What Insiders Are Saying
A nightclub pretending to be a restaurant, but with an actually decent seafood menu.
All was great except they rush you through. You feel like they are moving you along.
Terrible service. Waited one hour to be seated. Very dissapointed with management.
Branzino and risotto is the best I’ve had.
Came to Catch for my birthday dinner and it exceeded my expectations. The food was really good and my drink was as well. I had the rock shrimp, mushroom pasta and Cantonese lobster. All were great and I will definitely visit again but in the NY location.
Had a reservation for 8:15 (had to wait about 25-30 minutes because I was told there were crowded). The waiter had a very “in your face” approach, which was a bit off-putting. He talked way too fast when recommending/sharing specials of the day and I could not hear him over the noise. He also seemed a bit condescending when offering water options and when I asked for the dessert menu (as a friend wanted dessert as her meal). He got a little better as the night went on but what I noticed is his energy was too high and he wasn’t paying much attention to detail. I understand the restaurant is loud and waiters are busy BUT waiters get into a ROUTINE instead of slowing down and treating each experience in a unique way. The ambiance is absolutely GORGEOUS; however, this being our first time there, it was not the ideal service/experience and although I would recommend it to others, I may think twice about returning.
I feel like the other side of the restaurant "behind the bar" is the "cool side". I was on the tourist side.. I hate sitting so close to other tables because both tables on both sides of us were listening intently to our conversation and it was very annoying. If it's just 2 people they will likely sit you against the wall there and you will have NO privacy. Other than that, the waiter was great. Food was amazing.
First time here! Had the brazino, spicy cauliflower, sushi. Everything was amazing! The ambiance was so cozy but very hip and chic. It was a Sunday night they had a DJ that played great hip music. Def a spot to visit
We arrived slightly early for our reservation and checked in... twice. We were told multiple times that we'd be seated "real soon now" by two different people (I heard the same line used with other people waiting). We were seated about 45 minutes after our reservation. I understand that it's not an exact science, but if you're not seated within 10-15 minutes of a reservation, I'd expect at least an apology, but nothing. I also heard this from several other parties, so clearly the staff are unable to manage reservations and need to revisit how that works. The waiter was rude in manner and in his handling of things, nearly hitting my wife in the face with a fork. The bussers were nice at least. The lobster was good, although with far too much lemon. The filet was perfectly cooked, which was nice, but it was smothered in a sauce that was too sweet, especially for steak. Overall, this was a lot of money and trouble for a mediocre experience.
just good to visit. I would like to take this change to express my thanks to Selby again.
Amazing all around experience
This was my first time at Catch and after hearing all about it, I had really high expectations. Safe to say, it still exceeded them! The staff are very kind, the sushi is amazing, and you 100% have to get dessert.
My husband hates truffle anything and I’m not really a fan either but they had this truffle sashimi plate we ordered and it was Ahhhh-mazing! We kept the sauce to use for dip for other dishes we ordered. Everything we ordered was excellent so we ordered all the sushi rolls a second round (3 plates). One thing I didn’t appreciate (because we spent over $700 on food and drinks for 3 people and weren’t one of those social media people that come to order one drink, take pix for instrgram and leave) Even though they told us we have a 2 hour limit, we were there a little over the 2 hour limit and had a bill for $700 (not including tip), they didn’t directly tell us to leave but they turned on the heater right above our table to max heat which was annoying since we had been drinking...that definitely brought my mood down after having fun...heat and alcohol DO NOT mix. They also brought the check without asking for it which was also annoying...that is why I gave it 4 stars...BUT we’ll definitly be back! the food was too amazing not to go back.
The server told us to get the large seafood tower which was way too much food
The catch roll is A MUST!!!! Our waiter I forget her name (red long hair /glasses) was so attentive and sweet def made our experience .
Seating was a disaster. Sat down just before 10 for an 8:30 reservation. Not cool. Hostesses and managers gave no info and blamed it on other tables not getting up. Doubt it! They probably gave away our table and lied to us.
That being said they did try to make it up to us by sending us 3 small plates for appetizers and a dessert. Overall left a really bad taste in our mouth as we all looked forward to eating there.
I really struggle with a restaurant that has so many touchpoints but only emphasizes customer service from the server POV and not from the level of the whole staff. From the doorman/ground floor reservationist to the host stand, this is a restaurant the truly attempts to deliver the "we can't be bothered, we are very important..." energy and it just simply doesn't make it worth while for the mediocrity of the food.
Have been there 3 times and experience lackluster service.
Great food but long wait for a table even with a reservation and the food took a while to come out. Dinner took about three hours.
Went for Sat brunch around noon. They had a price fixe menu, two ppl for $85 that gives you an appetizer, two entrees and one side to share, plus a bottle of Cava and a dessert to share. Insane amount of food and alcohol for a great price. Food was very tasty, well seasoned. Server was great and very attentive. Fun people watching for a Saturday afternoon.
Nice decor, food was okay
Excellent service and food!
A little on the pricey side for what you're getting but the ambiance and the cocktails make up for it. Still very delicious and fresh.
Great food and great service. Ordered many dishes and all were excellent except one but that's because of our taste preference. Dessert was great and we even got a candle on one of the desserts for one of our friends who recently had a birthday.
Fantastic food! Great service, too! Loved it so much that I’m going back next week!
