Anniversary dinner: food and service was great. Only wish they had done a little something special as we had noted it was an Anniversary dinner.
Both my date and I got sick from the food. Seemed like the waitress was rushing us the whole time. Can get better oysters for much cheaper at other places in the area.
If they didn't have King Crab Legs, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed our meal, but since my husband loves them, he was satisfied. You can't really screw them up unless they are cold, so at least they came out warm. I ordered the local rockfish, it was just OK. The sides served with it were good though. We split a Caesar salad as well - it was large, but the it had tomatoes on it which was weird and the dressing was watery. We had a molten lava cake that was overcooked, probably only one bite of gooey-ness. And the ambiance left something to be desired. We figured that at the Hilton in this area, we'd have fewer of the kids you'll find everywhere on the beach, but no. Some families came in with undisciplined kids (and adults, I must say), being loud and obnoxious and constantly getting up and down and going back and forth.
Our waitress was exceptional!
Sorry, but our experience was beyond terrible.
Oysters were mushy, lemons were nasty and the calamari platter was full of fried pickles...
Both the men’s and ladies bathrooms were a true mess.
I’ve been coming to your restaurant since you opened...shocked!
Everything was great, you just need to remember as beautiful as the hotel is you are still at an oceanfront hotel, lots of kids and people dressed really casually, which is fine and the way it should be. A nice blend, we will be back from Ohio.
When visiting VB, at least 3 times per year, I always make Catch 31 a go to place. I never had a bad meal until this visit. The food was just good, not the same “wow” as I have experienced in the past. I was informed by another guest that the menu had changed, hmmm? Our server Gia was great, she maintained a great experience, except for a creature that paid us a last minute visit! Got to think twice about a return visit.
We visited Catch 31 last night for a GIRLS NIGHT! We were greeted with warm smiles and a Hello immediately. We had a large group of women who gathered at the main entrance. The hostess immediately offered to take our pictures so that we could capture the moment. Our table was waiting for us and our waiter Sam immediately greeted us and poured us all glasses of water and provided us with a glass of straws, lemons, and limes. Sam was very knowledgeable and patient the ENTIRE night. He explained the menu and the specials with great enthusiasm and knowledge. Sam was also very helpful in making sure the cooks made everything to order. While we waited he kept drinks filled, bar orders placed, bread and butter on the table, and any of our request filled. We never had to ask Sam more than once for anything. Sam was the most polite waiter ever and we all eat out in different parts of the world. When our food arrived at the table it was hot, seasoned well, and plentiful. All of Sam's suggestions were correct......from the type of fish and cuts of steaks he suggested to the flavor pairings. I must say that Sam takes his job serious and is passionate about caring for the customers. We would love to thank the staff at Catch 31 for making our night so gosh darn remarkable!!!
Great dining experience. Excellent seafood and steaks. Right on VA beach boardwalk. Highly recommend.
Grinch brunch. this was the best idea. The kids loved it. was a fun time
Waitress was not attentive to needs
Went for Grinch Brunch, had reservations, there was a small area with tables where the Grinch would be, asked and we were told no omw would be sitting there except the Grinch, he would walk around and then we'r could go in that area to get pictures. They were not busy, yet people were sat there. The food was ok, nothing special, then there was not one but 2 hairs found in one of our omelets, they were quick to chomp her food but other than a small apology from the waitress nothing was said. The grinch walked around 2, maybe 3 times, waving and then would disappear for 15 minutes. The event was 2 hours, we all thought we had read the ad for it said they would be playing the movie, they didn't. Other than getting a print out before we left of a picture with the Grinch, our was just breakfast with friends, the hoopla and the actual brunch was a huge disappointment.
Waiter was extremely kind and took the time to go through various entrees and offered suggestions, which were right on point!
Pricey, but yummy
Outstanding meal and outstanding service by Katie. This was our first time dining at Catch31, but we will definitely be back. Thank you for a great dining experience. HC
Great service and food was well prepared. Great seafood menu and love the mixed drinks menu. View is perfect on the beach. Beautiful inside with professional dressed wait staff. Love the atmosphere. A must try
Beautiful restaurant, great location with ocean view. The hot stew appetizer is awesome. Our servers Nash and Janine were excellent. We really like the fish tacos and the flat bread
Our waiter was excellent and the food was really good, however our 1st impression of the restaurant was horrible due to the hostesses. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservations and I told the hostess that and asked if we could be seated. She rudely told me that she could not seat us early and that she would txt us at 8pm the time of our reservation. At 8pm we went back to the hostess stand and told her we were txt’d that our table was ready and she Cooley grabbed 2 menus with the nastiness of expressions totally smiles and we followed us to our table - I counted at least 10 empty tables on the way to our table. Once we arrived at table she pointed to our table and then left without saying a word or a hint of a smile. As I said the waiter was awesome and food was good or we would never go back to this restaurant.
We enjoyed the food.
