Central Bistro and Bar - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I enjoyed Central Bistro. The service was fantastic at both the bar and the table. The menu is good and the food is well prepared. It's not a foodie place, but an excellent choice for grabbing a drink and catching up with friends. Great location when the weather's nice and the windows are open.
The brunch at Central Bistro is easily the best in Denver. Biscuits and gravy, chilaquiles, breakfast burrito, all fantastic. The service on this particular visit was less than satisfactory. The bus boy brought water, but then no server approached the table for 30 minutes. We had to ask one of the countless servers walking by if anybody had our table. They were very apologetic and accommodating after this, but it never should have happened, as it wasn't overly busy. This was our 4th or 5th time at Central Bistro, and the service has never been very quick, but the bottomless mimosas usually make that a non-factor.
One of the best vegetarian dishes I've ever had; believe it was the Roasted Acorn Squash with risotto and asparagus. Absolutely perfect. It's a good thing it tasted so great because we were starting to grow impatient with the wait. Didn't make sense that service was so slow considering it wasn't busy and everyone seemed to be on the patio. Brussel sprouts were good but toffee was too much. Cheese plate was ok but not worth the price for what they give you. My two dinner guests both had the burger and said it was just ok but loved the fries. Overall it was a good dinner that we probably would have thought was a great dinner if the service hadn't been so slow. We were literally poised with our credit cards ready so our server would not have another opportunity to disappear for 15 mins between dropping the check and returning to run the cards.
The food is great and they are wonderful about modifying for food allergies. The service is hit or miss...I have had good service and horrible service where they forgot our order and messed up other plates that had to be returned. They have good customer service so I would go back.
Central needs to step up their game to keep up with Denver's growing food scene. They served my husband an entirely different chicken dish and when he asked the server about it, she said oh, they changed things up that night. It didn't match the description on the menu at all. Service was sloppy and inconsistent and the food was just OK.
Great menu with a good variety of food. We started with the Speck and Burrata. The peas were perfectly paired with spring onion and Burrata. This was a wonderful way of starting the meal. It was just enough to hold you over while waiting for the main course. I ordered the Steak Frites: the Kobe beef was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and was tender enough to cut with a fork. The frites, perfectly fried and crunchy. I loved soaking the frites I the sauce!
Got our drinks right away - ordered two entrees and the brussel sprouts as an appetizer. After quite a while the entrees arrived - lukewarm. We mentioned that we never received the brussel sprouts - they finally arrived after we were finished with our meal. Our third visit - first two were great - this visit was not good.
Went here on a Denver trip with my girlfriend for her 30th birthday; we went during Happy Hour and the appetizers were really delicious! A tad on the pricey side but the shrimp tacos were so delicious I ended up ordering 3, and we got some house potato chips which were great as well! Also had $5 moscow mules which isn't a bad price considering what they're normally priced at during non-happy-hour times. Definitely recommend going during their Happy Hours if you want some good food without breaking the bank! :)
I have been to Central for dinner and brunch and they were both amazing! The food was so good and our server was great. My only feedback would be about the hostess. The hostess was a bit rude. Their food made up for her poor hospitality skills though and we will certainly be back!
Went there on a gift certicate, and will go back. Very interesting menu with some unusual touches. Loved the way they did the calamari - not the same old tough fried stuff, but tender and stuffed with chorizo. Brussel Sprouts appetizer was huge and one of the best I've had. Not too crowded and easy to talk to each other.
I was there with a business contact, and while the food and service were really good, a huge event planning team swarmed in while we were trying to finish our meal to set up an event (Amazon) and from that point forward, we were treated like second-class citizens. Obviously, management knew the event was happening, so they should have seated us elsewhere.
We went here for Easter Brunch. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The food and service were excellent. The french toast was exceptional . We ate inside and the noise level was over the top loud, a real strain to carry on a conversation. We noticed this as soon as we walked in the front door. That was really the only drawback. I would go back but I would sit outside. Overall, very nice restaurant.
We've been here multiple times for brunch before, so we knew the food was going to be good (and it was). We weren't super happy with the service and the overall atmosphere on this specific visit. I'm sure it was just because it was Easter and the place was crowded, but my husband and I could hardly carry a conversation and our waiter on came to take our order and give us our check (never once checked on us). We'll most likely be back, because on normal Sundays this place is great, but for Easter/holidays we won't bother.
My boyfriend and I were catching a show at the Gothic Theater and wanted a fun spot to have a bite before. I found this place on the top 15 places to eat in Denver. We both enjoyed the variety of cocktails and beers. We ordered three appetizers, the cauliflower fritters that tasted a bit oily and had too much lemon aioli on them, the brussel sprout appetizer which was very good but slightly rich, and finally the french onion soup bone. My boyfriend liked this more than I did due to the consistency of marrow, but the flavor was out of the this world. For an meal, I went with the pomegranate salad and he had the steak frittes. The french fries were seasoned perfectly, steak cooked just the way her wanted, and my salad was fresh and delicious.
Having the culinary and restaurant background I must admit I'm usually a harsh critic. This was my first time at Central Bistro and I must say, I enjoyed everything about it. From the food, to the service and overall ambiance of the restaurant. It's located in the heart of the Highlands, Denver, with a great view of the city skyline. Our server was great, and very knowledgeable on the food and drink menu. Will be back to try out sitting in the patio.
Went here for Sunday brunch with my wife and another couple. The endless mimosas are a highlight-really tasty and generous with the refills. Everybody's food was well prepared and just the right portion for brunch. They were popular so definitely make a reservation.
