Love the food here! Excellent paella, fish dishes, and flat iron steak tonight!
Took too long for a server to arrive to take our order, but she was outstanding once she engaged....very knowledgeable with great recommendations! Comfortable casual atmosphere.
My birthday dinner with a friend. We enjoyed everything. I had the roasted chicken, delish!
My friend had the Liver & loved it. The best was the mushroom side dish with bacon & shallots yum.
It’s always good.
Was a busy Thursday night. We only had an hour so sat in the bar. The owner took our drink menu and made us drinks! No unreasonable wait. Excellent food recommendations for tapas and prix fixe. Saffron Spartzle & Lamb Ragout was outstanding...
The setting was great with enjoyable guitar music, covered patio, and lively chatter from the full house. Unfortunately the service and the food didn’t measure up. The waiter wasn’t very professional. He sort of tossed the menus on the table. He didn’t properly identify the fish special. He didn’t seem to be focused on what we were asking or saying. He was supposed to apply a discount, but when the bill came, we noticed that he hadn’t applied it. He apologized and returned with a bill for the correct amount.
They were out of the paella special for the day. I settled for the regular paella which was tasty enough and did have a generous portion of seafood. My husband ordered the Dover sole, but didn’t finish it which is unlike him. It was bathed in oil and was do spicy that you couldn’t appreciate the flavor of the delivery cate fish.
With so many other restaurant choices, I’m not sure I would come back here.
Wonderful atmosphere and food! We sat in the bar area and had a great time. Highly recommended.
Wonderful dinner with friends at this pretty restaurant with garden dining. The Special of the Day Black Paella and the Scallops were superb.
Marsellus The waitress was the best. Went the extra mile for us
The food was delicious but I would not call it Mediterranean.
As usual, I found the food and service to be very good.
One member of our group thought his fish was under cooked. The waiter and chef didn't hesitate to prepare a new meal to the customers taste. Personally I prefer my white fish to be translucent for optimum flavor and texture and I would not have sent it back.
My scallops were delicately cooked. Terrific flavor and melt in your mouth texture.
The lamb ragu was declared to be a hit.
Three had the paella to mixed reviews. Personally I have always enjoyed the paella here. When I have traveled in Spain I have found paella recipes vary quite a bit. Every Spaniard's and Catalan's mother make the best paella. I personally like chorizo in it, but some chefs have told me that it is not truly paella with chorizo in it. To each his own.
The early bird 5pm - 6pm menu provides exceptional value.
The Wednesday 1/2 price bottles of wine are also a treat.
But I am going back for the Tapas Tuesday. A fun time in the bar area. Usually have to arrive early, just after 5.
The food here is so delicious! Wine list is extensive and their cocktails were Devine! Highly recommend the pineapple vodka cocktail. We started with the olive platter and we had the chicken and scallops. The cauliflower with manchago cheese and drizzled with truffle oil wAs soooo good! Their caramel de creme with sea salt was tasty! Highly recommend this place!!
We went for the "first Sunday of the month, famous chicken dinner" and found it to be fair at best. The biscuit was very hard the mashed potatoes were a bit glue like and the chicken was just OK. Nothing we ate was exceptionally flavorful nor memorable - however, our server was nice and friendly.
We went especially for the FRIED CHICKEN dinner, which is only served the first Sunday of each month. It was well-worth waiting for. Fabulous, moist chicken with sides and a biscuit too!
We all enjoyed our meal and will go back again for sure.
Terrific food. Smoked octopus a must. Branzino perfectly grilled. Pailla a great blend of seafood and Spanish sausage. Will be back.
Another wonderful dinner at Catalan. A mixture or tapas and shared paella, bottle of Tempranillo, couldn't be better. This is a must stop spot in Rancho Mirage.
This is our favorite restaurant in the area. The food is original and always delicious -- and their extended happy hour means you can have a $19.95 or $24.95 dinner in the main dining room which is just beautiful. Tapas are great and the bar is a fun place too.
Ham very good. Server accommodated our request for manchego cheese for the ham (jamón) even though it was not in the menu. Paella was good but needed a bit more rice. A bit high on the price side.
We ordered the Paella. It was outstanding. Even though the pan, the dish was served in, was not very large, we each took some of the paella home. We ordered Tempranillo to complement the dish. The pesto, that came with the warm bread, was very tasty.
Service was very good. We took a visitor from Germany to Catalan. She was quite impressed with the restaurant.
