Fan favorite. Smoked beef brisket dressed with a tangy BBQ sauce, melted cheddar cheese, pickles, and crispy onion straws on a toasted parmesan-butter onion roll
Full rack with coarse-ground, robust black pepper house rub; full rack smoked 8 hours daily
Special St. Louis cut and peeled pork ribs; fattier with more bones & meat, rubbed and smoked for six hours daily
Went out to celebrate birthdays and decided to try CAYA. the food was amazing and the portions are generous! Staff was awesome too. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
Hello, thank you so much for your exceptional review of CAYA Smokehouse. We are so glad you enjoyed our food with us. I thoroughly agree that our staff is awesome. I am so happy that you think so too! We look forward to seeing you again!
I am from Jersey and I was in town for a youth hockey tournament. I didn’t want to eat at any more chain restaurants and I was thrilled to find this family owned Barbecue restaurant. So, 8 of us drove 30 min to eat here. Our waiter was hysterical!!!!!!! Made our experience even better. I think he escaped from a comedy club. Try the El Stugotz cocktail it is spectacular. We had the burnt ends, candied bacon, and the Mac and cheese for apps. The waiter recommended their signature pork belly pork chop with chimichurri and it was delicious.
The decor is very rustic and friendly. Give it a try! It’s worth the drive.
Hi there, we are so happy that you enjoyed your experience with us last Saturday! Your group was receptive and very fun. I was happy that we were able to move you inside. We concede: Marty is thoroughly entertaining. Next time you are in town please don't hesitate to stop by. Cheers!
The food was excellent, but I was disappointed with the food presentation. It was not presented like the pictures on their website. I was expecting a more gourmet experience rib shack. I know how that sounds, but I thought that was going to make this place different from some of the other places I've been. Food being served on picnic wax paper was just more of the same.
Hello Dion, thanks for your fair review of CAYA Smokehouse. I understand your distinction between web photos and the items you received. I have inferred from your mention of the checkered paper that you ordered the Smokehouse Dinner. This item is not pictured on our site, and features an exceptional variance in presentation from our smoked meats and hot sides. I would suggest more of the main course entrees to enjoy the atmosphere predicated by our pictures. We look forward to your next visit!
Loud music for a Wednesday evening but food was pretty good - Burnt Ends were amazing!
Hi Samantha, I am sorry to see that the ambiance outweighed your appreciation of the service and food at CAYA. We try to have fun here. I was working behind the bar on the Wednesday that you were dining with us, and I would concede that the music was a little off kilter. I remember trying to get around to switching it from the electronic dance music that was playing, but it was too busy at the moment of my attempt. I hope that you are able to come try us again sometime soon. Thank you!
Great dinner with friends during a visit to the greater Detroit area. Will definitely go back to CAYA Smokehouse.
Great food and service!
Hi there, we are delighted that you enjoyed your dining experience with us. We seek to provide a unique experience for our guests on every visit. Please come try some more of the menu with us again sometime in the near future!
This is a very casual place that was fun, so noise was a bit of a plus. The beer choices were great. The staff was quite welcoming and engaging. The food choices were what you'd expect at a casual barbecue spot, but the quality was much higher. The pork ribs were tremendous, with an excellent rub that we found out was home made. The brisket was fantastic too. The barbecue sauces were surprisingly varied and tasty. Having spent time in Texas (which IMO is THE standard for BBQ) CAYA would rank respectably against BBQ anywhere.
We ordered the Tomahawk, 1/2 slab ribs, Mac cheese and cornbread. Food has little to no taste and was heated in the microwave. I do not recommend eating here.
Lmao. Heated in the microwave? Not true. If the dishes you had were not up to your expectation I wish you would have mentioned it. We take pride in the Pork Belly Tomahawk Chop with fresh chimichurri and cheddar grits. It's a true staff favorite. What did you find distasteful? Many regular guests adore the ribs and mac & cheese. Please offer criticism while dining with us instead of stating false accusations on a third party site. Call management. We will try to make it right. Thank you.
We love Marty. Go OSU
Great place will definitely be back! Kim was awesome!
Kim is the greatest! We are so happy you had a good time with us, Brian. We are looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon!
Cold food, slow and not really enjoyable.
Second time here. Enjoyed equally as well both times. Good service. Up north atmosphere. Kale salad - both time, very good ! Ribs and other sides have been really good also. Fair value, decent sized portions.
Tried 6-7 dishes, and they were all way above average, compared to takeout bbq we’ve had recently. The brisket was amazing, and the sauces were delicious and unique. The chef and his staff are all kind and passionate about what they do. The Joy Division & other 80s music is a real mood, too!
