the reviews.
Everything was wonderful. Friendly hardworking staff. Food was delicious and reasonable for nyc
Everything was as I would have wanted it to be: a superb (and complimentary, for my birthday and because I’m a member of their “ club”) bottle of Tuscan wine, excellent food (I had frito misto and a very fine cod special), professional and intelligent service and a warm but elegant atmosphere. My only suggestion is that the ice water be kept icy; ours was tepid, but the busboy immediately brought ice when asked.
Wonderful dining experience. The food was superb. Salad was crisp and delicious with a fantastic cheese topping. Steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. Sides were large portions and enough to share. Save room for the panna cotta! OMG....
Service and food was great. Enjoyed very much.
There was a plastic material in one of the chicken meals. They insisted to replace it and we ordered a ravioli and we got charged for this! Also, the service was very slow. We had to wait too long just to get water!
'Cesca has been in the neighborhood for several years and was recently renovated under new management. This was my second dinner since the change. I like the space - it's open without being raucous, classic and contemporary in feeling. The dining room was only half-full on a Monday evening and I was able to hear my partner talk and enjoy our conversation. We asked to taste a wine before ordering a carafe, and when we didn't like it and asked for another, the server asked us to finish the first wine we'd tasted, then poured the second wine in the same glass. I would do that at home, but in a fine restaurant I expect fresh glasses. Freshly grilled and crunchy bread was drizzled with olive oil and herbs and served while we ordered. I tried to resist but it looked and tasted too good. Marinated artichoke hearts were beautifully plated, looking like three pale roses, tender and well-paired with cheese. On the other hand, a small $15 salad of arugula and heirloom tomatoes was carelessly presented, with no taste of dressing, and the few grape tomatoes on the plate looked and tasted as if they came from the grocery store around the corner. I don't eat pasta so I asked if the meatball special could be served over vegetables instead. The chef made a special effort and I was served three very tasty polpette with a light tomato sauce over mixed chopped vegetables - it was a very much appreciated combination. My partner's salmon was cooked exactly as requested. Overall, I was pleased to dine at 'Cesca, but a little more attention to the service would be warranted.
We were seated in the front of the restaurant which was not the main dining room and it was very hard to interact with our server. We were there on the later side and it was not crowded so that was a poor choice by the host. Also, they removed many great items from their menu- kind of disappointing visit
Had a wonderful time at 'Cesca for brunch. The music was lively and upbeat, the decor was beautiful! The service was great - we had a very friendly waiter whose name I never got be he made sure we were well taken care of. My husband enjoyed his steak and egg combo while I welcomed a fresh summer salad full of goodies! The cheese and nut combination hit the spot and I was pleased that I could order shrimp with it as well - they were HUGE! All around great meal and time!
I really liked the relaxed feel of this place as well as the warm and helpful staff. The menu items were delicious and I definitely plan on returning to try more dishes. The artichoke heart appetizer was wonderful ! Service was well-timed and friendly, this venue is a hidden gem on the upper Westside ! ...I highly recommend it !
I went to dinner with friends, hoping that the restaurant would be relatively quiet. It was not. However, the food was good and reasonably priced, especially the prix-fix menu, which was offered long after the 6:45 cut-off. Additionally, the restaurant was pleasant in appearance, and the service was good.
The service was very good. We went early so it wasn't crowded yet but did fill up as the night progressed.
The service was so bad that it was the first time in my life that I didn’t leave even a penny for a tip. It was fortunate for Cesca that my dinner guest and I had much to talk about because we sat for THIRTY MINUTES before a waiter asked if we wanted a drink. The bus boy fortunately had filled our water glasses. I admit that my scallop entree was very good. But still the waiter paid no attention to us; I had to run after him just to get the check. Not going back anytime soon!
My third time to Cesca pre events at the Beacon. They're accommodating, and have very quick service. The food (tuna, artichokes, risotto) was all fabulous and the wine choices excellent. A winner!
Good pre show menu
Service was average to lacking. Food was very disappointing. Soup tasteless, steak ordered well done, brought to the table rare. Pasta undercooked. Extremely disappointing.
Wonderful dining experience, from A-Z. A tip. Request seating in the back for a more quiet dinner.
The current menu is not as interesting as previous ones.
Allowed a dog in the restaurant during dinner. Please
We went for brunch. The omelettes were OK, but nothing to rave about and the potatoes were overcooked. The bartender was not in so that the waiter prepared the bloody Mary. He went overboard with horseradish and put an olive in it instead of celery. Not memorable. My bloody Marys are much better.
Great restaurant, they also have a theater menu well priced and good selection. Wines by the glass were very good. Would definitely recommend and will return
The fried cauliflower is the best I’ve ever had. The only negative is that it’s a bit pricey for the neighborhood.
The burrata appetizer, which I ordered without the Parma ham, was really delicious, as was the spinach ravioli. The grilled bread that came before the meal, which I used with the burrata was also excellent. The wine list wasn’t huge but it was very good.
The service was also good, and I would definitely recommend this place.
We haven’t been to Cesca for a while & forgot how terrific it is. Fantastic food starting with the home made grilled bread. Great tasting unique dishes and wonderful food presentation. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and even the chef came by to ask how everything tasted. We’ll be coming back more often.
Interesting Italian, more imaginative that most.
Service has been better
Wonderful dinner this weekend! We celebrated a friend’s 40th and had a WONDERFUL time!
Everything was top-notch at 'Cesca: interior design, atmosphere, service and food.
Restaurant seemed understaffed. Our waiter refused to ask the chef he we could have a pasta dish made without broccoli rabe (if it’s freshly made, why would it be an issue?). The table was wobbly and it took 2 attempts to fix it... food was just ok... some of it under seasoned. Definitely will not be going back.
I love this place! Pleasant environment, excellent service, the food is amazing with great wine selection and very friendly hosts. Oh the desserts are out of this world! Try the chocolate log and the cheesecake! Definitely one of the best -if not the best- restaurant at upper west side. Would absolutely recommend!
Did not stay long this time, just a quick early dinner, but I will definitely come back for more. Cozy atmosphere, great wine list and everything I tasted was cooked with premium fresh materials and to perfection. Exquisite fresh branzino grilled the Mediterranean way with al dente perfectly simmered side vegetables and a mouth melting baby octopus for a starter. Always with top tasting olive oil and bread.
Very reasonably priced, you are in Upper West side after all, and friendly and accurate waiting. I strongly recommend it
Would definitely recommend! From beginning to end...
We had a very disappointing dinner. There were at least two items on the menu which were not available, and when we were given the dessert menu, again, items were not available. Considering that this is not a restaurant with a huge menu, it was surprising, to say the least. Then, when we asked for biscotti with our coffee, we were told there were none! This is an Italian restaurant -- one would at least expect biscotti!
The service was just OK. At the end we had great difficulty finding someone to give us the check. Overall, a pity, because the room is lovely.
Pre theatre dinner, 1/2 block to beacon theatre. Nice pre theatre dinner selection. Same food that is on regular menu. Everything was excellent.
Great ambiance at the bar. Food is reasonably priced and good but drinks can get a bit expensive.
The service was very poor. Our server stopped serving us after our entrees came only to speak to her coworkers and use the computer. We had to ask a busboy for boxes for our food and for the dessert menu, which did not materialize into anything because most of the dessert items were out of stock.
