Very tasty meal. Requested an extra side which was not charged. No need to continue as they are closing in a few days.
Great food and presentation. However, the restaurant was so dark (especially where we were seated) that we couldn't even read the menu without using our phones as flashlights. The bar is in the next room from the main restaurant and as a result the noise level was pretty high, and more than I would've liked for an upscale restaurant. Music and applause meant that patrons in the restaurant had to speak loudly in order to converse and contributed to the volume. Service was good and wait time was reasonable. Menu was a bit limited, but varied and as mentioned was delicious. Large wine selection, even though many were well-outside our price range the final check was actually less than expected. Considering the new ownership I would probably chalk some of the minor complaints to growing pains that will work themselves out. Overall I'd certainly go again and would recommend.
Too bad it is closing!
Have been going to Cavey’s since 1974. Still the best. Will miss this place. Good luck to Geno.
Overall a nice dining experience. The food was excellent. Perhaps priced a little more that I would usually spend. I expected that. We arrived early in the evening and were seated at a perfect table.
On the whole the service also excellent. There seemed to be a pricing strategy with the three wine lists. Giving us the most expensive first and so on down. Some confusion over that.
There was a problem with the very loud live music in the bar area coming into the dining area. In some parts of dining area it is also a little dark. I saw one woman reading the menus with a flashlight.
Have not been to Cavey's in almost 30 years. I dined with a friend and my overall experience was wonderful. We both had the Chicken Francaise which was exceptional. I had two glasses of the Pinot Noir which was one of the nicest wines I've experienced. I will be back with my husband in the near future.
I love this restaurant I am sorry its closing always had a great dinner every time I went thank you for a five star experience
Cavey’s is a wonderful place to celebrate special occasions! The food, service & atmosphere is exceptional.
The food was great. The restaurant is closing forever in 3 weeks. Open Table got a ZERO for this..... we made reservations here and another restaurant and overnight we got emails that THEY WERE CANCELLED (not by us).... Further, after the time of the reservations we got emails that our reservations were missed because we were no-shows. What's going on there?
Tables are way too close together so you can have no conversations without neighbors overhearing and vice versa. Server took a used knife off plate and put it back on table rather than bringing a clean one for next course. A couple sat down at a table. Shortly thereafter, they got up and left. Server too their used napkins and set them back up for the next person rather than getting new, lean ones. For an expensive restaurant, that is pretty disgusting.
Many thanks to past and present staff(front and back) for years of great food and great memories. And to Steve C for decades of consistently great food and service.
I'm so sad to see this iconic restaurant closing and glad we were able to experience Cavey's for the last time.
We sat there for over two hours after ordering dinner and still not received food. Left without eating (a $50 charge for a couple of drinks)
Great food and ambience but poor service. We heard others in the restaurant also commenting about not being happy with the service that evening.
Food was awesome as per usual but the kitchen was very slow and the waitstaff overburdened
The restaurant is closing so we went for the last time for some out of state friends.
We had an excellent meal at Cavey's as usual. My wife's rigatoni bolognese was excellent as was my Halibut and my dessert. Service was very good but a bit slower than usual, as it was very crowded the night we went. We have been dining at Cavey's for over 30 years, and unfortunately this will be our last dinner there are they are closing on May 24th. Thanks to Steve and Kate for having such an outstanding restaurant all these years, and best of happiness to them in their well deserved retirement from Cavey's.
We have been patrons of Cavey's for almost 40 years. It is not one of the restaurants we dine at most often, but is among our favorites for consistently great food and service. We were/are very sad that the restaurant is closing in 2 weeks and, like many others no doubt, wanted to have one last meal there before it closed. The food was still great, but the service was horrible. My wife and I arrived for a 6pm reservation and ordered promptly. The place was busier than usual for midweek but certainly not full. We ordered wine, shared a salad and each had a pasta entrée. No appetizers or dessert or coffee. We did not dawdle, yet we were there almost 2.5 hours. Worse, other parties arrived and ordered after we did but got served before us, the service was basically random. It's sad because Cavey's is so iconic, it deserves a better finish than this.
Wish it was staying open. If you want amazing Italian or French eats - this is the place to go.
Not sure if we just hit a bad night for the kitchen, but we waited at least an hour for our meals. The dining room did not overly seem crowded, but we waited what seemed like an extraordinary amount of time - and watched several tables get their food and desserts- while our waitress was no where to be found. Disappointed sums it up best
Our server was great, kitchen was backed up from large birthday party so that’s the 4 star.
This will be my last time there since they are closing on 5/24/2019 the food was unbelievable. Whats coming will never live up to Cavey's.
Excellent food. Greer service. Dining room (French downstairs) was elegant but a little dated.
We had a disappointing dining experience in the upstairs part of the restaurant. The food was good but the portions were small. Homemade Burrata is supposed to be rich and creamy... not hard and rubbery. The service was slow even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. The attentiveness of the server was lacking, not asking us if we needed anything else when the dinners were served. When we finally got someone’s attention for grated cheese and pepper, it was brought to us when our dinners were more than halfway done. We won’t be rushing back.
