Had a wonderful dinner. Atmosphere was nice and there was a good wine list. Food was good. My mashed potatoes were just a little salty but overall we had a great meal.

Service started out very rocky. The hostess led us to the wrong table, then left us standing there while she walked back to the desk to get us another table. When we were seated, wait staff was rushing around, but no one seemed to notice us. No water, nothing, After 10 minutes, my husband got up to find someone to find out who our server was. That got their attention. Then it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks delivered when we could see them sitting on the bar ready to be picked up. Caterina redeemed itself with fantastic appetizers, buratta salad and grilled octopus. Followed by equally great butternut gnocchi and risotto. Fabulous. Should have stopped there. My Pork chop entree was dried out, way over cooked. You could tell it was sitting out under a heat lamp for a while. My husband’s monk fish entree was very good. Dessert was very good. We Understand that it is student-run, and the students are in a learning environment. And overall, glad we got to see the CIA and dine in one of their restaurants. But service needs more focus and would have greatly improved our experience.

Fritto Misto and Pork were amazing !! Affogato could use more ice cream. Ice cream to espresso ratio was off. Espresso was very bitter. But service was amazing. Lee did a great job.

The restaurant is attractive outside and offers nice calm ambiance inside. The wait staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Wine selection was OK but limited. My wife had the salmon which was excellent, I had the monk fish, which was good but the portion was small. Overall a good dining experience.

I have been to restaurant in past, and wanted to share with friends who were gathering for a weekend in Hudson Valley/Vermont. Very disappointed in the service: expected a longer dining experience given student-run operation, but it was EXTREMELY and UNNECESSARILY slow throughout.

Went for HV Restaurant Week. While the main courses were good, the sides (we got Brussel sprouts and cauliflower) and eggplant parmigiana were quite bland. We were slightly disappointed.

The ambience is nice but rather sterile (academic). The tables are huge and talk was somewhat inhibited due to the distance. The wait staff was very nice but most of them were confused. The pacing of the meal was off and one of us received both his appetizer and primi piatti simultaneously (It was cold by the time he got to it). However, most of our food was good. Some of it was very good. The Amuse Bouche was terrible but the fritto misto di mare, squash gnocchi, Salmon, Filet Mignon and gelati were excellent. The lamb was awful. It had a strong mutton taste and was under cooked. Skin and fat made it unsavory and impossible to cut. It was over all a good experience.

Very few Italian choices for an Italian restaurant, which was disappointing. Just pasta as the first course. Was told that a new head chef from Australia was hired in March and that he was slowly integrating the menu with more Italian fare. My question is "why was it not Italian before he arrived and what's taking so long to add them?" Service was poor as there was an international contingent on site as staff that night. Our waiter did not appear to speak English and service was slow for drinks, the meal, etc. The waiter did not introduce himself or explain the prix fixed menu selections. Food was very good though.

Yes I know this is a Culinary school, even so the school bills their restaurants a fine dining venues, given that the experience should be very good. On this occasion it was not. The service was very poor, right from the start. To begin, we ordered 3 appetizers, our server only put in for one! So we had to wait for the other two. Next she is removing our appetizers while we are still enjoying them, the plates were half full!! She was so flustered at this error that she asked her supervisor to relieve her. OK, now our new server brings me my soup, no spoon!!!, It took a while to get a waiters attention to get one. The one bright spot, the entrees were good, although there was a long wait between the soup and the entree. Deserts were average.
I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

Don't believe the menu on the website. We expected an authentic Tuscany menu, but found nothing but lamb chops, filet mignon, & salmon listed. While very well prepared, having to settle for non authentic, non regional cuisine was a disappointment. All in all, this experience was not worth the money or my time.

My husband and I traveled to the Hudson River Valley for an autumn trip to view leaves, West Point, the Roosevelt estate, Val-Kill, and tour and dine at the CIA. We dined at the CIA twice, and both times found the food superb and the service a work in progress. We waited and waited for our cocktails, had to request bread, remind the server to bring our dinner wines...that said, the food was lovely!

We were looking forward to a great meal but I think our order was overlooked or a mistake in the kitchen. Main course took way too long to come out. Others seated after us ate and left before ours arrived. The steak dish is tasty but overall the food was pretty bland. I guess they keep a small menu but it wasn't Italian enough for us. The server was nice and attentive as we enjoyed asking a few questions about the school. Sorry for the tone of this review but it was a disappointing experience. The students did work hard in the dining room!

Very disappointing. We didn't realize until too late that this is the first restaurant new students find themselves in. Service was uneven and slow. Food was undercooked (Lamb) and tough, or overcooked (salmon). Desserts were average. The highlight was the coffee and the appetizer.

This was the first time that my husband and I had dinner at this restaurant. We understood that it was staffed by students and were looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, neither the food nor the service met our expectations. Our waiter was inattentive requiring long intervals between courses and our receipt of the requested check. He was not able to adequately explain the entrees. The food was uneven - the small portion of monkfish was dry and lacked flavor. Hopefully further training will improve this experience for others.

The service was very good. One guest had the 1st and 2nd course mixed up. The steak ordered medium, by another guest, was served rare. This was sent back, but didn't look any different. We found the sauces were very salty. The dessert was very good, and since we had a foodie at our table, she received another dessert.

Overall we enjoyed ourselves, and we would come back.

My daughter and I our lunch very much. It was the second day of the block. The students really did a great job both back of the house and front of the house. The Kale salad was very good and the Chick Pea soup was excellent. We ordered the grilled Salmon and the Poached Halibut. Both equally as good. We also ordered cappuccinos and had the biscotti for dessert. A little disappointed on the biscotti I thought they were a little soft and needed a little more flavor. We will definitely return with more family members.

The service and food prep are by the students and these kids are amazing. Impeccable service, friendly and eager to share their knowledge. Each course was prepared perfectly with great presentation.

My wife had Risotto as her first course and was simply spectacular. My salmon was prepared perfectly.

My only regret was This was our first visit after living in the area for 50 years.

Will be back for sure.

The waitress was excellent, very personable and we enjoyed talking to her. Everything tasted wonderful except the dessert. It was lemon curd with raspberry sauce. It's name was deceptive. It was several balls (size and texture of a munchkin) that you dipped in the sauce. I absolutely did not taste any lemon flavor. Otherwise the entire dinner was excellent. Not being familiar with the area it was confusing finding the restaurant, could be better marked. I would definitely return if in the area again.

Caterina De Medici Restaurant at the CIA was a wonderful dining experience. The food was wonderful and the menu extremely well planned. It was actually difficult to choose there were so many wonderful choices. Service was extremely attentive. What our young student waiter lacked in experience was more than made up for by his extreme desire to please.
A true highlight of our meal was a kitchen tour and meeting the chef/instructor in charge of the student cooks. He was personable and answered our many questions.
A great experience all around.

Our server was nice, but didn't seem too knowledgeable about anything. The food was amazing. We ordered a first course and main entree for lunch. The drinks were great too. I had a beer brewed at the school and after that split a bottle of wine from the school's campus in , Grey Stone Cellars, and it that was amazing as well. We both ordered an Italian Coffee and it was great. It had maple brown sugar and brandy in it, and it is to die for with home-made whipped cream on top.

Food was good. Service was below expectation. We had a late reservation after 8 p.m. Staffs and manager seem to be totally focused on closing procedures and neglected the need of the remaining customers. This was the only not-so-good experience we had at CIA restaurants over the last 10 plus years.
