Fried green tomatoes, Caesar salad, fish picatta and chicken fettuccine. All were excellent. Surprisingly enjoyable experience.
We had a delicious meal of haddock piccata and great service from Mike. He also recommended an excellent wine to accompany our fish and we appreciated his suggestion. We will be back on our next visit to Alpine.
We spent our anniversary here. We were not disappointed! We sat in the courtyard, and had very good service. The food was delicious and well prepared. We had a salad with goat cheese and filet mignon, with a bottle of very good Texan merlot.
Horrible service. Appetizers took an hour to get to us. Entrees were another hour. They then screwed up our checks. Complained to management. They ruined a good evening
Charming place in gorgeous old hotel. Food was delicious and staff very friendly.
Food was great, the fried green tomato appetiser and caprese salad were excellent and the Elk short ribs were delicious. Loved the enclosed patio on a cool night with the outdoor fireplace. Wait staff was very attentive.
Lovely in its decor, the Century Bar and Restaurant is located in the historic Holland Hotel. I especially enjoy Brunch at the Century Bar (sitting in the bar area, with the large windows facing Holland Street). My most recent experience at the Century Restaurant was for a late dinner, and we were seated in the restaurant area (not the upfront bar area) in a booth (I love booths and when given the option of a table or a booth, I always go with a booth---more intimate---usually more quiet). The booth (of which there area three) was directly in front of the open kitchen grill area......which is usually kind of interesting at other restaurants, being able to observe the goings on in the grill area......however, at the Century Restaurant the "chef?" or whoever the kitchen workers were in that open area....when the meals were ready for the wait staff to pick up, the "chef" would HOLLER and I mean SHOUT ANGRILY and LOUDLY ----FOOD SERVICE! or PICK UP!! and YELL out the name of the server who was to pick up the food. It was horrible and completely ruined the ambiance of the evening---when you're paying high dollar for a lovely meal in a lovely location, you don't want some burly, loud-mouth bully YELLING in your ear every 5 minutes, disrupting your conversation. It's not the appropriate conduct for such a place------for a Waffle House maybe......but not a restaurant that is charging the prices you pay for elegance. So.....that was off-putting, to the point of becoming rather comical really, because there was nothing I or my dinner guest could do about it....so we turned it into a joke really---but on a serious note, it was tasteless , invasive, crude behavior and turned an otherwise enjoyable experience into one that was a tad hard to tolerate. Perhaps the restaurant could come up with some other way of having the kitchen communicate with their wait staff--some type of ear piece maybe? a lighting system? a buzzer or bell ? vibrate their smartphone?
Food was very good and the patio was lovely. The martini my husband had was great.
This establishment didn't live up to it's hype. The service was super slow and disorganized. Appetizer snd salad came out together. Salad was not fresh or cold. Green tomatoes were bland and lacking enough sauce. The boar was wonderful, great gravy and mashed potatoes. Corn was grilled but not dressed with cheese or butter so it wasn't very good. Service never checked back on dinner, so I couldn't get anything to make it better. Ordered the chocolate tart, but it never arrived. I thought sending the salad back untouched, they should have removed from my bill, but they didn't. Take my advice try some place else to eat in Alpine.
Frozen vegetables were not worth $17. Only vegetarian option.
We were on vacation and out for a family dinner. Meal was below expectations. Four items on a 15 item menu were not available due to a menu change over. The items that remained were not very good. It was a bad experience.
The menu needs to be updated and offer steak options.
We always like to dine here when in Alpine. The food and service are excellent . The hotel is a classic.
Excellent atmosphere, amazing food, diverse menu options. We were guests of the Holland Hotel. My wife had the wagyu steak & I had the bison pot roast. We split a goat cheese salad. Would highly recommend!
Best meal we had during our entire trip, and we were pleasantly surprised. The steak and frites were good, a bit fatty, but lots of flavor, and the fries weee perfect. The lamb was awesome too!
I ordered the 'Squash Medley', which sounds like a healthful dish. What I got was basically a thick gravy embedded into some nice pieces of squash. From a nutritional standpoint (and I have a PhD in nutrition), this dish had about 2500-3000 calories. Having said that, it was tasty, and I know that not everyone is looking for super-healthy meals. My husband had a meat-based dish (with bison, I think) and he enjoyed it. Also, we have no other complaints. In sum, don't order Squash Medley unless you want some gravy!
I really enjoyed the yummy quail stuffed with prosciutto-wrapped fig, and the husband ate every bite of the duck breast. Salad was fresh and tasty. Excellent service, comfy casual atmosphere.
Horrible service, terrible food, expensive prices. There was no redeeming aspect to this meal except that they did not charge us for the entree that they did not deliver.
We decided to eat at this restaurant in the Holland Hotel instead of our usual Riata Grill. The menu is a bit limited especially for a pescatarian. But our waiter and the chef worked with us and made a very memorable dinner. The caprese salad was amazing as was the salmon.
We've eaten at the Century several times before and have always been very satisfied; however they were a bit off the evening we visited. My lamb kabobs were quite full of gristle and service was lacking. We're willing to give it another try though on our next trip to Alpine.
