It was great
We enjoyed everything we ate, and the kitchen dispatches each plate with care. We also took advantage of their excellent wine list, celebrating with a fine bottle of Brunello di Montalcino. Our waiter was charming and the ambiance is generally nice. Perhaps some of the tables are too close to the bar area for evenings when the bar is busy. Still - every attempt was made to make us happy. We will definitely return next time we are in NYC.
Service is super slow , i used open table so they would be ready and expecting us .
Food is average at best took forever to get appetizers ..... absolutely not a place to go back to
Mediocre food. Animated, nice service.
We had to move tables mid-meal which was strange-though turned out to be fine as there was a ‘celebrity’ party coming in which was fun...
Food not as good as it used to be
Lovely meal, very nice ambiance. Appreciate they read comments and acted on them. Burrata and calamari was superb.
Our primary server was the worst waiter we have had in years
What a disappointment. Slow, inattentive service. Terrible food (surprise! We even had the evenings
specials! Awful!) And expensive on top of this. Stay away.
Always a great choice on the UWS. Adequate room between tables, great food, service, and ambience, and you can have a conversation without having to scream.
One of the best "deals" ever. TravelZoo voucher 3-course dinner with wine. Great value for great food in a quiet setting. What more could you want?
Service was slow and food was mediocre at best. Nice ambiance and very convenient to Beacon Theatre.
We have been to 'Cesca a couple of times and were very pleased on both occasions. On our most recent visit, the food was excellent. The salads were perfectly dressed (the arugula and fennel salad was a real winner), and the lobster risotto was delicious, with large chunks of lobster. All of the portions were generous, the service was excellent, and the meal was perfectly timed. We look forward to going back.
A very comfortable restaurant with excellent food. I told the host that we were celebrating my brother’s birthday. For dessert, they brought it with a Roman candle sparkler, which seemed like a fire hazard but was spectacular. It was much appreciated. I will definitely return.
It was our first time at this restaurant and we were all disappointed. The only reason I didn't say anything at the time is because my friends did not want me to do so. Another table near us complained to the manager and then walked out and left their dinners on the table after it took so long to serve them. It took a very long time for us to be served as well, even after we said we were going to a show. Everyone's food was very salty and for the prices, we expected a decent meal. Definitely not recommended.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Great drinks. !
They quite literally ran out of every appetizer on the menu by 6PM on a Sunday- not even a soup of the day available. The manager was kind enough to comp our entree... after waiting an hour for it.
Unpleasant dining experience. Understaffed and poorly equipped to deal with the crowds they book. After 25 minutes past our reservation time in the designated wait area (which also doubled as the waitstaff flight path to the bar dining area), we waited another 25 before being acknowledged at our table. Eventually the busboy arrived with the manna of cold, store bought seeded italian bread. A half hour later we received our appetizers minus one which had been forgotten. The fried cauliflower was good but the other apps were inconsistent. Beet salad was haphazardly presented with some slices thin as orange sections and others the size of golf balls. It was a full hour more before the entrees and sides arrived. My mushroom ravioli in truffle cream was bland ravioli in butter sauce with no hint of truffle. Creamed spinach arrived lukewarm in a pool of cold cream sauce. A dessert of apple cake was no better than Entenmann's with ice cream from a tub. Our bill was absurdly high for the quality of food and service and contained the cost of a dish we never ordered. I commend the waitstaff for trying.
The food and ambiance at Cesca is always great. However this time the service was terrible. First, though we made a bar reservation on open table the restaurant would not honor it. The Hostess said that the bar is first come first serve despite the fact that open table has the option to make a bar reservation. She said that they can’t remove that option from the open table settings. If that’s true there should be some other way to let patrons know. We had to wait quite awhile for something to open. Also that evening service was extremely slow. It took forever for our courses to arrive. It was very busy and the staff seemed overwhelmed.
Redecorations have removed upholstered banquets & chairs resulting in an increase in noise level. Could not hear friend sitting across from me. Service was only OK. Too bad since food is good although has gotten pricey.
Food was very good, but portions were smaller than anticipated. Value was good for mid-town NYC prices.
