Central Ratings and Reviews
Overpriced fare with very small portions/servings.
I have tried this place a few times....to give it a chance.
I will not return.
$68.00 for one entree and a side. Lets not forget the $5.00 upcharge to change one green veggie for another green veggie.
The price does not warrant food they serve.
Suggest you find some place else.
Drive to Birmingham for dinner at J Alexanders......well worth it!!!!
I had the filet mignon and it was delish! The one thing I didn't care for was the sauce that was on the filet. It would be great if they offered the typical steak sauce such as Heinz 57 or A1. Overall, I really enjoy eating here and will definitely be going back!
The menu has changed and with that, the portion size is smaller. Would have expected a little bit more food for the money. Also our Waittress was new and was not very attentive. We waited atleast 15 minutes to get water and when she did come to our table, she did not introduce herself, just rattled off the special for the night and said she was attending a bigger table and had to cash them out. We felt as if us being there was an issue.
My first experience at Central was PHENOMENAL!! My second time though—left a lot to be desired. Our server seemed clueless and the pork chop was WAY over salted (and trust me, I LOVE salt). At a restaurant of this caliper, I’d expect someone in management at least pop by the table and apologize, etc. Instead we were offered a dessert we didn’t want and sent on our way. Overall, I was super disappointed!!!
Went for New Year's Eve and had the Beef Wellington and shrimp and grits. The grits were done in a unique "think outside the box" way we'd never seen but loved. Best Wellington we've had in our lives. I've eaten my share while traveling all over the world while Active Duty Air Force.
Three of the four in our party really enjoyed our meal, however, one in our party had a hard time finding something on the menu as he does not eat red meat, is diabetic, and picky about vegetables. Wish there had been a choice like a grilled chicken breast over salad.
I was very disappointed. I used to go 3 or 4 times a year and haven’t been in over a year but this was a special occasion. Imagine my shock that everything is a la cart now including steak sauces and butter (really $3 for butter!). Had to wait 5 minutes to get salt and pepper for my salad. Our server said she had only worked there 2 or 3 months and she was a novice at best. Food is good but for the price ($30 for a ribeye) you shouldn’t have to pay another $5 for fries or green beans! Vintage Year offers superior service and food with a more intimate and cozy environment. Sorry Central but you have lost my business!
This is one of our favorite local restaurants. The service is always top notch. We love that it is farm to table and they support local growers. The menu changes often so you are never bored with their food which is of superior quality and taste. Their chefs are true artists.
I brought a group of ladies from out of town for lunch. I asked to change both our number and reservation time. Both were accommodated without any problem and with the utmost politeness. Every person in our party of 12 thoroughly enjoyed their entrees and loved the atmosphere. Thanks Central for making our lunch outing such a pleasant experience.
We absolutely LOVED the fall bruschetta. The eggplant was AMAZING, and it was a delightful vegetarian starter! I would have eaten it for an entree for sure. The atmosphere was really unique and made for a great date night. AND the sun-dried tomato grits were pure joy in a cup.
I ordered the veal chop as recommended (medium rare) , however when I tried it had the flavor of gas and the chop was raw. The waitress was shocked when I cut into the chop to show her how rare it was. I am all about medium rare but but a 14 ounce chop needs more than a quick flip on the grill. Must have been an off night as I have had better meals here in the past. Will have to think twice before coming back.
This was our first visit to Central, and it was an overall solid experience. Our server was friendly and attentive and greeted us soon after we were seated. Our first drink orders came out quickly (check out the Sweeney Sour if you like Amaretto), but our following round took quite a while. We ordered the Gulf crab claws starter, and I highly recommend it: a delicious cream sauce with lump crab in the bottom of the dish! Our entrees were a bit hit-or-miss. The jerk chicken and trout almondine got great reviews, and the short ribs were phenomenal, but my pork chop was pretty disappointing - a bit overcooked and lacking much flavor at all. One miss for the table isn't too bad, and we'll likely be back the next time we're in town (and I'll order the short ribs!).
We’ve dined at a central multiple times but this occasion was for my birthday! From complimentary valet to paying our bill this place is flawless. Great food choices, perfectly lit evening ambiance, excellent service and not noisy make this place outshine all the competition. I would have rated them perfect for noise however, there was a Bama game on and well, you know how they love their football :) Go, you will not be disappointed!
Great experience - service was excellent, and food was very, very good.
Short ribs were fantastic. Two of us had the Pastalya which was a very strange dish, i was not a fan. The charcuterie board was really wonderful, and but for the Pastalya, I would have rated all the food excellent.
Again, great service and wonderful ambience.