My girlfriends and I ate at Cavey's on Saturday evening, April 27. We had an early reservation (5 p.m.) so there were not many people in the dining room at that time, which was very nice. I have known about Cavey's for many years and when my friends asked for a recommendation in the Manchester area, Cavey's immediately came to mind because of their reputation for wonderful food in a relaxes, yet upscale ambience. We were a bit disappointed when we were asked for our drink order to be told that there was no special cocktail list because the spring menu was "being worked on and the main bartender was not there that evening". The last page of the drink menu where the specials would normally be featured was actually missing - a blank page. We thought that this was quite odd. Use the winter specials, maybe? I'm not certain why this would occur. In any case, we ordered a bottle of wine which was lovely, and the appetizers, meals and desserts were outstanding. My chicken francaise was very tasty albeit a bit too salty. At the end of the meal, we split the check three ways. Our tab was $210 (est.). When the waitress returned with our split checks, each of us had been charged $115 - pre-tip. We called the waitress back and she apologized and re-ran the cards, assuring us that since the previous $115/person charge was still pending that it would not be on our statements. My one friend said that both charges appear on her statement, so we are hoping that this resolves itself within the next 24 hours. The waitress was very pleasant but a little nervous throughout our service. I would definitely return to Cavey's both those two things - the lack of a cocktail menu (along with a lame excuse for it) and the overcharge on the bill just seem like something that would occur at a much less seasoned restaurant.
So sorry to say Cavey's is not what it use to be.
I have been there a few times recently & the food has progressively declined. The chicken francaise sauce had ABSOLUTELY no taste & the amount they charge is why to much for the food portions. Extremely disappointing.
Enjoyed a quiet meal. Service was great as was the food.
The food was excellent and the ambience was very quiet. The staff was very attentive. A bit expensive but definitely worth it if you are looking to have an enjoyable evening with good food and good wine.
The food was delicious, but service exceptionally slow. Our reservation was for 6 pm and our entrees were not served until 7:30 pm. We were told that there was a problem with the kitchen staffing. We were comped the beverages we ordered to make up for the delays. In all fairness, this problem is very unusual for Cavey’s.
The food was outstanding! The steak was amazing, pasta's were unbelievable and make sure you try the specials of the day. We are foodies and travel frequently from the west coast to the east coast and worldwide. I highly recommend the food and drink. The service was hit or miss depending on your wait staff...our waitress really did not know how the special lobster pasta was prepared and deserts took over 20 minutes. We will return again when in the area. Every dish was great!
Seating was comfortable and cozy. Entire meal was excellent from appetizers to desserts. My son especially enjoyed the lamb and we all enjoyed Grandma's ravioli! K was an excellent server and allowed us to want for nothing. It is a special place for special occasions.
Friday evening with piano music and song coupled with good wine, artfully plated exquisite food was the perfect answer to a long work week.
Been going for years and have never been disappointed.
This is quite a gem. We choose the downstairs (French) dining room which was elegantly furnished as one might expects. We were the first guests to be seated and had undivided attention from the server and staff. We choose the five course tasting menu with wine pairings. Although the restaurants wine cellars boast an extraordinary list of wines and prices, we were given the offer of relatively inexpensive wines which were chosen to complement the food in each course. There was even a bit of sauterne with the dessert soufflé! While service was excellent, our server was a bit more chatty that w might have licked on a romantic evening. I suspect others may find that very friendly and charming.
This has quickly become our favourite place for a special occasion (like a romantic dinner)!
Cavey's has been a mainstay in the Hartford area for decades and continues to delight. Recently, my wife enjoyed the swordfish, which she declared "Outstanding!", and I enjoyed the gnocchi, which was fabulous. Service was pleasant and efficient, as always.
There are very few restaurants offering a traditional ambiance that's relaxing and subdued; most provide a bistro atmosphere that's more active and boisterous. It's nice Cavey's provides such an alternative with a pianist playing dinner jazz music in the background.
Family dinner with our kids and grandkids
Wife had swordfish says it was the best she ever had, I had the seafood chopping and it was excellent. Soup to desert everything was excellent.
Love, love Cavey’s. Had Father’s risotto and the Pork . Outstanding right down to the fresh peas! My husband had Grandmothers ravioli and as always they were light and delicious. He made the mistake of ordering the steak. As he said, if you go to an Italian restaurant, order Italian, and right he is. Great restaurant and the pianist on Friday nights is wonderful.
The last two times we have been there: January my husbands lamb three ways was burnt. This past Friday veal was tough. Waited 45minutes for soufflé and coffees. They never arrived. Waitress apologized but really she didn’t check for 45minutes?
My date and I had the most wonderful experience at Cavey's on a quiet Sunday evening. The service was outstanding and the attention was just right. As a special occasion, we were greeted by George, and were treated with that ' little extra ' that made the night very special. The appetizers and entrées order were 5-star, taste and presentation. Along with wine and desert, that also was excellent, we left with sincere smiles and handshakes...and an apple !
