We had an opportunity to sample both breakfast and dinner at Cedar and Elm during our recent stay at the Lodge. Breakfast was excellent. My kids enjoyed the beautiful yogurt parfait and French toast. The fresh juices were refreshing and coffee on point. Encouraged by breakfast and the advice of the friendly bartenders downstairs (very nice bar program btw,) we decided to return for supper. It happened to be Bastille Day, and the restaurant was serving a full secondary menu of French bistro classics paired with a nice selection of French wine. Live music by a piano-vocal duo was a fun touch. The dining room is beautiful, and with small kids in tow, I appreciated how unstuffy it was despite the elegant ambiance. Service was excellent. The classic preparations on the Bastille Day menu were family-friendly and satisfying. We all enjoyed the perfectly executed mussels, salad Lyonnaise with chicken thigh, and a tender steak bavette. My youngest also got chicken tenders and fries off the extremely reasonable children’s menu—basic, but the fingers and fries were delicious too! We adored the flatbread with “dirty dip,” the flavorful pork belly, and especially the sablefish from the regular menu. For desert, a classic profiterole and an honestly mind-blowing honey and porcini crème brûlée with pickled lingonberries (probably the best rendition I’ve ever had). We’re so happy we decided to dine here at the last minute. The food was tasty, thoughtful, and joyfully local (very local, in some cases—there’s a culinary garden right behind the hotel.) Next time we’re in the area we’d love to return for the tasting menu. Highly recommend.

First off my family loves Cedar and Elm and have had many pleasant brunches and dinners. I’ve had afternoon tea here before and knew what to expect (and afternoon tea is my go-to social event with my daughters). The setting is lovely and the guitarist a nice touch. That said, this time our afternoon was disappointing. The food was odd. Most everything was dry (except the crumpet- which was surprisingly eggy and the cucumber sandwich, which was surprisingly wet). There was a menu but there were several items on the tea trays that weren’t listed. A clump of whitefish with some salted Persian cucumbers? Not in the menu and just odd. We listed some dietary restrictions on our reservation and when we pointed out something on the tray that we can’t have the server took it- but left some of its filling behind. It was replaced by a turkey and cheese sandwich- one that I would have put in my kids’ lunch. For $200? I know they can do better (we would have been happy with half the number of items done well).

The building and dining room are spectacular, and absolutely worth a visit. Our waitress was terrific; knowledgeable about the menu and attentive without being intrusive. She recommended the fried cauliflower which was absolutely fantastic. I'm afraid that my entre was not good. The meat was tough and unpleasant to eat and the sauce was so over-seasoned, it was easy to just stop trying. The vegetable accompaniment was fine. It too was over-seasoned for my taste, but that may have been the sauce overflow from the protein. The fish my friend ordered was good and she enjoyed her meal. The prices were high, but not terribly out of line for the beautiful setting. That said after spending so much, it was frustrating to eat a second small dinner at home, since I was not able to eat much of my entre.

Great service food was good. I ordered one of the pasta dishes. I was dissatisfied with the lack of any salad on the menu and the general low amount of choices for vegetarians. For almost 30.00 I would expect a few more ravioli in my bowl and maybe a piece of bread or small salad to go with it. That being said, what did arrive was tasty and I guess I didn't have to worry about overeating. I think if you are into drinking alcohol this would be a great place to go. Pages and pages of options for drinks. Although food was good I wouldn't eat there again. Just not enough choice and to high of a price.

We decided to sample all of the menu items. Our server, Angel, was accommodating even though it was more work for him. We loved every main course, but the Sablefish won the evening.

A lovely spot for a quiet breakfast meeting. Really enjoyed it. The menu was varied and included vegan options, which was very welcome.

They have a restaurant here but they don’t really want to. It gives off big, I don’t want to be here vibes from the staff. We had a reservation and they tried ignoring us to get out of seating us. I’m serious!
