'Cesca Ratings and Reviews
You must visit if you are anywhere near the upper west. The food at 'Cesca takes fine dining to a new level of delicious. The service and atmosphere set the perfect mood, although I suggest sitting in the dining room if you're looking for less commotion. It was wonderful!
I'm not sure what's been going on over at 'Cesca, but during our last visit we couldn't get enough of the food, and the models! It was a great vibe both at the bar and in the dining room. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the drinks were just what the doctor ordered - the doctor being me. Ha!
My reservation was not easily found. The bus person was on his first day of work, the waiter on his 5th day. The service was poor. Had to ask for bread 4 times. The food was just okay and expensive. The wine pour was not anywhere near generous. From the beginning of the meal I thought that there must have been a recent change in ownership.
A neighborhood gem on the UWS - not too far from Lincoln Center and worth the distance for a great and interesting meal. Portions are large and well presented. We had all appetizers - a full meal by ordering 3-4 varied appetizers - hot and cold. A great way to get a taste of different dishes. Main courses looked great - would definitely do that next time. Great for a group of people who could share the appetizers. Very busy and noisy but fun
This place is a real find for the UWS. While there you must try their homemade pastas! They are cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the mushroom ravioli and steak that we were served. The service was sometimes slow but this can be expected as this places has been busy every visit! Drinks and dessert were delish!
We chose this restaurant for it's proximity to the Beacon Theater on a Sunday night. It was very crowded and they seemed to be understaffed. Our poor waitress was literally running around and we did not see her for extended periods of time. When she stopped by, she was very rushed, making the experience a bit stressful. The food was very good but also very overpriced ($32 for a small plate of pasta??) It was fine but I wouldn't go back.
Damn! This place is on fire! It was so busy we couldn't believe it! We had to wait for our table but the bar was a great place to hang out! Good music, good drinks! When we sat the waiter was there within a few minutes and gave us the specials - there's definitely something going on in the kitchen because there were so many to choose from! The food was out of this world! We can't wait to go back and will probably be there for Thanksgiving! Good job 'Cesca!
The food was great! We had to wait a few minutes at the bar, even with a reservation but it was ok! The bartender has a heavy hand making the drinks that much more enjoyable. The appetizers were delivered quickly and were devoured almost immediately which was ok too - our food was not far behind! The pasta was al dente and absolutely amazing! We couldn't get enough! Mushroom Ravioli, Bolognese, Linguini with Clams all perfect. Tiramisu totally set us over the edge - it was great! Service was good. We go back again!
Can you say Mushrooms? This was an absolutely fantastic experience. The mushroom soup was out of this world and the perfect start to our meal. Kudos to the chef! The halibut and steak were cooked perfectly and could not be seasoned any better. The dessert selection was delicious - we enjoyed the panna cotta and royal chocolate log. This was truly a fine dining experience. You must try if you're on the UWS!
Have been eating here since it opened, and it has undergone an unwelcome change. From not being able to get coat checks despite being already seated and asking three times (until one of us actually went to the coat closet), to changes in waitstaff mid meal, to an item being forgotten from our order, to the bread basket staying on our table until the very end, to LOUD music added to the increased number of patrons creating a din making it impossible to speak to one's table mate without shouting, finally, to totally undistinguished food, bland and lacking in imagination and flavor. This used to be a place where grown ups could go for decent, if not remarkable, food and have a pleasant evening. The atmosphere has become assaultive due to the noise, crowding, and staff seeming to run around, not quite knowing what they are doing.
It was very loud. Service and food must have been off tonight- 4 tables around me had something wrong. We ordered the mushroom soup special - that was good. Then we ordered the clam linguine. . It had no flavor at all. Noodles were al dente but The pepper was overpowering and there was no flavor. After dinner we ordered a cheesecake. That was pretty good. We asked for an amaretto sour. They were out of amaretto and then they were out of the port we selected. Grade: B
First impressions were terrific. Loved the bar, the music, the ambience. Classic NY in a contemporary setting. The hard liquor drinks were excellent. But my wine was confusing. I ordered a glass of the only chardonnay on the wine list. It tasted like Sauvignon Blanc. But the bartender said no, it was chardonnay. Oddly (ahem) when I ordered another glass at dinner, it tasted completely different. Like chardonnay.
The bar menu grilled shrimp and calamari appetizer was tasty.
The dining room is large, with tables well-spaced and even some booths. Elegant.
Their website says they have a prix fixe theatre menu -- but apparently they stopped doing that. We were dismayed as 'Cesca is very expensive otherwise.
The mushroom soup and the mixed greens salad were both delicious.
But then, the entrees. Our guest sent his Pork Porterhouse back, saying it was like cardboard. A 2nd one was brought to the table and was better. I had linguine with clams. Terrible. First of all, it wasn't linguine but a thick spaghetti - like bigoli. Secondly, it was very overcooked. Thirdly, there was no discernible sauce on it. So it was thick, tasteless, mushy and slimy.
