Central Michel Richard Ratings and Reviews
An absolute treat. It was a wonderful place for dinner. There were 3 of us having dinner and 2 are real Southerners. They were thrilled with the fried chicken. I had the hangar steak which was delicious. The small watercress salad on each dinner plate was a nice surprise and very tasty. Can't wait to return.
The restaurant has a pleasant interior (clean lines, high ceiling). However the hostess did not seem to recognize our reservation and did not convey to our waitress that this was a special occasion. The waitress gave little guidance to help our choices ("everything is good"), and lacked gracefulness and attentiveness, despite the fact that the restaurant was almost empty. This might have been due to the fact that it was an icy Monday evening.
Although well plated (see the fun to eat "Lemon eggceptional" dessert photo), some food was fine (calamari) while some did not meet basic expectations: In particular the loup de mer was highly disappointing (the fish did not taste fresh).
Unfortunately the overall experience was one that we will not keep fond memories of.
I returned for the French Onion Soup and stayed for the Fried Chicken and Waffles. The French Onion Soup is complex and the only one I've ever been satisfied eating, with rich complex flavors without burying you in salt. The Chicken and Waffles were perfectly portioned and balanced, and the maple syrup had a slight kick to it that added a spectacular acid to the dish. The service was polite and extremely helpful. Our seat had a wonderful view into the kitchen and we got to see the deep care that went into each dish.
Felt portions were slim for the price. Went for brunch - the cinnamon bun was small and they gave me two macaroons for dessert. Presentation was two macaroons. Not even an attempt to decorate. Butternut squash hash was a pleasant surprise. Otherwise a disappointment.
Despite us calling to cancel, the hostess at this restaurant insisted on charging us 50/pp to make cancellation. My understanding at time of booking was that cancellation fee applied to only parties of six or more. I enjoy the food here and have been several times but will not reserve here again as god forbid, I get a cold and then get charged for having one.
The staff was very friendly and although busy on New Year's Eve it wasn't noticeable. Meaning, our dining experience was very pleasant, not noisy or distracting. My scallop dish was cooked to perfection, not rubbery or dry, but tender to cut with a fork and moist. I could left off the Truffles, didn't enhance my dish as suggested and I enjoyed the chocolate mousse. I do recommend warning guest that the Banana Split dessert is enough for 2 easily. We were shocked at the size... I guest an excellent deal for some. I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining at Central Michel Richard again.
My sea bass was very dry - below average. The ambience is very average - lighting is too bright. When my husband met us there he asked me if it is a café? I agreed that it feels like a casual cafe and has little to no ambiance. I think dimming the lights might help a lot. Not interested in returning although our waiter was happy and accommodating.
After four years since my last visit it’s fair to say that the place has grown tired. Let me be sure to pay complement to our server who did a nice job when she had time to attend to us..... that said it’s crazy to have a shortage of staff to attend to your guest in a fusion that is inline with the prices and expectations.
I can't say enough good things about Central Michel Richard. It has been a favorite for a long time. It features good food in a casual atmosphere. The servers are always personable and capable. Clarissa, our server on 12/28, was delightful. But here is the best part. I like a certain table and request it when I make a reservation. So far, they have always been able to accommodate my wish. Makes me feel quite special.
Decided to dine again at Central due to proximity to Fords Theater and good food. The waiter was wonderful, attentive, knowledgeable, and cognizant of our theater reservations. He accommodated my vegan requests and the menu offers a vegan coconut lentil dish that was scrumptious. Our waiter even had a fresh berry plate prepared for us per our request. We had an enjoyable meal and a very pleasant experience. Once again, Central did not disappoint.
Expected a lot more- terrible service! 1 of the three of us didn’t like the meal, left it, and the waiter never checked on us, refilled beverages, or asked for dessert. Took 15 minutes to get the check- we went pretheatre and almost missed the show- missed the meet & great...arrived 5:30 for reservation & couldn’t get out until 7:10 and they weren’t busy.
LOVE - Central is one of my favorite restaurants. The food last night was one of the best if not the best meals I've had there. I'm craving it today. Drinks were over the top good. My Dad and I had Manhattans. My Mom got 1/2 bottle of wine and my husband got sangria. Of course the cheese puffs are addicting and you can't have just one. You will want one after another. The short rib was my favorite last night. So tender. We compared it to my Mom's roast which you usually can't touch. My Mother scraped her plate clean after enjoying the sautéed scallops with beets. My Father devoured his hamburger. The sides at Central are just as good as the main courses. You cannot go without the mashed potatoes. I decided last night that they are the best and seemed to be even better than I remembered in the past. They were creamy good. The mac and cheese is always a must. I always get it really crispy on top. My Dad had the u'gratin potatoes and loved them. He ate the leftover for breakfast this morning. Now for dessert - of course someone got the chocolate bar, we got gelato and my husband got the Snowman. The Snowman was beautiful and yummy. It is made out of meringue and had a beautiful cream and berries. I loved it. Our server was wonderful.
My meal was average. Salmon was bland and the French onion soup wasn’t too flavorful. I will stick to LeDiplomate when it comes to onion soup and return for Happy Hour when I’m on assignment in DC.
Waitress was very distracted and seemed to be in a rush when approaching the table. When asked about suggestions she wasn’t very helpful at all.
After dinner, we had drinks at the bar which was a much better experience. The bartender was very pleasant and crafted great cocktails.
It's a shame... The food is very good EXCEPT that both our dishes were exceptionally (foolishly) unpleasantly salty. Even by restaurant standards, this was extreme. At the theater afterward, I felt I was suffering dehydration!. Otherwise, it was well prepared and nicely constructed. Deserts yummy. The service was friendly and efficient. The interior simple and comfortable. The wine by the glass pleasant.
I wish I could go back.
