Central Michel Richard
French-Italian food at the heart of DC. Excellent fresh-baken bread. The wine reduction in the short ribs was too overwhelming over the flavor of the meat. The osso buco was soft and delicious. On the desserts, the creme brulee was overdone; the chocolate bar was outstanding.
Love Central but this was not one of the finer dining moments I’ve had there. Waiter poured us more wine after apologizing for the food taking so long to come out of the kitchen. Nice gesture. Food was definitely rushed out. Bok choy was so undercooked I couldn’t even cut it. But I’ll be back because everyone deserves an off night.
Fun. Simple lunch menu - moderately priced. Service was efficient without feeling *rushed.
Always a good place to grab lunch or a drink. I had the burger, which was delicious.
This used to be so nice. Sadly, my burger was dry, my cocktail was tiny and weak, and my server ignored me after bringing me my food. After waiting 20 minutes to get someone's attention, I went into the host stand to get my bill, and no one seemed to care. Sad to see it go downhill like this.
My coworker and I always go to central for our birthday's. We love the food & service
One of the best dinners we’ve had in recent memory. Every dish was delicious, the winds were delicious and our server was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.
Dinner was good. The ambiance was really compromised by the bright lighting which made the dining room feel like a cafeteria. The creme brûlée was dry and dense. Not at all what I’d expect from such a renowned French chef. Overall, a good casual spot for dinner, but not of the caliber it once was.
Still one of the most dependable and delicious restaurants in DC.
Cannot be beat for affordable high-end dining at lunch.
Service was slow and the food wasn’t great. The spring roll salad was very spicy and there was bacon in the Brussels Sprouts even though we asked for it without
The fried chicken lived up to it excellent reputation, just wonderful and the richest mashed potatoes I might have ever had. The surprise treat was the cheese puffs. They came out hot and delicious and in a generous portion easy to share. They serve great coffee too.
Always a nice dining experience!
Food was barely warm. Very disappointed.
food was good and given the lack of alternatives in the area, a good choice for lunch. On the other hand, two sandwiches and one soda should not come to $66 (with tip and tax).
We celebrated our engagement and it was such a special evening. Thank you to everyone!
My favorite restaurant in DC. Consistently exceptional quality and wonderful staff!
Great service. Very enjoyable meal. Recommend the short rib. Would definitely go back.
Miss Michel Richard. He was a great Chef but I cannot be happier that he left behind his vision and a wonderful restaurant. Central is one of my favorite restaurants. It is a modern French restaurant. I have my favorite dishes of course but I venture out sometimes as well. My husband usually tries something different each time. I love their salads. Portions are are large enough for two people especially the goat cheese which is so creamy. The mac and cheese is delicious and I never miss the opportunity to get it. I am a mac and cheese snob so if I say it's good, it really is good. The burgers are great! They are known for the fried chicken too. The gazpacho is light with a cucumber taste. It is the best I have ever had. The banana split is like no other. Large enough for two people. Ask for extra chocolate. Drinks come straight from the south which I love from this French restaurant. I love the bourbon peach iced tea. I also love their Manhattans and think they are the best version. Central Michel Richard is a must. I highly recommend.
Our visiting relatives loved Central’s food, ambiance and service, and relished watching chef roussel and his team create magic.
We only host our visiting guests at Central, and are never disappointed.
Saturday we were asked by a high ranking Government official where to host a visiting President from a foreign country, immediately recommended Central, and are looking forward to hearing the great review.
Good food but the service was not great. Not professional or timely/prompt. Also the restaurant was very dated - looks exactly the same as my last visit in 2010. Time for an update.
The food was not nearly as good as previous times I have been. The short rib pasta and chunks of short rib that were burnt on the outside and crunchy. Not good.
I've always had a good experience here. The food and service are always top notch. It was the last day of restaurant week and we were trying to find a place not too far from Penn Quarter/ Chinatown for brunch. As we were looking at menus, we saw Central Michele Richard had something for all of us. Did we make a great choice! Between the food and the conversation with the AG, this was a great way to start our Sunday and end summer restaurant week
Central remains one of the best values for a Restaurant Week meal, or actually almost any time. Go for the fabulous fried chicken and discover something seasonal, like the gazpacho with burrata. The service is always lovely. Highly recommended for brunch.
We had a fabulous send off to college for our son!! Fantastic evening!
Isabelle is amazing!
Inside of restaurant looks more like a diner and was very noisy. I expected something much more fancy in this location. Outdoor patio was not usable due to afternoon sun and there was no shield (such as plants) from the busy street. Food was not memorable - salmon was too dry and nothing else stood out except for brussel sprouts. Service was very friendly and tried their best but this isn't enough for me to recommend or come back.
I'd read the reviews, but am always skeptical. We (5 guests) had a great meal...the gazpacho, salad, fried chicken and cheese puffs were great!
Food was very good - came out quickly and hot. Service was efficient but not friendly - although that seems to be a Washington DC thing. It is very loud but some may like that atmosphere.
The food was fantastic with excellent service. The only negative was the noise level. It was extremely loud.
I came here around 1:30pm and it was pretty busy. The atmosphere was inviting with moderate noise. Here’s what i ordered: for starter i had yellow tomato Gazpacho with Burrata cheese and it was delicious i finished it till the last drop. For second course I had medium rare hanger steak with peppercorn sauce pairing with Californian Cabernet Sauvignon, the steak was perfectly cooked and a little kick from the sauce that made it even tastier. It was served with a little salad and fries. For dessert I had chocolate lava cake. My dining experience at this place was perfect. I definitely will be back soon.
As usual, the food was quite good. The restaurant week deal was nice. However, it was very loud. Most importantly, the service was sub par. It took a very long time to place our orders. There was a very, very long wait in between each course. My friend asked for pepper from two different servers, and never received it. Finally, it took a while to get our server’s attention for the check. We were both on our lunch break, and returned to work much later than expected. Overall it was disappointing.
The creme brulee and mashed potatoes were the most exciting of all the food we ate.
All of the staff were very welcoming and attentive even though it was Restaurant Week and very busy. We started with some happy hour drinks and cheese puffs at the bar. The fig old fashioned was amazing. Our waiter for dinner was enthusiastic and energetic and really knowledgeable about the whole menu and the different cooking processes for each item. The gazpacho was some of the best I've ever had and you can't beat their fried chicken!
I love this restaurant so much that I’m going back on Saturday night! It’s restaurant week and the menu/value are fantastic. Only problem was the service, very spotty. Also it was my birthday and the hostess and server promised my companion that something wonderful would be done- not. When we were ready to leave the server came over with the tiniest macaroon with a candle in it. That was fine and I appreciated the thought but underwhelmed. Truly LOVED the food though!
Food was excellent, although I seem to have gotten a smaller salad than I have had before since I did not go with their special for restaurant week. It was good and they do cater to your dietary needs as well.
Good not great.
I did not do enough research to understand the food choices and ambiance.
It was more casual and much noisy than I expected.
I visited Central Michel Richard with two friends for restaurant week. I was somewhat disappointed with my gazpacho and avocado toast, but my friends (who got the steak and fried chicken) loved their meals, so I think I may have ordered wrong. The desserts were all excellent. Very cute restaurant with a great happy hour, central location and beautiful outdoor patio. I would definitely recommend the restaurant, but could not recommend my meal.
The famous fried chicken is enough of a big meal by itself -- if you're ordering more than that, share or expect leftovers.
