The food is fine. Small plates though and the pasta wasn't warm enough. Servers were rushing us to finish our meal. They tried to take our plates a few times before we finish our meal. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
The food was unexpectedly great (the restaurant appears more casual than the food ends up being). Really enjoyed it. The only issue was the service, which was VERY slow. We had to ask the sommelier to take our order and there was way too much time between courses. Ended up taking 2.5 hours which is just too long for this kind of dinner. But I'd go back, assuming this was a Sunday night fluke.
This was our first visit to Central Kitchen but our friends had been there a couple of times before which proved very helpful. Given that it is “shared plates” you need to figure out how many from each category. The server stated typically 2 dishes per person however some of the dishes are so teeny that there is not much to share. Overall, every dish was delicious and my only complaint was portion size. We spent close to $100 per person and cannot say we walked away full. However, again, each dish was delicious.
Very attractive space & friendly staff. The food was good but not exceptional & the portions were small & pricey. Unfortunately there was a dead mouse in the front of the door.
Really excellent meal. Pasta was outstanding. All in all very satisfying.
Very laid back vibe and a really helpful staff
I loved this place when it opened and still love the space/ambiance. But the food has gone downhill. The fish/cod was far too salty and just underwhelming. The pork loin was under cooked and terribly fatty. The beet salad was fine but nothing exciting. Disappointing. I hope the food picks back up because I used to love this place.
Good ambiance but are bit noisy. Small portions on the food. Otherwise it was just ok food experience
Too noisy this time. Every table was yelling to be heard with what sounded like 80"s punk at full volume. Really over the top. Ruined the meal.
With our Open Table reservation, we still had to wait 28 mins for our table. Once we ordered, the food came out at odd intervals some 20 mins later, others a few mins with no actual reasonable order. The carrots came out last and were bland. The beef tartare wasn’t tasty. After the meal, my date and I were both sick thoroughout the night. I’m unclear why Central Kitchen has good reviews. Avoid this restaurant!
Was in the neighborhood having coffee and noticed this place. Nice.
Fantastic! Got the "let the kitchen decide" fixed price plus wine pairing. Every course superb. Excellent service. Sophisticated food in a relaxed atmosphere at good value. What else is there to say?
The food was great, clever and very tasty combinations. The interior is cool ( I did like the industrial style fountain). Overall - loved it. It was a little noisy though (probably not the best place for first date), and for me a wee bit cold (but that is jsut me - girl at the next table was fine with wearing a tank top. I will certainly come back...
Everything was really excellent except for the carrots, which were unusual but not so great. A very enjoyable dining experience.
SF Restaurant Week - $65 pre fix dinner
Flew in fromHNL to SFO for SFRW. Central Kitchen did not disappoint! Great food, service and value.
Our experience was fairly mixed. While there were some dishes that were amazing (the beet pasta and the chocolate dessert in particular), many elements of the night were a bit off. The main course was dry (which I assume happened because it was Restaurant Week and they had pre-cooked what they expected to sell), we received one dish on a pottery plate which had a huge chip (silver dollar sized) missing out of it, and the whole meal felt rushed as they kept pouring the wine for the next course when we were barely halfway through the current course.
Overall an ok experience, but overall not a “wowing” meal.
First visit as part of SF Restaurant week. We try a new restaurant or 2 each year. The FIVE course tasting menu was a great introduction. Especially pleasing were the small plates. While everything was particularly good, the stand out for us was the torchino with braised pork & baby kale (a pasta I'd not had before). Wines by the glass were limited but well curated and we had exactly what we wanted. Not a dessert person but ate it all.
The dining room is really a warehouse and we went on a cold night. There were heaters above each table, and we did warm up. The music was a bit loud and the radio captain for the evening was clearly a rocker - not sure it provided for the best ambiance, so be prepared.
Still, I will return.
Went for SF restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised at the volume of food (as the RW tasting menus can sometimes be small-ish) — we left very full and extremely satisfied as everything was delicious.
Perfect all around
It was a night of excellent food. I went for restaurant week and had the tasting menu. Each dish was delicious and we'll presented. And the server was attentive and knowledgeable
Everything was good.
The only thing was the background music they played - selection was okay but it was quite loud in the inner dining room where we sat in the middle. I noticed overhead speakers on all 4 sides centering our table so it was a little difficult to hear our table conversation.
The wait staff was fabulous. Creative dishes with quality ingredients. Cozy feel to it.
A very affable ambiance but was not bowled over by the food. Perhaps a need for a bit more spice.
Every dish in the menú felt like an adventure. Beautifully presented, great taste, meticulous combinations, yet light and delicious. The food was outstanding! The ambience was casual but a bit sophisticated, very Californian.
Restaurant telephone person was superb!!!!!!!!!Service was great. Pasta was not hot
I came from Piedmont for the dinner which is a compliment due to traffic. I visit Flour and Water as well. Happy New Year.....
The food was pretty tasty and nicely plated. We had the steak tartar, squash, the pasta with duck (I forgot what the actual dish was called), and short ribs. Staff was friendly and attentive. Would come back if we're in the area!
service was disjointed. seems that the waitperson on call changed midway thru our reservation without coordination of the team. chefs selections were hurriedly delivered to table without much detail of the items or how they were prepared.
Very Good Food, the tartar was devine! Will come back!
Beautiful environment, wonderful interior decorating, good ambiance and sound travel, I liked the vibe and the location; the service was fine. The food wasn't great. A cold mushroom dish, basic fermented foods, a decent salad and an ever better cold trout dish. Ferments in tiny masonry jars, mushrooms in a wooden bowl, tiny trout on an Ikea plate. There's an old saying, let's not try to reinvent the wheel. Love the place but let's stick to basic plates so all energy and focus can be placed on improving the menu.
