Ordered a two cheese plate and received a pile of blue cheese a smear of tapenade and three pieces of bread and three carrot slices. Both my fiancée and I hate blue cheese but will eat any other kind imaginable. We told our server and he said sorry about that. So paid 16$ for zero cheese on his birthday. Enjoyed our drinks although the first round we ordered were the wrong thing. We’ve been to eat here at least 7 times but may not come back for
We enjoyed a delicious family dinner for 7 in their private dining salon - everything about the mansion gives a nostalgic and elegant vibe. Sure to impress out of town guests and incredibly comfortable for locals. There was something for everyone on the menu -- for our foodies grilled leeks and skate, and for our traditionalists, a fancy take on fried chicken and burgers. The bar area upstairs was cozy and delightful and would be a perfect stop for appetizers or dessert. The porch is pure NOLA and, weather permitting, would be a fantastic place to dine, too. Wish they had a vegetarian entre' option.
First date with a beautiful woman and everything we were looking forward to eating was 86’ed. They did not have. And the menu is as small as Raising Canes menu. And Raising Canes chicken is worlds better and 1/4th the price. Will not return and do not recommend. My cocktail was 2 sips. If it wasn’t a first date, I would have spoken with a manager about the meal and drink. Best part of the night was driving away knowing I’ll never return.
Outstanding and innovative meal on the front porch at Cavan. Pickled eggplant, leeks and crab salad were divine and followed up by skate wing and house burger, perfection. Finished off with a shared piece of delicious key lime pie. Fresh flavors that popped. Staff was friendly, helpful and gracious. Definitely a place to go again and again. Hope to see y’all on our next trip to New Orleans.
Wonderful food, good service, and pleasant ambience. We will return and be sure to bring some guests.
Beautiful venue, outstanding service, but the menu is very limited and the food does not give credit to the neighborhood which is full of outstanding restaurants. Cavan desperately needs a new chef!
We loved this experience! We dined for brunch and were immediately greeted by friendly faces. Our server, Christiana, was funny, great personality and put up with our jokes as well.
We enjoyed our heirloom salad appetizer and our cocktails (Rose Sangria, Uptown 75, Milk Punch).
The location is killer- old home with beautiful adornments in the garden district.
We enjoyed most of our entrees but the chicken sandwich had a sweetness to it that I didn’t love. Shrimp and Grits were beautiful and tasty, burger was great!
We will definitely be back.
The food was delicious & the staff helped make it a great birthday dinner for me!
The key lemon pie was fabulous; the rest of the meal was very poor
Especially the grilled Cobb salad it was a disaster
Your service was very slow ;it I took ages for the desert to be served
I could never recommend this restaurant except for the key lime pie I take the same street
Great drinks , meal and service
Good food don’t have time to write reciew
A friend and I went to Cavan to celebrate his birthday. The restaurant was crowded, but the servers and other staff were very attentive. The food was great. The service was exceptional. In fact, because the place was so crowded, our meal took a litter longer than the restaurant expected; so they gave us complimentary appetizers to hold us over. Our server, Scott, was new. You would not have know this because he was great too. Another server recognized me from a visit a few months ago and stopped by the table to say hello. This is great place that makes everyone feel at home.
Our friends were visiting New Orleans for the first time and my hasband and I selected Cavan as we have dined there before and loved it. I shared the whole fish with my girlfriend, her hubs ordered the chicken and mine ordered the steak. Fish was sublime, chicken outstanding, but steak was lukewarm. My husband did not tell our server as our friends were both delighted. I Would have given 5 stars except for the temperature of the meat. I had my husband taste the fish, which he loved. His description of his steak was “tasty, but tepid, it probably had to wait for your fish”.
Food was great. Beautiful space.
Server Chris from Indiana was such a doll! Food was great and they gave us a quick little tour. Made my husband's birthday that much more special. Chris had the best table in the house for us. She definitely made the experience that much better! Terrific server with much knowledge about the menu and mansion. Menu limited but what's on it was delicious! Shrimp toast a must try!!