Great food, wine list and service. Hope to get back soon, since am a DC resident.
Always a pleasant time. Love this place!
We always enjoy the food at Cesca, but on this visit, we walked in after 10 pm and were a bit disappointed. Clearly the kitchen was closing - while the preparation was very good, some of the dishes were lukewarm and we felt that the waiter was hovering, waiting for us to finish. If they do not want people to come in at this hour, they shouldn't make reservations available.
Cesca is a friendly family-orientated restaurant. The food is Ok but the atmosphere is terrific. The service is fast, very friendly and professional. It is aalwways fun to have diner at Cesca's.
Just regret that they use AC on a day when outside temperature is 62. Dined with my coat on even after they reduced the flow of fresh air
First time here and pleasantly impressed. We were doing dinner before an event at the Beacon Theater, and the location couldn’t have been better. We had the pasta bolognese and the Branzino filet. Both excellent. Our server was very nice but occasionally hard to find when things got busy.
We arrived at 10pm on a Saturday and were promptly given a lovely table. The restaurant was half empty. The waiter was on top of us and kept pressuring us to order. And only showed us the a la carte menu. We had to ask for the dinner menu. The food was excellent. I had “Berkshire Pork Porterhouse”. Cooked to perfection. My companion had striped bass which was very well prepared. I would go there for an early dinner but they should not offer 10pm reservations.
About 10th time here but not in two years. Pretty restaurant . Very good food. Wine list very reasonable
Very expensive with a captive audience around the corner from the Beacon Theater. However disappointing service because our server was distracted and barely acknowledged our existence. Considering the $$$$ on this restaurant, they should have better waitstaff all around.
On a Friday night at 9:00pm they were already out of the first two entrees we ordered. Reordered two different simple pastas and they were dropped on the table without any offer of grated cheese or pepper. However, it did not matter since the dishes were tasteless and overcooked. Left them virtually untouched and they offered to wrap them to go. Really?
I paid $142.72 without tip for inedible food and a couple of cocktails. In Manhattan we have many choices of restaurants. I assure you I will not be back to Cesca, nor will I recommend it to a friend.
I guess it used to be good. Should have known when it was easy to get a 7:15 Friday night reservation the day before. Food was ok - though better values exist in the UWS. Service was awful - slow, forgot items we ordered. Maybe it was just one bad waiter. Clearly seems to be a restaurant on its last legs
The food and service were exceptional.
The portion sizes were above average...we ended up leaving some of the food behind because we were going to the Beacon or we would have taken home the leftovers.
Restaurant size is very misleading till you see the back of the place.
Absolutely will return again
At first, we were a table without any servers. After about 20 minutes, we finally hailed down someone to get us water and a drink order. After that, it was smooth sailing with great service, food and drinks. Would definitely come back. Just right for pre-theater at the Beacon.
This was a pleasant surprise. Even though I live close by, I had never dined here before. Very nice room, good variety on the menu, excellent service, good food.
This was our first time and we loved it and so did our guests from California. The food was very good and I have to make a special note of how very very good the service was! We will go back.
Had not been to the restaurant in some time. I am a big fan of stuffed pasta and ordered the ravioli. It was very bland and totally tasteless. No seasoning at all and nothing to recommend it. The beet salad was also not to my liking, but is more of a personal preference. I like my beet salad to be mostly beets not mostly greens. This one had a few beets, but was mostly arugula.
They were way understaffed.
The Manager was aware and bought us our drinks which was nice but hopefully they don’t let that happen again.
The food is great!
We were here on a busy night, but the food and service were still excellent. Halibut was delicious and fresh. Our service team was excellent, pacing dinner perfectly. We have eaten here before and enjoyed it.
There were some interesting menu changes since my last visit, and overall I thought the dinner was excellent. The scallops, which have been on the menu for years, were as sweet and perfectly done as ever, and a special appetizer of rolled stuffed eggplant was outstanding. My friend thought the octopus appetizer was outstanding, and praised his main course as well.
I was there with two out of town guests. The waiter was unpleasant and my guests commented on their "New York experience". Not the kind I would recommended for them.
