central kitchen is a restaurant in San Francisco’s mission district that creates thoughtfully cooked, locally sourced ingredients from northern California.
Salumeria is a larder that showcases a selection of Italian inspired house-made salumi and prosciutto with a Northern California sensibility.
Amazing meal with fresh ingredients and interesting combinations of ingredients. The Fry Bread with burrata was delicious. Nice wine list and we enjoyed a lovely French Chenin Blanc. Our server was attentive yet subtle and wine glasses kept nicely filled. Nice tunes but music volume should be lower.
Outstanding service. So friendly. Warm. Accommodating. Food excellent. Exciting environment. Neighbor gem.
Only complaint: the soundtrack made conversation difficult.
The food is amazing and every dish was just a hit from the appetizers to the pastas to the meats...great. But...the service leaves something to be desired. I am not a particularly smiley and happy all the time gal in the first place, so I really do appreciate a professional staff who is kind and to the point, but at Central Kitchen I felt like I was bothering the really cool and hipster waiters to provide the basics of service. Again, I don't need fakeness and smiles all around, but read a table would ya...we are celebrating a birthday for a 50 year old and we are happy to be together, so throw some personality our way. This kind of attitude comes from the top down, so I am assuming that the leadership at Central Kitchen does not particularly care about the type of attitude their serving staff throws out...which is a bummer for their long-term success.
Exceptional food, if a tiny bit on the expensive side.
Really excellent food but the service was terrible - super slow, difficult to even get the bill, 3 wait staff came by our table and took orders at different times which caused confusion and mix ups.
We loved everything about this meal. The food was spectacular and the vibe is great. Must get the fry bread with burrata, tuna crudo, duck, and chicken. It's pricey and more of a nice occassion spot, but we'll definitely be back!
Great room and never felt crowded. Was super loud with all the hard services. Pricey menu and limited choices after the roast chicken.
Amazing restaurant. Though casual in nature, the food quality merits a Michelin Star or two. The ratio between food quality and price heavily favors the customer. Run don’t walk to this somewhat hidden diamond!!!
We had a GREAT dinner at Central Kitchen! So glad to have found a great new (to us) place in the Mission. Each dish was delicious and we enjoyed the family-style dining. The ambiance was nice and they had a good wine selection and good service. Will come again, would recommend to a friend.
Beautiful setting, the tasting menu for Valentine’s Day was delicious! However, in the midst of the hustle and chaos the staff forgot our Dungeness crab cappelletti course - the dinner ended, and we realized after leaving it never showed up. The other courses arrived fine, but for a $125/person meal this kind of slip-up was really disappointing. Tried to contact the restaurant afterward, but they weren’t available or didn’t pick up.
The food was great- pasta was fresh and the flavors were delicious. However, the amount of food given in general was far less than I've ever received at any restaurant. My boyfriend and I went for Valentine's Day and we were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour.
The food and service were both very good but... the music was entirely too loud - we could barely have a conversation, and our guests were frozen by the end of dinner because we were seated on the patio near an exterior door that had a stiff breeze blowing under it.
Good food, nice menu and very pleasant staff
I will eat there again
Four of us went for a happy birthday dinner and shared all plates. The music was a little loud at first but either we adjusted or they did, as we were able to converse and hear each other just fine. And the food was DELICIOUS. A little spendy, but that seems to be the San Francisco way.
We live 2 blocks from Central Kitchen. Many great restaurants serve great food here in the Mission. Central Kitchen is unique in that the service is as good as the food. We often order the Tasting Menu with wine pairings ... wow ... and they are always happy to accommodate my gluten free requests.
The food is always outstanding and the service was truly exceptional. Easily one of my top 3 local favorites.
Great food and wonderful service. Enjoyed selection from restaurant week; superb!!
Went for San Francisco Restaurant week 2020. The prefix menu was AMAZING and the wine pairing was on point. Def want to go back!
ALL of the food was fabulous - there wasn't dish one that was even mediocre. Service was excellent.
Only complaint was the noise level. However, we asked that they turn it down and they did - barely.
It took us half an hour to be seated with a reservation. The staff made up for it by comping our drinks and bringing out on the house house appetizers. The food was as good as if not better than it was 7 years ago when I last ate here. So all in all: recommend
The food was so good and came at a civilized pace. My dinner guest was thoroughly wowed.
We went for a birthday and had a great time. The food, service and ambiance were great!
