I ordered the 'Squash Medley', which sounds like a healthful dish. What I got was basically a thick gravy embedded into some nice pieces of squash. From a nutritional standpoint (and I have a PhD in nutrition), this dish had about 2500-3000 calories. Having said that, it was tasty, and I know that not everyone is looking for super-healthy meals. My husband had a meat-based dish (with bison, I think) and he enjoyed it. Also, we have no other complaints. In sum, don't order Squash Medley unless you want some gravy!
We decided to eat at this restaurant in the Holland Hotel instead of our usual Riata Grill. The menu is a bit limited especially for a pescatarian. But our waiter and the chef worked with us and made a very memorable dinner. The caprese salad was amazing as was the salmon.
We've eaten at the Century several times before and have always been very satisfied; however they were a bit off the evening we visited. My lamb kabobs were quite full of gristle and service was lacking. We're willing to give it another try though on our next trip to Alpine.
Great bar service and drinks. Moved on to the dining area for my wife's birthday dinner. Then things deteriorated. Only one of two dinner napkin wraps had a knife. Wife ordered Ceasar salad. Needed more dressing, ordered more and were brought a totally different dressing than what was on the salad originally. Potroast was great, very appealing and flavorful. Chickenfried wild boar was tough and tasteless. You would think for $30 it would be decent meat. The breading was not attached to the meat. Either the breading was cold or the meat was cold when fried. Breading appeared to be of the pre-prepared, frozen entree type. Service was very spotty and hard to get refills and or additional items.
I think it depends on what you order The menu was not the same as the website. Two of our party ordered the bison meatloaf which was excellent I ordered the pasta dish which was tasteless and was sent back I then tried the pazole soup which I didn't like either I ate their Caesar salad with sun dried tomato Caesar dressing The salad did not have any parmesan and then they charged extra for tomatoes. I basically pain $ 150 for 4 people and I left with basically left with eating a salad and 1/2 bowl of soup Overall value was poor.
Food was great, as always, but service was lacking this trip. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated without issue, but appetizers took a full hour before they came out. With 3 kids with us, it was difficult to keep the hunger at bay while we waited on our food and our server to refill drinks. This was unusually bad service and timing - especially for not being overly busy.
The service was amazing, our waitress was the best, we couldnt have asked for better service from her and my wife is already talking about coming back. The chef's are quite talented. It was such a pleasant experience im really having a hard time trying to explain it.
I suppose making a 1:45 reservation when brunch concludes at 2:00 was my mistake, though if a restaurant will accept the reservation they should be prepared not to rush diners in and out and to thoughtfully prepare the food. Nope. Hurried along from moment one (it's nice to be offered a drink order before being asked what you want to eat), no water refills, several requests had to be repeated, somehow got the last horseradish sauce in the whole place, prime rib has obviously been cooking for hours and hours, burger ordered medium was well done, bread plate cleared away *while* the bread was in my hand, check was dropped off before we finished our meals, and to top if all off, I was charged double the menu price to add steak to a salad. When I searched for our waiter to point it out (he was hanging out with the other employees, loudly gossiping), the response was, "I don't think I'm going to be able to do anything about that. It must've been a mistake on the menu. Are you sure?" I showed him the price on the menu, and I guess the look on my face said it all, because he then went off to find the manager. Finally, he returned to repeat, "I can't do anything about this," and then, "But I can give you the difference back in cash." Fine. Whatever. He was apologetic, but the manager never came to the table, it was far too late for a saving grace, and it was the final detail to a bad experience riddled with incompetence from start to finish. I've dined here before but will not go back.
The staff was friendly and attentive. Food was cooked well with beautiful plating. Was very pleased to see a great vegan option on the menu that tasted as good as it looked. We also had the duck breast, which was delicious too. Courtyard is lovely and there was a musician playing acoustic guitar which provided nice ambiance. Great wine and cocktail selection. Would definitely recommend.
Although we were seated in a booth in a narrow area right next to the kitchen, it was OK as we were sheltered from all the other diners. We ordered a salad for an apetizer and when it took a while for it to come we thought everything might arrive at once, but they waited for us to finish the salad before serving the main course. We shared the Campbell River salmon which was served on a bed of sauteed kale with orange pieces - an unusual combination but very tasty.
Salad was pre-prepared and did not taste good (server removed from bill); roast beef on charcuterie tray tasted old; server was friendly but had to be reminded to take used appetizer plates; the chicken fried steak was good, the fish and chips good, but the tenderloin, while cooked properly, didn't have much flavor.
The ambience was great! Eating in such a historic place was really nice- great art and firnishings. I ordered the salmon medium well, and the first try was burnt, the second try was rare, and the third try was just Ok- very under-seasoned and bland. My sister had the habanero margarita which was excellent. Overall a good experience, but my meal was not quite worth the price. Beautiful historic town and hotel and enjoyed our visit .
Took 45 minutes to get our food. Everything was under seasoned. Our waitress was cute and polite yet completely ignored the delays, did not ask about our meals, it almost seemed as if she knew we would be mad and just try to avoid us. Very underwhelming experience.
All three of us agreed it was the best chicken fried steak we'd ever had (we all tried each other's dishes) AND the best filet. That's high praise coming from the two of our group who are cattle ranchers. Absolutely outstanding. Such a surprise for such a small town. Amazing meal!