I dined at Catalan for the first time with my son and daughter in law. The service was flawless, with the waiter steering us towards the right selections for our group. We had the Catalan paella and pitcher of sangria (a Sunday night special) plus grilled octopus. Also a 3 oz serving of Iberian ham which was spectacular, served with warm crostini and pesto sauce. Might be a little expensive for some people, but we loved it, and had left over paella for the next evening’s meal. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We were a party of 4, with 7:30 reservations on a busy Saturday night. We waited in the bar for maybe 10 minutes, and had some delicious sangria, and were then seated in a booth in the dining room. Server was well informed about the menu and specials, and was prompt and efficient. Food was wonderful; two of us had the paella, which was a very large portion which neither of us could finish. It seems like they are putting more shrimp and sausage in the recipe, and maybe a bit less fish and calamari. Still by far the best paella anywhere within 100 miles of Rancho Mirage. The ladies had fish; one mahi mahi, and the other dover sole. Both loved their meals. This restaurant is well worth the drive from more distant points in the palm Springs area. We'll be back in the summer for the great off-season special menu.
Absolutely amazing meal as usual. Our waiter and waitress made our evening. Marasala (?) has an amazing sense of humour and never intruded while we were conversing. Very knowledgeable and super fun! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful experience from the time we walked in and were greeted by Cynthia. I am always in search of the perfect paella and Catalan came very close! Service was super, food exceptionally prepared, and we will put it on our list to come back sooner.
best calves liver ever! beautiful music, good food, pleasant service
We decided to try the restaurant because the menu looked interesting. Two of us had the paella. It was very disappointing. The other two had other items that they thought were mediocre. We don't typically drive this far for dinner, but gave it a try. Although the wait staff were friendly, I do not approve of the servers leaning across the front of customers in order to serve all food from one end of the table. If there was a space issue where they couldn't walk around to the sides of the table to serve appropriately, it would have been okay, but there was plenty of room.
Great place to celebrate a birthday. So much fun!
We go there often.Wonderful and friendly staff- including the presence of the owners- the chef and his lovely wife. The Paella is fantastic! Authentic menu.
I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. The appetizers of chorizo, grilled shrimp, and stuffed peppers were ok. There was way too much goat cheese in the peppers. The shrimp lacked flavor and the chorizo was uninspiring.
While our server was very nice and very prompt, it actually was too rushed. We literally had our entree ( we shared the Rigatoni ) come out right after they cleared our appetizers. Speaking of the Rigatoni, there was described as in a Lamb ragu. Both my wife and I had to actually look for any signs of Lamb. We live outside NYC so we understand high menu prices, but $26 for an entree that with just a few specks of lamb in a tomato sauce with kalamata olives.. Not worth the money.
Anyway, overall this would not be a place Id go back to you.
Lively, informal and fun. Eclectic Mediterranean cuisine offering needed variety in the Coachella Valley restaurant scene. Very good food and service - well-priced. Will definitely return.
From the time we walked in the door the hostesses and servers were extremely nice and gracious. The servers and bussers were the same. Everyone was smiling and focused on the customers. The food was delicious - the olives and fish dip apps, and especially the octopus, were divine. My Greek Uncle LOVED the lamb. It was a Bonus to have the Spanish guitar player live! We had a wonderful experience and will definitely go back!
Great vibes from the moment you stepped in and welcomed warmly by its people. The food is amazing served fresh, clean to the palate but hearty to the taste. Catalan tops my foodie place at the moment and hope it will stay up there. Thank you for a great night. Will see you again definitely.
My favorite restaurant in the Valley. Food is really special. So happy we live nearby.
Our group of five sat at a nice corner table. Loved the atmosphere. Excellent service. Limited, but good menu choices. I had the black spaghetti with shrimp and clams, quite good. Interesting wine list, reasonably priced. Wednesday wine was half-price! I would definitely go back, and/or recommend it to a friend.
Seemed like Catalan was short a server... the waiter was very professional and personable but his time at the table was short with long periods between visits.
Another wonderful dining experience. The staff and service is outstanding and the PAELLA is to die for!
I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time! It surpassed my expectations. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. Took great friends that I hadn’t seen for a while and wanted to really treat them and this was amazing. They were impressed and I will be back very soon!
The food was great and our server was great! We really enjoyed the variety of options on the menu.
Another great evening out with the Catalan team, great food, great service. Enough said.
While vacationing in Palm Desert my wife and I had dinner at Catalan twice. Both times the service was great, the food very tasty and the wine outstanding. We love this place and will return during our next visit to the area.
Compared to the past the service has improved, everyone seems to be more friendly and attentive.
The lamb loins on top of the cauliflower purée was fantastic as well as the paella.. so delicious with so many pieces of seafood. We were so fortunate to have this amazing experience .
Love this place! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is always delicious. Definitely on my list of favorite places in the area. We went for Fried Chicken Dinner night (1st Sunday) and it is fabulous. But I also love this place for dinner any night and happy hour is wonderful too.
Another great meal of their Sunday Fried Chicken dinner.