Now - I had asked that the pepperoncini be removed. Perhaps the pepperoncini is in the sauce? So they simply didn't put any other sauce on the pasta? I don't know. All I do know is that I literally couldn't eat it. Instead, after dinner, I ordered the appetizer artisanal cheeses. Another ghastly mistake. Two were overly spicy, one was inedible. I made do with the 4th.
My husband's NY steak was, he said, very good. So were his sides: mushrooms and spinach. I had half his spinach and agree.
The bill, for 3 people, came to $240 before tip. Only 3 drinks and no dessert except for my cheese plate. I don't mind expensive restaurants, but when I pay that much I expect the food to be great.
Bottom line: we might stop in another time for a drink. But we'll never have dinner there again.
The food at this place has really taken a turn for the better. The plate presentation and flavors are wonderful! We enjoyed our fish (salmon and Bronzino) and the salad were quite refreshing (Kale and Beet salads), cappuccino and earl grey tea was the perfect pairing with the pumpkin cannoli and cheesecake. The bottle of white suggested enhanced the dinner. All in all a fantastic experience.
Great place to go on a date. We weren't rushed, the staff was courteous and cautious. They timed their table visits well and were quick with their visits. Had amazing warm bread with evoo to dip, steak and ravioli after the butternut squash soup and finished it off with a panna cotta and apple crisp. All top notch. The upper west side finally has a decent spot to eat!
Yes, yes, yes! FINALLY fine Italian dining done right. The new look and improved kitchen are amazing. The service, drinks and food - top, top, top! You must try the scallops! Holy, holy... The list of wines could take you a while unless you know what you're looking for. Martinis are the way to go! Crisp, cool and refreshing! And dessert? Chocolate lovers dream - Royal log. OMG and then some.
Was celebrating a birthday. Put that in the notes and called the day of to remind them to bring a dessert with a candle and they still didn’t. Ordered drinks which came after our appetizers. Also ordered a bottle of wine which came after our main meal. Overall was not great service. Wouldn’t do another dinner here anytime soon.
Place has great steak and fish selection. Very fresh. Cooked to perfection. Enjoyed the med rare with a nice char from their grill. I was watching them. Not much of a sweet tooth at all but their tiramisu was very good. Service was good overall for being very busy.
What a magnificent restaurant on the UWS! My husband and I enjoyed our meals and were pleased with the attentive and courteous service. It was quite amusing watching the whose who dine around us. Everyone seemed to be very happy and enjoying their food. We will gladly visit again soon. Our new UWS spot.
What a fabulous experience. Stumbled upon this little gem before our show at the Beacon. WOW, WOW, WOW! Delicious food, fantastic service, great vibe. Worth the trip uptown!! You must try the Fritti! The fish was DELICIOUS and the Tagliatelle was a home run! Cheesecake was creamy and cold - just the way it should be! Love love love you 'Cesca!
Came in with my buddy for a quick bite. Beer selection was superb. Bar vibe was great - it was packed. The apps we ordered were really good - the oysters were cold and fresh. The butternut squash soup hit the spot. Steaks and pasta left us full but there was room for dessert and that was a score. Service good, waitress cute and attentive.
Right on! My girlfriend thinks I'm a genius for finding this place! It's been around for years but something cool has happened. The place is more hip, yet still offers the same menu that favors Italian flavor...and it's all good! The music was great, the service was spectacular and the food was stellar. Steak + Oysters = AMAZING. You don't want to miss this place if you're on the Upper West.
Service was a complete disaster. Ignored for far too long once seated. Waiter would disappear for very long intervals. At times, the dinning room has no staff visible to help customers. Ordered a bottle of wine that never arrived. When we asked for bill, the waiter realized he forgot and asked if we wanted it then. Food was good but service detracted horribly from the experience.
Somewhat disappointed this time. Service was so-so. Had to flag someone down for water. Martini was not chilled at all, I needed to add ice cubes. Brussels sprouts were pathetically small and super fried. Salads are boring and my wild salmon was underwhelming with little flavor.
Place was mobbed for a Monday night which was a nice surprise. The bar had a good vibe and the drinks were great. Sat after about 10 minutes wait and service was attentive and quick. Kale salad, NY Strip steak with brunt brussel and the cheesecake. All satisfying and delicious.
Partner enjoyed the soup, halibut and royal chocolate log (interesting story). Fine dining on the upper west side, 5-stars.
My friend and I split the calamari, I thought it should have been crispier. My friend that a marinara sauce would have been better than the little bit of Olive oil and herbs. I had the halibut, good portion and cooked to perfection. My friend had the linguine with clams. He was disappointed in the amount of clams and their size. So I gave him a third of my halibut. Bread was kind of eh. So overall oK but won’t go back before the Dylan concert.