I was left a little cold. It is a very well designed space but filled with a bunch of 20 somethings thinking they have arrived. Prices are quite high. The waiter recommended a $99 seafood tower as an appetizer. This is what I call a concept restaurant and not chef driven.
We could have easily touched the tables on each side of us as we were seated on a banquet. Literally when you got up you had to turn and shimmy sideways not to have your butt nail the neighbors table. Everything we ordered tasted good. Expect to be in the $150/person price range with drinks and food. We kept it in check by ordering a salad, 3 sushi rolls, lettuce cups and two vegetable sides. We didn’t care to order a main. All plates are brought out as the kitchen prepares them and are sharing plates. We also didn’t order dessert which ran $17-20...I mean really. This restaurant is in a great location, decent food but quite overpriced and the crowd of wanna be’s did not appeal to me.
I would go for cocktails and appetizers and judge for oneself.
Thank you... The food was good and the drink was amazing.
Super fun and a great spot for girls night!
Catch is always a win! Great food and service. I’m vegan and my family isn’t so it’s nice to go to a seafood place that has a little bit of everything. Our server Remington was a true delight and the special nagiri dish was a real treat for my mom. We sat outside and it was a bit quieter than indoors so I recommend that area if you can.
Vegan- Caesar salad, sweet potato gnocchi, truffle fries and the cauliflower!
Non-Vegan: truffle sashimi and the seafood gnocchi
CATCH LA's atmosphere is stunning and the food is exceptional as well. We were slightly disappointed in the service. The gentlemen busing the tables were almost pushy to clear our table as they are held to never allowing a used dish to be left on the table. Many times we had to ask them to not take our plates as we were still enjoying our food. We also were surprised that when they placed the Branzino (the entire fish - it's a shared dish for 3 to 4 people) on our table - the wait staff refused to serve it to the table. Surprising for such a nice restaurant. Other than those two issues - it's a great restaurant and one I would frequent again.
Food good overall. Cooked dishes 2 were very good. 2 mediocre. Seafood tower excellent. I felt the buss boys were a little pushy in clearing dishes when items were not finished. I am sure there is a management push to turn tables?
While the waiter was nice I felt his behavior over figuring out how I dissected the $450.00 Restaurant bill for my 3 friends to take care of the tip was embarrassing for an establishment of any kind- never mind CATCH. He grabbed the slips to add everything up the second we signed our respective receipts. He also asked me directly how I arrived at the amounts put on my 3 friends debit cards. I think that is inappropriate behavior! All totaled he received a tip of $81. I was appalled to see this behavior. CATCH - NOT ACCEPTABLE. FYI - I am a banker and luckily knowing how to add is required for my job! :-)
Best choice overall for our anniversary. Beautiful decor, great service and such amazing food. The mushroom spaghetti is a must! Will most definitely be coming back!
Not sure why they take reservations when I've made reservations on several occasions and they've never been able to my reservation time. Keep in mind, they ALWAYS run late!!! Other than that, food was scrupulous and amazingly food. The server at the bar was very nice.
Very good, although it is an expensive restaurant
The place is very pretty and the view fantastic. Food was served relatively quickly. However, several things turned us off on this our first time visit:
1. When we arrived for our 11:00 am reservation we were told to wait in the bar while they got our table ready. Why wasn't our table ready? It wasn't like they had just been hit by a big rush.
2. When we did get seated the table was rather cramped for 6 people. The same size table only had 4 for other patrons.
3. One of the main reasons we decided to try this restaurant was they had a separate vegan menu online. When we asked about it, they said they didn't have a separate vegan menu, but some of the options on the regular were marked that they could be made vegan. That's not the same thing and the online menu had many more vegan options.
4. The special Bloody Mary wasn't all that special for $18. We've had better $6.00 ones.
5. Even though there was still food on the serving and our plates, and we had chop sticks in our hands, the bus staff kept coming by and asking if we were done. It made us feel like they were trying to rush us out of there. The bus staff came by more than our waiter.
6. When we made the reservation we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. No one at the restaurant even acknowledged it.
7. When we left no one said anything to us - no thank you for coming, come back again, nothing. So, I don't think we'll be giving this restaurant another try.
I first visited Catch years ago and had to walk out due to how we were being treated, making a reservation but still having to wait almost an hour, and so on. I decided to revisit years later thinking it may have just been that night and sure enough, it was worse. Same issues and with more attitude. It's unfortunate because I do like the ambiance but I refuse to go out to have a great time just to have my night ruined. To make matters worse, while waiting so long even with having a reservation, every place we asked to sit we were told no however watched them sit people there that came in after us. Never again. Next time I visit I'm asking for the mistreatment.
Food was great, service was amazing, the only minus is food took a lot of time to arrive, we had reservation for 8:45 and we were seated at 9:25. Only after i bothered the host lady.
The food was amazing and the restaurant itself is beautiful.. but we had to wait 25 minutes to be seated and then we were seated in area with close proximity to the bar. It was extremely noisy and impossible to have a conversation. Very disappointed with this as we are not young and I brought guests to the restaurant for their first time.
We’re from DC and visit LA quite frequently. We wanted a new experience and Catch delivered. Great food, great experience with amazing people.
Love Catch LA and try to eat here every time when we are in LA! With the exception of the incredibly rude Hostess Stand, the remainder of the experience is a 10/10. Food and serving staff are excellent.
Management should really change the front end format, as these ladies need to smarten up and take some lessons in hospitality.
