Central Market Ratings and Reviews
Today is Mardi Gras! Nothing better than celebrate Fat Tuesday at Central Market! The food is always excellent but on Fat Tuesday they make a special menu to celebrate! BBQ Shrimp Awesome! Cat Fish with Dungeness Crab Amazing! Great way to spend a special night with my family. If you can’t be in NOLA second best place to be!
We ordered small plates and our favorites of the night were the cauliflower soup, the jewel beet salad, mussels in a delicious broth and last but not least don't leave without having their homemade Meyer lemon pie.
Great service, everyone was so friendly and the server made us feel welcome as if she was one of our friends.
Good food and service however those wooden chairs are the most uncomfortable I have ever used. Padded seats would be a welcome addition. Don't know what could be done about the noise level of adult chatter in an older high ceiling building. The place was super clean!
Fantastic. Superb. Sublime. Thought provoking and unique. Not a single bad selection on the menu. Not a huge menu but big enough. This chef clearly loves what he does. He even came out and helped us find an exquisite wine by the glass. It was a Riesling. My wife usually loves buttery Chardonnay but this was perfect. Mineral clean lingering smooth after taste - she was surprised. She had scallops I had the wagu steak. We started with the beet salad and polenta crab dish. Shut the front door - it was yummy. Only down side - the table water is OK not bad not great. We ordered a sparkling bottle which I now pick up at the store - I didn’t know it was local. Farm to table at its best. I’m putting this on my Fav list. Bravo!
I used to love the food at Central Market, but it’s always been pricey so I haven’t been there for a long time. It was quite quite disappointing.
The server never cracked a smile and veered very close to the “unfriendly” line. The food was just ok. The flavors of the crab and polenta appetizer were muddled and the lamb shank was almost gummy. Unfortunately, the prices are just as high as I remembered. Just not worth a return trip.
With an outstanding wine list (including wine-by-the-glass selections), and an excellent menu of choices, I would recommend Central Market for any occasion. I made the mistake of forgetting to let the hostess know that I had made reservations, but fortunately there was a table for the two of us. We both had scallops, wine and dessert - fabulous.
I would definitely urge friends who plan on visiting (or living in) Petaluma to make a point to have dinner or lunch at Central Market. It is a wonderful experience - one that you will not soon forget!
My only regret was waiting so long to visit this Petaluma landmark. Start to finish, perfect experience. Arrived early, no problem. Julie was our server near the bar. Very down to earth. Gave us the backstory to the restaurant. Chef/owner Tony has been serving true farm to table fare for 15 years. Great ambiance even with a full house. Spaced well with just chatter and light music in background. I went with the 5 course chef's choice. Wow. I was fulfilled, and full! Tony really walks the house to insure satisfaction. My wife and I traded bites on everything. Bass to lamb, wagyu beef skewers to beet salad, salad to desert; this place rocked it! True 5 star gem.
The food was wonderful! Three of us had fish. The scallops were perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside, tender but not mushy on the inside and the sea bass was incredible. The schnitzel was just as good. The service was attentive without being intrusive. So nice!
Our waitress forgot our set of eating utensils when our dishes arrived on the table. I like other servers who constantly fill our water glass and replace a new carafe of water. A special touch of the owner (I think) to check in by ph and in person with us of our request to make sure to honor it, which I don't find nowadays. We'll definitely to go back to support local business.
We had a wonderful time. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious; I had the lamb shank while my husband ordered a pizza. We shared the bacon wrapped dates and finished with the lime tart. Everything was wonderful. We will definitely return!
Our server was a gem. Funny, well-informed, not pushed, classy and polite. The food was exceptional and creative. The wine was wonderfully paired. The lemon pit dessert was mind-blowing - perhaps one of the best desserts I've ever had. Not too loud, beautiful ambience. Wonderful location. I highly recommend.
Food was delicious. Service: it took awhile before they took our order, and the pacing was off between courses. I ordered an additional glass of wine with my main course, and it didn't arrive until the course was nearly finished. We were also completely finished with our desserts before our coffee arrived...approximately 10 minutes later.
Overall, a good experience but service could be more attentive.
Food was delicious and ambiance was great! Our server, Lisa, didn’t appear to be happy to be working. Her service was prompt, but she lacked enthusiasm for her role and appeared to be tone deaf occasionally as well as a bit snarky. At a minimum, would describe her as chippy throughout service. Towards the end of our meal, we also overheard her rush the table next to us.
We’ve had great experiences otherwise and don’t intend to let Lisa ruin it for us lest she drags down morale among the others. As a side note, in the past we had particularly great service with Christian. Happy to dine at Central Market again—just not with Lisa.
Always amazing! Tony, the duck breast on Christmas Eve was fantastic! The lamb rolls were back, i absolutely love them. Everything was perfect and the atmosphere was festive and warm! Thank you to everybody at Central Market for feeding us this Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve!
Everything was amazingly delicious. One can get spoiled around here since it's easy to find wonderful food made from farm-fresh ingredients. This place goes well beyond that, coming up with extreme deliciousness and originality. The waygu beef skewer and pork cheek starters were knockouts, and I combined them for a main dish. My husband's duck was superb, and my son's pizza so good my husband ate some of it too. Desserts are lovely here - the butterscotch pot de creme and Meyer lemon tart were a perfect way to end the meal.
The only thing that could have been better was that my son's pizza arrived well after other people's dishes. No biggie. Also for some people this might not be considered a cozy place, but that depends on personal tastes.
We'll head straight back next time we're in the area!
