Central Michel Richard
Appitizer and sides came after main entre.
Service was prompt. One of the dishes, short ribs, is way too salty. Couldn’t finish the dish. Brussel sprouts were burnt. The companion liked the fried chicken, which was apparently one of the most popular dishes. Overall would recommend.
Always a hit. Great food in a central location. Great for lunch, dinner or they also serve a great brunch!
Amazing food, perfect service and great setting and value!
Waited almost an hour to be seated with a confirmed reservation
I have been coming to Central Michel Richard for years and it never disappoints. The cheese puffs are da bomb, the goat cheese Caesar salad and the fried chicken were delicious as always. I brought a client on Friday night and he loved it. Consistency is key in the restaurant business and Central is always excellent.

Dinner before Capitol Steps show while In town for a conference.
Food was absolutely delicious while being very reasonably priced.
My husband and I were attending a program at the Smithsonian and decided to have an early dinner nearby. We were attracted by Central’s pre-theater dinner, and good reputation. We were very pleased with our choice. Both the service and food were excellent. The server was attentive without being overly-intrusive. And all our courses were served at an ideal pace. The food was delicious. We both had the salmon which was perfectly cooked, and the presentation was lovely. We would definitely return to Central.
I had read the great reviews in advance so had high expectations. In reality, I was a little underwhelmed as the noise level was quite high, and the tables were pretty basic, almost like in a canteen. Maybe this was the decorative intention, however it just didn't feel "special" enough for an occasion. On the food side, I had the Prime Burger, which was perfectly fine for taste but impossible to eat as it was served, due to its towering height. I had to deconstruct it in order to fit it in my mouth, which was less than ideal. Overall, the meal was fine, however in summary I just couldn't justify going back again or recommending it to a friend based on this visit.
Delay being seated and served. Great meal.
Staff was very attentive and courteous. Menu had "something for everyone".
One side dish was over-cooked, but replaced on request and the freshly prepared one was delicious. Noise level started high, and got higher through the meal.
Nice spot for pre-theatre. My wife and I had the hamburger and the tuna burger. Quite tasty and reasonably priced. We did not try the $40 per person special for pre-theatre. Service was excellent. Very attentive. Nice seat near the kitchen so we could see all the action. US Senator sitting nearby.
The food is consistently good, the variety is fabulous. I especially enjoyed some of the vegetarian options.
Excellent customer service
Celebration dinner for both my birthday and completing my first week of work at a new job. Service was fantastic, from the waiter to both managers that were floating through the restaurant and stopping for a quick chat to the greeting from the host when we first arrived.
And the quality of the food didn't disappoint either. The oysters were easily some of the best we have ever had and a wonderful representation of varying taste profiles and texture. I literally can't say enough good things about the food quality and amount. Will definitely return again and the nice thing is we are local so it will be often!!!
Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. In our group, we had onion soup, cheeseburger, roast chicken, salmon, goat cheese caesar salad, coconut sorbet sundae and creme brûlée. Service was excellent, and a manager checked with us a few times to make sure everything was okay. It had been awhile since we had dined there, but we will definitely be back.
We have enjoyed Central many times over the years. Always a celebratory atmosphere. However, this time when encouraged to try scallops that are a new item on the menu and served 3 (well prepared) scallops on a small bed of greens for $27, I couldn’t quite justify that. $9 per scallop. Mmmm
Enjoyed the starters and Hanger Steak with peppercorn sauce. Will definitely go back.
Generally ignored by server and slow service of food
Celebrating my husbands birthday with our friends. The overall wasn’t too bad. Food was delicious, although they were extremely slow to serve our main dishes and there were only 3 tables.
We had brought a cake with us to celebrate. First, we were charged a fee because we brought our own cake. Second, we were going to be charged a fee of $3 per plate if they were to cut pieces of cake. ITS INSANE! We have celebrated many birthdays at so many restaurants and never was there all these charges for such a thing. We did order dessert as well from their menu but despite that we were still charged these fees.