Hey Scott, We are so happy that you were able to come in and enjoy our food with us. At CAYA we strive to create a fun and personable atmosphere; I'm elated that you picked up on that. Choosing a wide selection of our menu is the way to go! I would love to hear more about what you got to try and listen to any improvements that you might suggest to us. Please feel free to reach out to me at Alexander@cayagrill. We cannot wait to have you join us again!
This was our first time at this restaurant! Was a nice gem, especially liked the patio ambiance!
Food 5/5, we ordered:
Apps: Korean BBQ ribs
French Onion Soup
Half pound of beef brisket
Full Slab of Ribs (very generous & meaty portion)
Jalapeños Corn Bread
Mac & Cheese
Total Pre Tip: $90
Would definitely come back. The staff , all, were super pleasant, quick and attentive! Could overhear other wait staff and all were engaging with their tables, very kind!
Disappointed in the food. Unable to get ribs as 30 minutes after being seated I was told by our server they were out. Brisket I got as a replacement was just ok
CAYA is a little of the main thoroughfare and wasn’t overly busy.
The parking is to the back of the building and the lot needs work and parking lines, but it’s all good. Just a sense of walking up.
We walked by a very small and awkwardly placed greeters table to the right. Never saw the poor girl and thought we had to walk to the front/street side entrance.
Dining areas was good sized for indoor area, but seemed oddly arranged and table sizes didn’t fit the space. The greeter sat us down in front of the kitchen door, worst place to sit someone.
There’s a cool looking screened in patios seating area too, but it was really humid out.
Waitress was prompt and nice. Service was quick, almost too quick as we barely finished our apps. Food was good, big portions. Too many fries to be honest.
Taste-wise everything was really good. For a family of 4, 2 apps, 4 beers, 4 entrees, over $100. Seemed pricey based on being Famous Dave’s comparable….
We’ll be back to try it again. First pass for me was a B, B-
Hello Sean, I really appreciate you taking the time to express your opinions about C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill. Much of what you mentioned is sentimental to our perspective from a managerial standpoint, save the comparison to Famous Dave's (our food is significantly better). As new owners in this building, we look forward to creating enough capital to update our parking lot; branding and atmosphere will also continue to undergo gradual scrutiny. Thank you so much for your patronage and support!
Reservations were very easy to make. Got right in and had a very pleasant and helpful waitress. Food came out fast and was very, very good. The recently had a swap in ownership, but the quality has not gone down. There homemade bbq sauces are fantastic. Our waitress had convinced us to try a fried Oreo dessert that was decadent. Had a great time. One of our favorite places. Will definitely be back
We were pleased with our experience and loved our waiter Adam. He was personable and friendly and the food was really good. The ribs were a bit salty, but mac and cheese and greens were the best.
Hello MelvaA, We are so happy that you found your service to be amicable. Since your visit our St. Louis-style ribs have been honed and revamped to meet the expectations of our guests. I would encourage you to try them again, however, since you seemed to find our food to be generally worthwhile, there is no shortage of great menu options for you to try on your next visit. Thank you so much!
Our wait for our salads was an hour after we were seated. Cook dropped an half slab of ribs on floor didn't have anymore. Then to top it off our food was cold. The street corn 🌽 was very good. Not going back.
We got there 10 minutes early, had a drink at bar and were seated on time. A little slow service, took 2 hours for dinner but everyone was pleasant and we we not in a hurry.
Hello, thank you so much for joining us for dinner last Saturday at C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill. I appreciate the honesty of your review, and we understand that kitchen order times were excessive on the day of your visit. Our small and newly trained kitchen staff strives to consistently and regularly fulfill orders under 20 minutes, and in this period of post-pandemic demand we will continue to aspire the satisfactory service that you deserve. We look forward to exceeding your expectations soon.
Great food! Excellent service!
Food was amazing but we had to do a lot of waiting to order other items if we wanted
After an hour and half of waiting for food we walked out. Beware.
Hi Gary, thanks for your review. The items you ordered were at 49 minutes when you walked out. We strive to keep our ticket times under 20 minutes, but on the Saturday you visited we had a cook quit and were operating at 5% labor with some conflicting catering requests. The patience of our patrons was rewarded with fresh fare; however, your food was wasted, and your items had to be comped. In any regard, we appreciate your interest in our restaurant and hope you can come visit some other time..
