Met some out of town friends for Sunday brunch. Was cold in the restaurant. The Bloody Marys were not a pleasure. Way too much pepper, poor tomato juice and little alcohol. Limited choice of bread - no sourdough in San Francisco.Eggs ok, bacon over cooked, but generous. Could do better if you are looking to enjoy a Sunday brunch
definitely - been going there since they opened - I know the owners - love the food & vibe
the service on Thurs night was just ok - the girl behind the bar had very little personality or enthusiasm
I pour wine for a living & was surprised she was on board there
I called to change our reso from 4 people to 5 last minute, which I realize is a big ask for a busy Sunday for brunch, so I was expecting just to get a "no" and would have to cancel. The woman who answered the phone made it clear this was a VERY big ask, said she needed to put me on hold, and when she got back on explained how big of a favor she did for our group and how many parties she had to move around.
When we arrived it seemed like the team was extremely understaffed and struggling to keep up (10:45). There wasn't a host, and no one greeted us for about 7 minutes. A server eventually acknowledged us and said we'd have to wait. We waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time, and it took at least five minutes before our server came to take our drink order. We ordered food and drinks at the same time, and our drinks were dropped off at the same time as our food. The food was good, some items better than others - the three from our group who got burgers definitely ordered the best thing on the menu, I had the veg hash which was soggy.
Overall it is a nice room and their food it probably better when it's not as busy (not ideal since being busy is the goal), but it was hard to enjoy the atmosphere when it seemed like their staff was extremely stressed, not able to deliver service, food, drinks, or clear tables in a timely manner. Definitely was a completely mediocre experience.
Food was great. Portions are small though. They try to charge for everything. My friend and I both left hungry.
Delicious food, attentive and friendly waitstaff, and great ambiance. Wonderful place!
We had brunch here, and sat outside. It was wonderful.
Food was ok but waitress didn’t come once to ask how is everything.
Meh. We shared the deviled eggs which were very bland. I did appreciate the terrific waitress who asked if we wanted to increase the order as it was 3 halves and we were 2 people (I never understand why restaurants serve 3 of anything since most people dine in 2s). My kale salad was so bitter I almost sent it back but we were chatting. My friend reported that his ahi tuna was “ok.” Would not return although the service was excellent.
I had the chicken sandwhich - it was delicious and college had the burger, also fantastic.
Had a great dinner before going to a concert
Our first time @ Causwells. Two had burgers, which were awesome (make sure to get the crispy onions!) & two had the squash soup, peppers & mushrooms with peaks which were all also very, very good! Service was friendly and fast as well. I would eat here again.
I don’t get it. Second and final time I am going here. Food ok, seats are harder than anything and we got unlucky bc we had poor service. So, not going back.
My husband and I had a reservation. We were taken to our table and waited longer than 10 minutes before we were ever approached by staff. It was impersonal as the space was cramped. I felt like I was having dinner with the table next to us. The hostess who seated us didn't bother asking us if we wanted anything to drink. My husband and I were able to get up and leave before our server finally came over to us. The food was mediocre at best. We both ordered burgers with fries and were never given ketchup. I also asked for the aioli from my burger on the side but never received it. We also felt rushed. They cleared our plates as soon as we were done and gave us our check almost immediately. My husband and I have very busy lives and wanted to sit and talk but we felt like they were trying to hurry us out. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
The best cheeseburger in the marina hands down. Would recommend to a friend in a heartbeat.
Good neighborhood spot with a nice menu; great burger!
This was “fine” as a conduit for meeting friends, but we probably won’t go back. Three of us had hash browns and the fourth had Eggs Benedict. The latter was probably the best. The smoked pork hash browns was just just a little bit of pork on top of Tater Tots (definitely better than the frozen kind). The veggie hash browns had some veggies in a salsa that made the hash browns soggy. I couldn’t taste the “smoked” part of the cauliflower.
The service was good until it got busy, and I finally had to track down the check.
Quality food served in small setting restaurant with alot of Marina District, San Francisco "flavor"
A terrific burger every time with a lovely relaxed ambiance..... The service was great -- and I see they have a new menu with yummy inventive options (tho I couldn't help myself and STILL had the burger)!
Best burgers in town - Americana & Brunch burgers.
Food was very good but not brought to table really hot but warm only. I also came in person ahead of brunch to make sure birthday candle was put on dessert, but no candle or anything. I also asked for specific seat in person, but already someone else was seated there. This was 9:00 on Sat. morning, so host should have looked at notes. Restaurant just opened, and host who took my request in person said nothing about someone ahead of our party. Host and waiter should read request notes. Not a busy time.
The food and ambience were great as always. However, the service was a bit slow. This was my first time going for brunch, but I have been several times for dinner and always enjoy myself.
Nice people, but over cooked greasy burgers and cold onion rings.
It was fine, and not much more than that. Everything was ordered but nothing exceptional.
This is our second year to come for New Years. Friendly atmosphere, always festive with balloons and confetti. Great wait staff and great food. Thank for another great evening.
Causewells has the second best burger (that I have had so far) in San Francisco in my opinion. We order it every time we go. I really like the ambiance here too.
The beer, burgers, eggs, and hash were amazing. We sat outside with some heaters and watched all the people and yoga pants walk by. Very nice!
Very disappointing. We came here based on the reviews, but the food and service was mediocre. We went for brunch and ordered the deviled eggs with smoke trout. Sounds yummy, but the tiny sliver of trout that topped the deviled egg was not enough to lend any flavor to the dish. The other dish we ordered was the Market Vegie Hash. The dish was essentially a very large bowl of tater tots (on the mushy side) with a smattering of vegetables. I was so excited for the smoked cauliflower, but there were only two florets in the dish. The other vegies were also very spare as well. The location is great. I love Chestnut street and the ambiance is nice inside the restaurant. Unimpressed - would not go back.
Great food in a great location.
The tatertots are absolutely wonderful! The staff is very nice and helpful.
The service was terrible we made a reservation and got there early to wait over an hour for our food. My fries were cold, food was just okay. They offered a comped dessert we then had to wait another 20 min for and we had to be at a show so we asked that they make it to go. The dessert was not good and they didn’t include utensils, we had to ask and wait again to get utensils to eat our mediocre to go dessert that was supposed to make up for the almost 2 hour wait for mediocre food. Very disappointing.
Head a truly great lunch with friends. Food exceeded our expectations.
Love the brunch🤩
Causwells is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It's small and cozy, and has a great vibe. Great for dates, families, and friends. Their food is delicious, especially their burger. In my opinion, they have the best burger in all of SF! They also have a great brunch, including a brunch version of their burger. Causwells is a must try!
Still among the best hamburgers in town. Perfectly cooked and great crispy onion rings.
The burger here might just be the best I’ve ever had!
This was our first time at Causwell's and we were very impressed! The food and wine were excellent as was the service. We'll definitely be back.
Food was good and nice atmosphere but I had a view of the area where the servers pick up food and they were trying to figure out which burger went to which table. At least 3 people touched the 3 burger buns multiple time. One picked up the buns 3 times himself. Finally the flicked off the bacon and served them. Fortunately it wasn't mine.
Great weekend brunch. Homemade biscuits are a must w homemade preserves. Fresh & interesting egg dishes, vegetarian as well as old favorites. Lots of sharing plates that u might not want to share - all are delicious.
Service and food slipping. Ordered a bottle of wine which did not come until burgers, waited a good 20 minutes. Onion rings were not fresh and hot, like usual.
