Central Bistro - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I love Central Bistro for lunch and have always sat in the open room near the bar and it's always been delightful. We took our mom to Mother's Day as a group and it was too loud ! We were seated in the other dining room and between the loud music and the crowd we had to shout at each other to talk and that was hard for my 90-year-old mom and for us too. I will always go back I just want make sure I'm seated in the outdoor area
Service, as always, was fantastic. Marius went above and beyond and gave great service. The menu changed and now difficult to know what is/can be made gluten free or vegetarian. Fish was overcooked, dry, not well seasoned. Porchetta was not good-not seasoned, exterior fat was very crispy, but also not seasoned. I've never had porchetta presented in this manner-it looked like intestines. The other flavors on the plate were OK, but couldn't make up for the mess the porchetta was. Pizza was good, as was the cauliflower appetizer and cocktails. Wish the menu hadn't changed so drastically. Won't be back for a long while.
Another enjoyable dinner. I in vited some friends that have never been. I ordered the roasted cauliflower, spinach salad and halibut. The cauliflower was as awesome as the first time and the halibut was better than the swordfish from my first visit. My friend ordered the simple salad which I need to try next time and ravioli special. It looked quite tasty stuffed with ricotta. Then my other friend also tried the cauliflower and is now hooked! He ordered the filet Mignon special, unfortunately it arrived, not quite warm. The server returned it and everything on our plates disappeared. Dessert of the chocolate mousse looked wonderful, which also disappeared.
I went on a date here on a Wednesday night and overall, it's a good spot to go. The decor looks amazing and while it wasn't all that busy, the seating is spaced out very nice. There is a bar area and restaurant area that helps. You could come here on the weekend and be able to have a conversation without being overpowered by noise. Very relaxing.
The only issue is that we did appetizers and dinner and the food was, well....just not that exciting. Not much flavor and it was relatively bland. I was extremely optimistic because the place itself is great. The core of a restaurant is the food though, so sadly it's no at the top of my list.
Central Bistro has been a go-to place for us for all different kinds of occasions. We were worried to hear that there was new ownership. But while it was really, really good before, it is fabulous now! Food has been taken up a notch and the staff/service VERY polished. Some of the same faces, but with new - polish! Keep it up! We had Steak Frites, Filet, Salmon and Roasted Chicken, most of which were favorites on the old menu and the updated versions are outstanding. Best dessert of the night was the chocolate mousse. Very special.
I was able to sit in the bar area - close enough to the bar scene but along the outside wall. Best seat in the house. Enjoyed the wonderful flavors of the simple salad ( flavors and textures) that's not so simple. My server recommended the cavatelli with beef - which was amazing. A simple but flavorful broth makes the dish a favorite. The service was excellent.
We picked Central Bistro as it was somewhere we all had enjoyed in the past. Instead it was so so food. The menu has totally changed and it is no longer a bistro. One of our guests steak which was ordered medium rare was more like medium well. Other meals were okay, but ordinary.
We will not be back.
