I think the overall quality of Catch 31 has slipped from days gone by. Limited food choices and a so so atmosphere.
Birthday experience for my mother she loved it ! Food was great, it was a nice day so the atmosphere was wonderful!
Crab cakes were amazing and very nicely priced . Thank you
Very nice dining experience. Staff were friendly, restowas clean, food was tasty, bathrooms were clean.
COVID Protocols were followed. Felt comfortable inside.
Food very tasty.
Bummed to find out patio was closed when we arrived
Never got out appetizer so had to cancel order: waiter was good
Unfortunately the pandemic really hit the quality of this restaurant. The food was not as good as it used to be. Service was awful too many managers standing around not enough waiters. Only 2 waiters for 10 tables during a dinner shift, but 4 managers walking around while the waiters were backed up on tables . Very over cooked steak and very dry crabcake. Didn’t ask for a re-fire due to the slowness of how our food came out through the night. The place is beautiful but the food and service just doesn’t match the scenery.
My husband's 70th birthday dinner for the two was a disaster. After I made sure they knew it was a very special occasion we were seated at a poor table with no effort to re-seat us when better tables became available.
There was no recognition of the event, no "happy birthday, sir". The service was neglectful with a request for a different vegetable ignored. The server who promised to correct the mistake never came back. My tuna was overcooked.
Crab cakes are awesome
The food was amazing and the service was great.
I made two reservations for Catch 31: one for Sat at 5:30 pm and another for Sun at 1:45 pm for outdoor seating. A restaurant rep called me this weekend to confirm and advise that Saturday's visit could not be outdoors due to the weather. I was ok with that and she confirmed we could do outdoor seating on Sunday. On Saturday they created an overflow room in Salacia (their second restaurant) and they had way too many tables in there to maintain social distancing between parties. Service and food were great on Saturday, but the room was not set up with linens, silverware or anything else for tables. Sunday, we arrived on time and were told they didn't have our reservation and we couldn't sit outside without an hour wait. Food was decent, great waitstaff service. The hostesses were disorganized and the hotel had closed its patio seating on both patios for concrete renovation during Spring break! Plus the hostesses did not ask about my Open table reservation so then I got an email from Open table with the wrong reservation time. In retrospect I think the first hostess changed the reservation in the system without consulting me. Catch 31 has too many hostesses to be this inept. Not impressed at all.
Excellent food and a great atmosphere. They also have a dress code posted which helps keep the atmosphere pleasant, but not snooty. We will definitely go again!
The food was awesome and the service was great!!
The restaurant was not prepared to deliver during the current pandemic.
Great food, friendly waiter. Table by the window with ma ocean view. Kids menu and crayons for the little ones too!
Our waiter was the best we’ve experienced on our trip to Virginia Beach. With previous mixed reviews we were hesitant on trying, but glad we did. Great atmosphere, food and service. Only negative would be the menu selection.
We received our entrees and had to wait for cutlery and our bottle of wine. The potatoes and vegetables on both dishes were not hot. Upon request our server delivered hot sides but we were already half way through our fish, both of which were over cooked. No one apologizes. I figured management would instead discount one of our appetizers or a drink but not. As locals we were disappointed and will not go back again anytime soon.
Requested to sit outside in reservation, but found out the patio was closed for the day when we showed up (during spring break??). The seafood is served on a bed of “greens”, which looks like a pile of seaweed, with soggy potatoes from the hotel breakfast swimming in it. Gross! I just ate the fish on top, which tasted ok, but my stomach hurt afterwards. Also, it was very expensive.
Waitstaff was nice, and thank god the kids liked their cheeseburgers and dessert. But we won’t be back!
Our waitress was great but the food was bland .
I've been to Catch 31 many times; so this experience was disappointing. The seating was limited and understandable, but the service and food was subpar at best. The prices were still at the normal level, but the experience was not in synch with that value. It'll be a while before I'll return; as the ambience, clientele and level of service has taken a step in the wrong direction.
The Mignon was absolutely delicious!! The private dining area was very nice and appreciated.
They have great servers.
Great food and atmosphere for celebrating my birthday! We had the “Atlantic Tower” with lobsters. Impressive and delicious!
Server was fantastic! I got the poke bowl app and made it my meal, it was a nice size as I couldn’t finish it. It was scrumptious My husband had the Alfredo with the blackened chicken, that too was yummy! The only thing I would say is some of their cocktails are a bit over priced. Not the $12 ones that’s normal but some are $16 or more. I ordered my regular casamigos mezcal and seltzer and that was $16. And yes I know that it top shelf..but $16 is the most I’ve ever paid. I would have just ordered a bottle of Kim k. Not concern with price but do care about value. But overall the food was great and the service was wonderful!
We had dinner there on a Thursday night in march.
The food was OK nothing special.
Felt like I was being rushed through every course .
Even to having the cheque placed on the table before they had cleaned the plates form the table . I would not call that basic service in any restaurant.
Seemed to be more show than good well prepared food.
Probably would not eat there again.
The chef was very accommodating in our meal preparation.Service was outstanding, attentive but did not interfere with our dinner conversation. Our table overlooked the Ocean.
Love the fact that Catch 31 social distancing and adhering to mask mandates. Made us feel safe and we were able to enjoy the meal in piece 😊
Not my favorite. Was excited for this meal and was disappointed. Not a great menu, oysters were average.
Phillip our server was asked if I could have a cushion as of my bad back. After a wait he came back with a bed pillow Just fantastic and made my meal great My whole b fish was as good as I’ve every eaten, whole dinner was an exciting evening thanks
I definitely won’t be coming back.
Great food, great service. Has a wonderful dinner!
We had a good time. The service was great.
my husband and I went to Catch 31 for my birthday dinner, we walked from our hotel on the boardwalk to the restaurant which was a nice time do so. Our waiter Nash was fantastic, however, my husband's food was not made to his request. he ordered the steak and lobster tail, we were told they did not have lobster tail any more that night, so my husband ordered the steak only, medium temperature. When it arrived at our table it was well done so he sent it back. we waited another 10 mins for his food to arrive, i already had my Dungeness crab legs on my plate. the steak arrived and it was looked perfectly this time. the ambience of the restaurant could have been a bit more festive. the tables were plain, no decorations at all although i understand they were following covid protocols. i would go back to catch 31 again.
Service and food exceeded expectations. Wait staff was very professional and attentive to our needs/wants. Will be returning soon.
Bad oysters. Made me sick.
Great atmosphere, great food and awesome service.
Awesome Artichoke dip and peta bread was delicious
We sat outside. Although it was chilly, the firepit made it comfortable. The bronzed salmon was delicious. The crabcakes were filled with crab and very little filler. The view was gorgeous.