Some food items were good, corn bread, tater tots, onion rings, bbq sauce selection. The ribs were very fatty. The coleslaw was too bland. I know restaurants are in dire need of help but the service was awful. Our waitress had way too many tables, took forever to get drinks, food, the check. We were disappointed.
Hi Leslie, we smoke our ribs for six hours, and then we braise them in jus to render the fat, however, generally a full slab of babyback ribs contains about 190 grams of fat after being cooked. If you would like to try a leaner pork option with us later this summer I would definitely suggest our new pork chops. They are delicious. Thanks for understanding that our service staff is very limited amid this tumultuous pandemic era. We look forward to rectifying your expectations on your next visit.
This was my first experience dining at Come As You Are (CAYA), and it was great! Our server, Marty, was very attentive and friendly. I had the braised short rib. It was SOOO tender and juicy! We will be back!
Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words and review of our new Braised Short Rib entrée. We are delighted that your first visit with us was so wonderful. Your generous review and patronage is greatly appreciated. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Love CAYA grill, brisket is my absolute favourite!
Baby back ribs were half fat. The short rib was better. Service has kinks to workout. It has potential but needs work.
Hello Dee, we love our Short Ribs here, and generally babyback ribs are a fattier option. Thank you for your understanding that our limited staff does everything that we can to guide and tailor your experience. We look forward to your future patronage and living up to the potential that you see in our business. Cheers.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Enjoyed every bite...
Hi Marlan, thank you so much for your reservation at CAYA on mother's day. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time. Please come visit us for dinner again soon!
It was a delicious Mother’s Day brunch! And the drinks were yummy too.
Hi Alexandra, we are so pleased that you could visit us for mother's day brunch service. I am delighted that you enjoyed your time. We hope to see you again for dinner soon!
As always the food was phenomenal. We tried many other brunch places while cayas was closed and nothing compared. We were so excited to go back for my 1st mothers day. It was awesome. Love the staff. The food. And the drinks. It is always a great experience.
Hi Celeste, thank you so much for dining with us on mother's day. We look forward to having our Sunday brunch regularly available again very soon. In the meantime, please come see us again for dinner service. Ask for our general manager, Alexander; your patronage is greatly appreciated.
The food and service made our experience very nice. We will back
Only the basement was open, only a couple,of,items available. After quite a long time for a server to,come over, he told us the chef quit without notice. I appreciate the honesty, however if I would have know that up front, I wouldnt have wasted my time. Hopefully, things will change and we can try again
Thank you for your visit. Unfortunately, the only way that you would have had an existing reservation on this date was through our OpenTable experience, "Speakeasy Saturday," which is exclusively in the Billiards Room. Between April 23th and May 8th our dining room was closed due to pandemic staffing. Please come back and try our new, full dine-in menu as soon as possible. Cordial regards.
1st Time Eating @ C.A.Y.A. Smoke House Grill. Loved the atmosphere, the employees, & the food was amazing!!!
Basic food was ok. Cocktails were really bad
Order a beer. Desserts weren’t great either
Our waitress tried to make up for it best she could
Excellent food and drinks. Generous portion sizes. Great flavors and tons of options.
We were seated outside. It took too long for our waitress to come to our table and she mostly acted like she was doing us a favor. Also, this is a bbq place, so we asked for bbq sauce but we were simply given three squeeze bottles from a dirty table next to us that had just been used. In the Covid era, giving us items touched by other customers is unacceptable.
Hello Elmo, our protocol for cleaning barbecue sauce includes a three-step sanitation process. Obviously, you did not risk using dirty sauces, so we trust that the server attended to your need for a clean space. We are happy to do you the favor of providing a sensational dining experience, and we consider your personal interpretation of the waitress as indignant to be a grave concern. I hope that on your next visit we can provide a more comfortable ambience and service.
Not a cornbeef lover, but their cornbeef was the moistest best flavor I have ever tasted. It was amazing.
Hello, thank you so much for your honest and positive review! We look forward to being your go-to for corned beef dinner next St. Patrick's Day (and maybe sometime before then).
Food was great! Bummed that they were out of smoked chicken and beef brisket by 6:00pm on a Saturday.
Hi, Marybeth, we are so happy you were able to find something else that you liked here! Our Chef and small kitchen staff does its best to provide an ample selection of delicious food; we will up the ante on Saturday nights with you in mind.
Fantastic food and service. This was my first visit, but I will definitely be heading back. Waitress was so helpful in recommending what to order. Mustard sauce is a must!!!!
Awesome gem of a restaurant hidden away from the thronging crowds of the Metro area. Post-industrial interior with a warm, familiar feel. Food was amazing and fairly priced.
