Celadon - Napa Ratings and Reviews
Service was great. The patio was cozy as expected. The risotto was disappointing. It was a lobster and shrimp risotto, however the vegetables were the dominant character of the plate. The risotto itself which was lacking in flavor. Out of our party of four, half ordered it. Each party had the same experience. I’d recommend a pass next time.
Service - awesome. Some of the best service we’ve had in awhile. Food - good. Petrale Sole was good. Flash Fried Calamari also good. Lobster Risotto, not so good. Bland. No taste to the risotto. And for $38, totally disappointing. Anyway, the experience overall was good. We brought our kids and there is a kids menu here. Great service. Will probably come here again to try the meat dishes, as we came here on Valentine’s Day, which also happened to be Ash Wednesday and did not eat meat.
We’ve heard about Celadon having lived in Napa ourselves, but I was disappointed. I ordered the roast chicken with gnocchi and while the sauce was delicious, there was more gnocchi than chicken, so (at these prices) I felt cheated. Our server, Julie, was extraordinarily helpful and attentive—my generous tip was for her, not at all for the restaurant.
It was Valentines Day and we just wanted a pleasant evening, but we felt rushed as the other table attendants hovered unnecessarily. Given the day, the place was crowded, but we also felt cramped— there was hardly enough room for even Julie to move.
I should say that the berry cheesecake that we had for dessert was the creamiest and most delicious cheesecake I’ve ever had. I don’t know who the pastry chef was that evening, but kudos to her (or him)! It’s too bad the rest of our experience was worth it. There are much better restaurants in Napa. Choose them instead of Celadon.
The staff and management always takes care of you. Every time we dine at Celadon we are impressed and say to ourselves- we need to come here more often. Always a delicious and enjoyable meal. The ambiance is delightful and you leave feeling like you’re part of the family.
A little disappointed in the food, but would definitely give it a second chance. I had an incredibly tough cut of steak (couldn’t chew through the pieces, even though it as cooked to chef’s recommended medium rare), and co-workers chicken was very dry. Crab cakes were great and service was good.
What a great spot in Napa on Main Street overlooking the river. The "meat of the day" was duck and it was cooked to perfection. I started with a small Caesar and added a side of sprouts. A really terrific meal and I took some duck and sprouts back to the hotel for the next day.
We were seated in the main dining area but the patio seemed more active and fun. Our waitress was nice and professional but she was waiting on tables in the main dining area as well as the patio area so there were long waits for her. The menu is limited of choices but the food served was good. Because our table was uneven/unleveled/tipsy and had a padded tablecloth our wine could not be placed on our table so it was placed on a shelf behind us out of reach and we had to wait for waitress to come to poor more wine.
From start to finish celadon didn’t disappoint. Howard, our server was amazing! So was his cocktail. And the food was incredible. The pork belly over noddles was to die for. My only wish was that we would have been able to sit on the patio area, next time I will make sure to request it. Thank you celadon for another great meal!
I strongly recommend that you book elsewhere if you have a group or if you like attentive service. I made a reservation weeks in advance for 12, and that is the number who came. We were seated at a long table and could not really hear each other. I asked the server right away about separate checks and was refused that service, or taking any more than 4 credit cards from us. (This is a problem I have never had before or since, and I have booked many group reservations.) I asked for vegetarian options for one of our guests and were offered just one item, cauliflower "steak." She ended up with the world's smallest cheese plate and a very tiny cup of soup as her dinner. The light overhead flickered endlessly. We would have told our server (and ordered more food for our vegetarian friend) but she NEVER checked on us at any point. Delivery of food was unbelievably slow. Food quality was okay, except that everyone who got the lamb thought it was excellent. Skip the creme brulee, unless you like an overpowering banana taste. We arrived on time at 6 and didn't get to leave until 8:30 pm, and spent most of that time with dirty plates or nothing in front of us. I only got plates cleared by waving both arms overhead at our server. I talked directly to the general manager about all of these problems at the end of the meal and he gave me his card and promised he'd be in touch. He hasn't been.
The ambiance was pleasant, until you are told to go out and two doors down for the ladies room. The tables were very close, so close that we felt we were on a double date with the folks next to us.
Although the service seemed pleasant, staff were almost too available, swarming in if something was placed on the table such as a straw.
Lastly, my message on the reservation stating we were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday was completely ignored.
I had mixed feelings on Celadon. On the positive side service was good, portions were much larger than expected and atmosphere was good (indoor) where i dined, the patio area much nicer. The downside was the food itself, good but not great. Calamari sauce was overly sweet and drippy / watery for my taste. The potato leek soup was okay just not what id expected as a higher restaurant quality. My braised beef stew was underwhelming. The beef was slightly overcooked and rather bland. Portion was generous though. We really wanted to love this place but food trumps everything so we just thought it was okay.
Hey what can I say this place is as tasty as it is classy
I have lived in Napa for 10 years now and Celadon is tops my wife and I recently treated our neighbors to dinner with the magic of Celadon! A perfect evening of great company with amazing service and delicious food and wine! Can’t wait to do it again!
