Central Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit to Central, and it was an overall solid experience. Our server was friendly and attentive and greeted us soon after we were seated. Our first drink orders came out quickly (check out the Sweeney Sour if you like Amaretto), but our following round took quite a while. We ordered the Gulf crab claws starter, and I highly recommend it: a delicious cream sauce with lump crab in the bottom of the dish! Our entrees were a bit hit-or-miss. The jerk chicken and trout almondine got great reviews, and the short ribs were phenomenal, but my pork chop was pretty disappointing - a bit overcooked and lacking much flavor at all. One miss for the table isn't too bad, and we'll likely be back the next time we're in town (and I'll order the short ribs!).
We’ve dined at a central multiple times but this occasion was for my birthday! From complimentary valet to paying our bill this place is flawless. Great food choices, perfectly lit evening ambiance, excellent service and not noisy make this place outshine all the competition. I would have rated them perfect for noise however, there was a Bama game on and well, you know how they love their football :) Go, you will not be disappointed!
Great experience - service was excellent, and food was very, very good.
Short ribs were fantastic. Two of us had the Pastalya which was a very strange dish, i was not a fan. The charcuterie board was really wonderful, and but for the Pastalya, I would have rated all the food excellent.
Again, great service and wonderful ambience.
First time I tried Central I thought it was the best meal that I have ever had. Had the smoked pork that you could cut with your fork. Came back to Montgomery and was so excited about another meal at Central. What a disappointment! The dinner menu changed three days before and I had the pork chops. They were tasteless, dry and tuff. Had some type of stuffed potato shell noodles that were also blah. My friend had the fried lamb which was horrible. Will never go back.
The food was fine. However we we're placed at a small two top near the door with my back to the main isle. Then they sat two people at a four top right behind me (the restaurant was half empty) which protruded into the isle such that every time a wait staff went by me they hit me or my chair. I mentioned it to our waitress and she agreed the other table was way to close to us and then walked away without doing anything to remedy this situation and in fact virtually ignored us for the rest of the evening. I eventually moved my chair around the side of the small two top. When we told the manager as well left he was apologetic but there was nothing to be done at that point. A restaurant who's wait staff doesn't know how to respond to a situation like this has serious customer service issues.
Hubby and I met another couple for an early dinner before a symphony concert. We had reservations for 5:30 and had to wait until almost 5:45 for our table while the servers got organized. Other than that delay, our dinner was perfect: excellent food, good wine by the glass, and attentive but not intrusive service. Our waiter, Antonio, passed by the table several times and silently checked on us. Of course, he did politely remove empty plates and such, but without interrupting our conversations. We will return before the next concert.
I’ve only been to Montgomery a handful of times, but I came across Central while looking for a nice place to eat on date night. Very nice place and my food, 7oz Angus Beef Filet, Smashed New Potatoes, and Green Beans were absolutely perfect. Very professional servers and multiple managers made frequent table visits to ensure the best of service was being given at all times.
The server Myra was great. The manager Aaron came to the table several times and checked on us. The 1895 Pork and Beans were to die for and my wife's chicken was great...but I ordered better. Great atmosphere and a wonderful place to take your wife on an anniversary. Will definitely be back.
My husband and I ended up in Montgomery after extensive business travel to separate locations and were looking for a special place for a romantic dinner to reconnect. Central was recommended by a colleague and my search of reviews called it the "Best restaurant in Montgomery." They were right on all accounts! Welcoming and attentive staff, a comfortable environment, festive and delicious cocktails, and fabulous food. Our server, Patrick, made our evening especially delightful. We loved everything about this place and will definitely return.
Good food and service! The atmosphere was great, however we especially requested a nice table and we didn't get that even though when we reserved all times were available so we would have assumed they could make this possible. Also we asked them to cater for a vegetarian and this wasn't catered for either.
Went to Central for a late anniversary dinner. It was very good. I had the pork and beans, and wife had a ribeye. We both enjoyed our food. Also, our server was awesome. Very funny guy with good knowledge of the menu and of the customers he was dealing with. We would recommend Central.
Oh they also gave us free champaign for our anniversary. My only complaint is the menu is a bit limited, and actually for a date the food came out a bit TOO fast (I know thats a complaint, you can deal with).
Nice drinks, good salads. My entree (beef cheeks in the Alabama poutine) was not cooked properly so that streaks of hard fat remained. But what really put us off was the server who delivered our bill with the computerized suggested tip amount hand circled...as if we have no idea how to tip. Kind of an insult to all customers.
I was so looking forward to Central for my birthday dinner. When we arrived, the wine list had been changed and our by the glass choices for a red were quite limited. And when I asked for something from the lunch menu that did not appear on the dinner menu--a simple hamburger--my request was refused. We finished our wine and left. Went to Vintage Year and had a fantastic experience!