Don’t miss a chance to dine at Cavan! You can visit with Lucille the ghost, upstairs, after you’re done eating, too.
Menu seemed limited from previous ones. But food and cocktails were fabulous. Sat at the bar
The building is charming and the food was delicious. The skate wing was very delicate and nicely done. Great wine list. The bar upstairs has an upbeat relaxing atmosphere. Service was lovely. We will be coming back.
Always a win. Love Cavan. In our top 5 restaurants in New Orleans. Sad they removed the fritters from the menu, but we’ll get over it.
Beautiful location and innovative, flavorful food
Great food, cocktails and service. Tables were slightly small to relax and enjoy our meal, and the air conditioning might have been broken- it was well above 70 in the dining room. Overall though we loved it and will be back.
Best meal I’ve had at Cavan. New chef is obviously solid, and it shows. Attentive service.
The food was average, the zucchini beignets were good but when my shrimp entree came, the shells were on the shrimp and I had to peel them myself, which was odd given the nature of the dish. My friend got the steak and it was two little strips of meat, definitely not enough food for the price.
There was so much hype surrounding this restaurant that I couldn’t wait to go. I had a business associate in town for a dinner meeting with a customer. At first glance we were charmed. We were seated right in center of dining room and promptly given our menus. We were thrilled to learn that it was Restaurant week! After ordering a cocktail, we were asked to move to another table so they could fit more tables in dining room. We obliged and immediately realized that it was a significantly warmer in the new location and they had a floor fan blowing at our feet and legs all evening. We ordered the skate special from the restaurant week menu. The entree looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp, along with my guests meals, for quite some time. And it was horribly dried out and chewy. The portion sizes were extremely small, I guess due to the restaurant week special, but the overall experience was such a disappointment.
Forgot to mention the super loud hard rock music playing in the dining room. I had to ask them to turn it down but it barely helped. Bad choice.
There are way too many brilliant restaurant options in NOLA for me to waste my time and money here again.
They went above and beyond to make our dinner special!
Wonderful experience!!! My date and I enjoyed everything about our dinner at Cavan’s!!! The food was delicious, especially the fish special, Skate!!! The ambiance and setting were just wonderful!!! We will definitely return for more!!!
This was our way to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We were told it was an up scale brunch. There were very few items to choose from. Our wait staff did not check on us often. (Our plates were cleared by a different staff member) the building was beautiful but the food didnt compare to it. Overall it wasnt what we were expecting.
Cavan is delicious! The best buttermilk pancake I think I've ever had. And Rita and Ashton provide the best service!
Came with my wife for our anniversary and the place was great! The house it’s in is beautiful and really sets the mood for the restaurant. Perfectly crafted cocktails and wine, followed by wonderful food pairings. They were out of the dessert we wanted and comped is a delicious key lime pie for our special occasion. The staff was quite pleasant all around.
The restaurant is very pretty. The server was not enthusiastic. The food was not exceptional.
Great food and service
The atmosphere is so charming and historic
Had an impromptu lunch with my daughter (4yo) and hubs. It was a very “grown up” experience! The food was delicious and the staff very accommodating!
Ambiance was very nice. Food was okay. Enjoyed the experience and would go back.
thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
and our server was perfect!
Wonderful small plate menu. We loaded up on the antipasti, corn fritters and biscuits and gravy. All were very good. Maybe the best antipasti in town.
We had a wonderful dining experience during Coolinary at Cavan!
We arrived a bit early to have a cocktail at the bar. The dining room is gorgeous and historic - definitely has that authentic New Orleans charm. All of our servers were so sweet. We had to wait a little while for our table, which we didn't mind one bit, but they were very apologetic and even offered complimentary sparkling wine. The food was top notch. We had the three course Coolinary menu with the wine pairing, and each course was perfect. All my husband and I could talk about the next day was how good the food was.:)
loved every part of it and a great experience overall!
The food was not as good as I had hoped. The portion was fairly small and the food came out lukewarm. The service was great.