We had an amazing evening at Central Kitchen. Our waiter was helpful and upbeat. The menu is interesting and served family style - so we got to share lots of dishes, although some mains were a small portions but still very tasty. The restaurant layout and design was lovely too. Tables not so close together - which was nice. Fabulous ambience. Can't wait to return.
Four of us did the prix-fixe menu with beverage pairing. Creative, delicious food. I especially liked the use of crunchy textures, which presented another dimension to the food in a surprising, fun way. Portions were very generous.
Attentive, pleasant service. Really fantastic wait staff.
AMBIENCE RUINED BY LOUD, MEDIOCRE MUSIC. I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO USE OBNOXIOUS ALL CAPS SHOUTING TO CONVEY WHAT IT IS LIKE. WHY HAVE MUSIC AT ALL? I WANT TO TALK TO FRIENDS AND ENJOY THE FOOD, NOT LISTEN TO MUSIC. I WILL NOT BE BACK.
Stylishly too loud but our group of 3 (including niece and partner), had a enjoyable meal and all food was delicious. Luckily we were in a booth and could actually talk.
We had a fabulous dinner and great service! I would definitely go back.
Fabulous food! Small menu, but delicious options. The music was around 90-95 decibels, enough for hearing damage after 1 hour exposure. It’s really hot under the space heaters, so the option to reduce the heat would be perfect.
Wonderful dinner...son’s college roommate just moved to SF as an MD, so with their partners six of us enjoyed the myriad offerings, all so creative and delicious. The duck was especially outstanding. Loved the ásperol cocktails. Wish I could remember our server’s name as he was outstanding (dinner 12/2 at a table near the wine bar). This is our ‘go to’ place when my husband and I visit from Chicago. Great food and staff!
Food was great. Initial server was fabulous but then she was pulled off (to don”side work” whatever that is). Replacement server was silent and our mains came quite a bit apart from each other. Overall would have been excellent had our original server been able to stay
I didn't know chicken could taste this amazing. I wish I lived in the neighborhood so this could be my go to spot. Sooooo good!
Crazy loud. I know I’m a Boomer, but so were at least half of the people there. I love the openness of the space and I love the food, but my guest was uncomfortable and will not go back. I will think twice. It’s just too loud.
this was the most delicious meal I have had in recent memory! OUTSTANDING food! best brussel sprouts I have ever had, and I almost always order them at a restaurant so I have much to compare
EAT HERE for sure!
a little crowded and a little loud- not a good place for a large party- BUT THE FOOD-WOW!
Lovely menu the space is gorgeous.
Always terrific! Every detail on the plate is clearly considered, resulting in clean plates for our whole group. We also had a wonderful Italian wine that was reasonably priced.
When I read the ratings for this restaurant I was very excited to try it. After going there, I have to admit I'm a little surprised! The staff were lovely and while it was mostly tasty, the best thing there was the fry bread. The dishes for the price or not extraordinary or particularly fabulous. I would say the tasters menu is the way to go cuz you get to try a little of everything. It was very loud and the music was very modern/hip hoppy and not to my taste. Cool vibe and The Rustic industrial look is very much my cup of tea.
Very good local/sustainable food with few exceptions, set in an indoor/semi-outdoor space that is made to acoustically deafen. Don't go here if you want to speak privately or protect your eardrums. With hard concrete and wood everywhere, the space is an industrial chic dream that is visually beautiful... but with even a few people becomes a cacophonous mess. It was impossible to hear someone 2-3 feet away.
The ambiance is still upscale, though. And you're going to find some exceptional food here. A cheese appetizer was uninspired among our offerings, but the salmon was divine, for instance. Impossible not to enjoy the majority of the food. Service was prompt but nothing to write home about, probably because we also couldn't hear most of it anyway. Again, expect to shout unless you bring your own soundproof booth.
Awesome. Will I return? Probably at a quieter time. The food is very very sustainable!
They try too hard to be special by maximizing the number of exotic or unusual ingredients in every dish to the point that nothing sounds (or based on our limited experience, is) very good. As the Austrian duke said to Mozart in Amadeus, too many notes. If all you are looking for is something different that might work, go here. If you want some assurance that the combination does work, you may want to try something less adventurous.
Overall good. We had a reservation, then were seated late which we were cool with. We then felt rushed to finish.
Jeff our waiter was fantastic! The food was wonderful. Hope to brings friends here for a real treat.