It was very disappointing that we had experienced this at such a restaurant, and will definitely never return.

Simply amazing! Service was superb... everything we ordered was top-notch. We started by sharing a golden beet salad, my wife had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes (I snuck a few bites)... I had the bucco osso... dessert was splendid as well.
Wonderful as usual
This was a return trip for us; this time for lunch. Delighted again! Without any doubt, the best burger in the city. Overall the food is just outstanding...and their desserts should never be skipped.
Mixed feelings. I would recommend Central to a friend, but with a big caveat - the new wine menu.
The ambience, service and food is still fantastic and the food menu is well priced. However I was very shocked and disappointed by the new wine list. The previous wine list had a good selections of wines at approachable prices (e.g. French Pinot Noirs starting at $60) that matched the brasserie style of the restaurant, menu and ambiance. However the red wines (Pinot Noir and Cabs/blends) all start at $100 plus, which is not in keeping with the menu and more akin to steak house and fine dining pricing. The wines available by the glass are apparently available by the bottle, but the menu doesn’t show this. Plus usually a wine by the bottle would cost a little less that buying four single glasses.
The wine prices are hard to justify for a lunch or dinner with friends and impossible to justify for a business dinner on company account.
I will have to think very hard before returning, as I wouldn’t have a meal without wine and the wine menu puts me off having wine, or the style of wine I would like.
It's a convenient restaurant for business lunches, and the food is excellent, but the service has been bad the last two times I've been there.
Overall experience was good. My rice with coconut dressing and veggies was a little too salty for my taste.
Great food and service. Went for my Birthday would highly recommend.
The food here is excellent. Definitely get the gazpacho if it’s in season. The fried chicken is not to be missed and the short rib Bourgogne is to die for. They are a machine in the kitchen so ask them to space out your courses if you want s more leisurely meal. Definitely would go back. The staff is wonderful and makes you feel like family which is hard to do in s bustling big restaurant.
Always a wonderful experience from start to finish! Highly recommend
We picked it based on location reviews and pictures of food looked great but the flavor wasn’t all there. I’m from out of time but next time I’m in DC I will pass on this restaurant.
Slight disappointment that they were out of the filet, but the shrimp risotto, fried chicken and Bouillabaisse were outstanding, as was the chocolate mousse.
Good food. Odd atmosphere. Cheese puffs were yummy.
The GM was generally thoughtless, the waitstaff inattentive, and the food just ok. This place has lost its Mojo.
I marked that this was an anniversary dinner, and Central granted my request to be seated by the open kitchen. We were even given complimentary champagne! Food, as usual, was phenomenal. I love it here and will continue to return.
Wait staff was professional and helpful. Meat was overcooked. Asked for medium it came medium well. French onion soup was acceptable but not memorable. The best course was the soup. Will not return, don't recommend it to anyone else.
Excellent pre-theater dinner, enhanced by the live theater of sitting by the kitchen pass and watching the constant dynamics between kitchen and staff. Our waiter checked upfront if we had theater tickets and for what time so as to manage our service - very helpful and reassuring - and we were done in good time without feeling rushed. Our food was very good indeed. The fried chicken certainly lives up to is reputation and the yellow tomato gazpacho was absolutely delicious. And a shout out to any restaurant that serves my favourite Veuve Clicquot by the glass!
I would have rated outstanding but the server wasn't very attentive so that's why I deducted a star. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and food.
The food was outstanding. All four dishes were very flavorful and beautifully presented. The restaurant could use a few more wait staff members to avoid service delays. The waiters were very competent and very helpful but very very busy. The Chefs stepped in and delivered their wonderfully prepared dishes to our table themselves so they wouldn’t sit and get cold until the waiter could get to them. Overall don’t miss a delicious meal at this DC Bistro. Just a short walk behind the Museum of Natural History. I highly recommend the Shrimp Burger! The food was so good I can overlook minor service delays.
Birthday dinner and it was just as outstanding as the first time. I look forward to the next time and will continue to recommend it to friends and family.