Awesome service. We had an ocean view
Table but it was next to the door leading outside and everytime the door was opened we got a strong breeze at the table.
I had a steak. It was cooked as requested but I found it to be very tough.
The branzino presentation was unappealing and the fish was dry..the whole plate was dry....the bread was cold and hard..very noisy...the desserts were good as was the shrimp cocktail..overall I was disappointed. Finally, I asked for a wheelchair accessible table and they put us in a booth
Had a great time at brunch on Sunday. Food was good, service was good. Restaurant is clean and inviting!
Great place for a small group of friends to meet up. The food was tasty, creative and well prepared.
I'd like to give this place a higher rating but the food disappoints. The she-crab bisque is purely cream you can't taste any stock or seasoning at all. It was also lukewarm. My husband's branzino was great though. Our server was great. The person doing the sitting took a while to sit people (with reservations). We noted we're celebrating a birthday in our reservations but that completely got ignored sadly.
We were in town from New York and Catch 31 was the best restaurant we ate at. The food, service, and atmosphere were all superb. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. We can't wait to go there again on our next visit to Virginia Beach!
This. Used to be a really nice place to eat, but we noticed it has really gone down hill.
Great food and right on the water! This is a restaurant to keep coming back to!
the seats at the booth was full of crumbs and little food, i didnt get the birthday set up i asked for in reservations but food was amazing waitstress was great!
The food was very good and the service was excellent. The only complaint was that the original item that I ordered was no longer available.
Loved the spinach artichoke dip with crab. It was served with buttery toast points which made this a delicious appetizer.
Always a great meal here! We take friends and family here for fun times and good food!
Great food and service!! Terrance did a fantastic job of taking care of us and making the experience wonderful. Inside was pretty noisy but we switched to a table outside and enjoyed the evening breeze and all the activity on the boardwalk. Would come back again and highly recommend it to anyone staying in VA beach..
For an anniversary dinner confirmed by both check in staff and waitress no recognition of that fact was acknowledged throughout the evening. I’m not talking about some free dessert situation but a total lack of even a “happy anniversary” of any kind.
Scallops were great so +1 star. Rockfish was bland.
We came in from out of town to celebrate a special friends birthday. We had a 7:45 reservation. It was a cold evening so there werevhardly any customers seated outside so the restaurant was not super busy. We had to ask to get a waitress to our table after being seated. The waitress had to be reminded to bring one of our drinks. One of our party had requested one of her orders be brought out as an appetizer which the waitress didn’t do and had to be reminded. It came late so she asked that remainder of her dish be packed to take home in which it was tossed. It took over an hour to get our entrees. My dish was the crab cake which was mediocre but side dish was undercooked and tasteless. The other entrees were good. A mgr came over to talk to my friend about the appetizer mistake and did take that off our bill.
Considering the location and price of our meal we were really expecting more. Our overall experience was very unpleasant.
Drinks were great. Our waitress was ok. Didn’t bring the bread with the drinks, or appetizers or while we were waiting for our entree but she did get it there seconds before our entree. (Other tables were served bread immediately). Our flatbread appetizer was terrible the base was like an over proofed pizza dough. My husband had the mahi mahi it was great and my burger was good.
Catch 31 came very highly rated and certainly was good. My mahi was ver good but not served hot. My husband’s rockfish had annoying bones. Comparably speaking, prices were high. I would give it a try again but would sit in the bar area for lunch or happy hour...
The reservation was seamless. We were seated immediately at a very nice table. Our waiter was quick to greet us. We ordered drinks and they took quite some time to arrive. I assume the bartender was busy. Oysters were delicious, however, my husband kept getting small bits of shell and sand while eating the oysters that he had to remove. He said that ruined the oyster experience for him. The house salad was delicious and a very generous portion. The meal came with bread/butter for the table. Two people received the rock fish dish, and one the filet. Each meal was well presented. The green beans were very al dente and not really appetizing. The rock fish came with salt and pepper and we chose to have it grilled. It was cooked perfectly, as well as, the filet. The atmosphere was up beat and professional for a "beachy" location. Attire was from trucker hat to dressed up., It was nice to see that you could have a fine dining experience and not have to be overly dressed. Overall a nice experience and I would recommend to a friend.
My wife and I have frequented Catch 31 since the Hilton opened. It has always been good, however it seems to be a bit better, with the advent of the new management. I wish they would bring back parking validation.
Great location and inside
The food was "less than"
Great food. the waiter was really good, but evidently they were short staffed. there was just a little too much time waiting to order, to get the wine, and for the food. and we were having a nice leisurely dinner
If you don’t like fish, do not pick this restaurant. While the seafood was out of this world, the chicken was dry and boring...like it was just an after thought for the unfortunate people who don’t enjoy fish.
Apps were great (Oysters Rockefeller and Spinach Artichoke Dip). Entrees were ok (my shrimp was over cooked and side were blah). Very noisy which is fine but if you are looking for a nice, relaxing meal you might want to go elsewhere.
