   It was an off night on the food and service. I think they were understaffed, don’t know where to begin; we had to get our own cutlery and plates for dessert for example. The burger was good but the swordfish was almost inedible. The drinks were excellent though and ambiance was wonderful.

   The food here would be terrific if it were at least warm. The protein is hot but the fancy stuff under it is cold—over and over again. Got to order something without the fuss.

   This is the only high class French bistro in Newburyport and you expect that kind of meal when you go because it’s expensive. We both ordered duck and it came out cold. We asked our waitress, who was very nice, to tell the chef to reheat it. When she brought the plates back, none of accompanying greens that were on the first plate, were on our second plate. Bottom line… We felt the meal was not freshly prepared. On a good note, the Beaujolais Villages was delicious.

   Amateur and incompetent service. Assumed I wanted dry champagne, even though I asked for the profile of all the champagnes listed on the wine and beer list. Speaking of which, it was very expensive in general. Not a wide variety of price points. And when the waiter brought the $100 bottle of champagne, he neglected to bring an ice bucket. Took his time to bring bread, etc, etc.... And the menu was heavy on prosciutto and cheese. Very few vegetarian options, so forget vegan choices.

   Most of the food was tasty but the $34 scallops came with no side - 5 scallops on the plate with sauce and no rice, pasta or anything. Not enough food even for half the price. The $22 individual pizza was bland but was the only option my sister could eat after she was told they were out of the special (lobster) and swordfish. Ran out of cabernet sauvignon... waitperson was nice but she did not replenish our bread or our water and took way too long (almost 45 minutes) to ask if we wanted another drink. I was disappointed as it was for a birthday celebration.

   One out of three meals was very good. My burger and fries were cold, and the salad my wife had had brown lettuce. They offered to replace the meals, but that just takes too long. They comped the two meals, but at the end our waiter made a snide remark to my wife about how much of the salad she did eat after removing the brown lettuce. That was her only meal and none of his business. I contacted Ceia via their website, but never heard back. They also kept saying how busy they were, but were 2/3's full at the most. Never going back.

    Comfortable seating and great atmosphere. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Will be back to try their brunch