Great bar service and drinks. Moved on to the dining area for my wife's birthday dinner. Then things deteriorated. Only one of two dinner napkin wraps had a knife. Wife ordered Ceasar salad. Needed more dressing, ordered more and were brought a totally different dressing than what was on the salad originally. Potroast was great, very appealing and flavorful. Chickenfried wild boar was tough and tasteless. You would think for $30 it would be decent meat. The breading was not attached to the meat. Either the breading was cold or the meat was cold when fried. Breading appeared to be of the pre-prepared, frozen entree type. Service was very spotty and hard to get refills and or additional items.
Great Chef. Friendly wait staff. Excellent appetizers and loved the chicken fried wild boar! Tender, gravy was cumin jalapeño, butternut and potato mash with rosemary and grilled corn! Wow!
I think it depends on what you order The menu was not the same as the website. Two of our party ordered the bison meatloaf which was excellent I ordered the pasta dish which was tasteless and was sent back I then tried the pazole soup which I didn't like either I ate their Caesar salad with sun dried tomato Caesar dressing The salad did not have any parmesan and then they charged extra for tomatoes. I basically pain $ 150 for 4 people and I left with basically left with eating a salad and 1/2 bowl of soup Overall value was poor.
Food was great, as always, but service was lacking this trip. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated without issue, but appetizers took a full hour before they came out. With 3 kids with us, it was difficult to keep the hunger at bay while we waited on our food and our server to refill drinks. This was unusually bad service and timing - especially for not being overly busy.
The Finest Dining Experience available in West Texas!
They treated us like royalty! We had a fantastic meal and a great experience. The staff was absolutely amazing
Caesar salad was very good. Special steak was delicious along with fries. The best coconut flan ever
Our waiter, Mike, was super knowledgeable and was always there when we needed anything!! Steak was perfect and dessert was sooooo good and so creative!!! Definitely go back and highly recommend!!!
We were visiting the Marathon/Apline area for a anniversary weekend getaway. We found the Century Grill. The food was great and the service was great as well. We had a caramel/chocolate ice cream treat that was outstanding. We would definitely go back.
The service was amazing, our waitress was the best, we couldnt have asked for better service from her and my wife is already talking about coming back. The chef's are quite talented. It was such a pleasant experience im really having a hard time trying to explain it.
Went last October 2016 food was excellent and was really looking forward to eating there again. This time they have new chef and new menu was very disappointed .
This food was amazing. The most tender wild boar. My friend had the shish-kebob and it was excellent. Nice wine list by glass ( great selection) and a great selection by bottle.
Very nice dining experience in the lovely restored Holland Hotel in Alpine, TX.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was the same. We had a large group and they were able to accommodate all of us with ease.
Some of the best food I've tasted in a long time. The baked Brie was absolutely fantastic and my steak was tasty and fork tender.
Inedible expensive steak. However, the bar area was attractive in a quaint sort of way
I suppose making a 1:45 reservation when brunch concludes at 2:00 was my mistake, though if a restaurant will accept the reservation they should be prepared not to rush diners in and out and to thoughtfully prepare the food. Nope. Hurried along from moment one (it's nice to be offered a drink order before being asked what you want to eat), no water refills, several requests had to be repeated, somehow got the last horseradish sauce in the whole place, prime rib has obviously been cooking for hours and hours, burger ordered medium was well done, bread plate cleared away *while* the bread was in my hand, check was dropped off before we finished our meals, and to top if all off, I was charged double the menu price to add steak to a salad. When I searched for our waiter to point it out (he was hanging out with the other employees, loudly gossiping), the response was, "I don't think I'm going to be able to do anything about that. It must've been a mistake on the menu. Are you sure?" I showed him the price on the menu, and I guess the look on my face said it all, because he then went off to find the manager. Finally, he returned to repeat, "I can't do anything about this," and then, "But I can give you the difference back in cash." Fine. Whatever. He was apologetic, but the manager never came to the table, it was far too late for a saving grace, and it was the final detail to a bad experience riddled with incompetence from start to finish. I've dined here before but will not go back.
The staff was friendly and attentive. Food was cooked well with beautiful plating. Was very pleased to see a great vegan option on the menu that tasted as good as it looked. We also had the duck breast, which was delicious too. Courtyard is lovely and there was a musician playing acoustic guitar which provided nice ambiance. Great wine and cocktail selection. Would definitely recommend.
The food exceeded my expectations. The grilled salmon with kale was exceptional. My husband had the duck breast and enjoyed it immensely. The service was fine, although not at the level of the food. I would definitely go back there if I was in the area.
Although we were seated in a booth in a narrow area right next to the kitchen, it was OK as we were sheltered from all the other diners. We ordered a salad for an apetizer and when it took a while for it to come we thought everything might arrive at once, but they waited for us to finish the salad before serving the main course. We shared the Campbell River salmon which was served on a bed of sauteed kale with orange pieces - an unusual combination but very tasty.
