Celadon - Napa Ratings and Reviews
The ambiance was pleasant, until you are told to go out and two doors down for the ladies room. The tables were very close, so close that we felt we were on a double date with the folks next to us.
Although the service seemed pleasant, staff were almost too available, swarming in if something was placed on the table such as a straw.
Lastly, my message on the reservation stating we were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday was completely ignored.
I strongly recommend that you book elsewhere if you have a group or if you like attentive service. I made a reservation weeks in advance for 12, and that is the number who came. We were seated at a long table and could not really hear each other. I asked the server right away about separate checks and was refused that service, or taking any more than 4 credit cards from us. (This is a problem I have never had before or since, and I have booked many group reservations.) I asked for vegetarian options for one of our guests and were offered just one item, cauliflower "steak." She ended up with the world's smallest cheese plate and a very tiny cup of soup as her dinner. The light overhead flickered endlessly. We would have told our server (and ordered more food for our vegetarian friend) but she NEVER checked on us at any point. Delivery of food was unbelievably slow. Food quality was okay, except that everyone who got the lamb thought it was excellent. Skip the creme brulee, unless you like an overpowering banana taste. We arrived on time at 6 and didn't get to leave until 8:30 pm, and spent most of that time with dirty plates or nothing in front of us. I only got plates cleared by waving both arms overhead at our server. I talked directly to the general manager about all of these problems at the end of the meal and he gave me his card and promised he'd be in touch. He hasn't been.
I had mixed feelings on Celadon. On the positive side service was good, portions were much larger than expected and atmosphere was good (indoor) where i dined, the patio area much nicer. The downside was the food itself, good but not great. Calamari sauce was overly sweet and drippy / watery for my taste. The potato leek soup was okay just not what id expected as a higher restaurant quality. My braised beef stew was underwhelming. The beef was slightly overcooked and rather bland. Portion was generous though. We really wanted to love this place but food trumps everything so we just thought it was okay.
Celadon is our favorite restaurants in Napa. We have eaten there numerous times and are never disappointed. The food is always perfectly prepared and the service friendly and efficient. The enclosed patio with its fireplace and heaters makes it a wonderful place to dine year-around. One of their signature appetizers- Crispy Pork Belly with Watermelon is one of my absolute favorites. It was not on the menu for the NYE dinner. For appetizers we had the Duck Confit Salad and the Crab Cakes, both were excellent. For the main course I had the Half Roasted Boneless Chicken with Gnocchi, Wild Mushroom Ragout and Truffle Oil which was superb! One of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. My husband had the Braised Short Rib Bourguignon which was equally amazing. We had the Lemon Meringue and Pumpkin Cheesecake- both fantastic. The sommelier selected a wonderful Patz & Hall Pinot Noir. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Napa.
Lamb chop was delicious! For dessert, chocolate mousse was average. Indoor seating was a little crowded. We sat directly next to another party of two and the tables were so close together it was as if we were sitting together. Overall the meal was delicious and the service was great! I would highly recommend this place for their food and service!
Amazing food, good service and great ambiance. We sat in the "garden" which is under a clear tent in winter - but with the heaters it was like being inside. Actually, it has a totally different vibe than inside - better for groups. Wonderful menu to satisfy any taste and great wines as well. My family and I had to laugh when they put the warm bread on the tablecloth - but we found another restaurant that did the same - must be a Napa thing.
Complacent. We were looking forward to dining at Celadon. Unfortunately, the experience did not match our expectations. The food was good, not great. (The endive salad and sweet onion soup were very good). However, we certainly were not made to feel in any way special. After getting our appetizer quickly, we waited a long time for the salad and soup and at least 30 minutes for our entrees. We then sat for another long period of time waiting for our plates to be cleared. The staff seemed completely indifferent to our experience. We won't be back.
Celadon is one of my all time favorite places. I often do a birthday dinner here and this year I brought my staff here for our holiday luncheon. It was absolutely perfect. Our group of six was well cared for, our food was amazing, and the service was spot on. When you go, don’t miss their calamari. It’s the talk of the town.
First time diners & we had a delicious meal.
Menu selections were extensive & it was difficult (in a good way) to decide what to choose.
We started with the endive salad & a cup of the tomato soup. Great for sharing & tasty as well.
I had the spare ribs which were tender & very favorable. Partner had the filet that was there special steak that night. Also excellent.
Creme Brulee for dessert & what as not to like about the whole evening!
Would certainly return!
PS: Service was 'spot on'.
Thanksgiving meal for two of us included salad, one roll, 3 slices turkey breast with mashed potatoes and stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce. Gravy on the side. The service was very good. Attentive and fast. We were seated on time. We really enjoyed our food. It wasn’t a lot and it was a bit expensive. $68.00 per person. We took our pie home and it was delicious. I really like Celadon, it’s close by with free parking, unlike , SF, where in addition to our meal we would need to pay for parking or transportation. I will return for the regular fare.
