Catalan Mediterranean Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
The service was fantastic! The wine recommendations from our server Jared were spot on and some of the best I have ever tasted (and I am a wine-o). The black paella was delicious and the octopus appetizer was a must-have!!! The normal paella was just ok but everything else we had was fantastic! A little pricey but delicious 👌🏻
We raved about Catalon two new friends who had never been there before. No one was disappointed, the food was delicious and the entire evening could not have been better. Our personal favorite is the liver. Not your mama’s recipe. The service was impeccable and I’m sure our friends will be going there as regularly as we do.
The team at Catalan were top notch from reservations all the way to seeing us out the door. Everyone in our group had a great time, and even my co-workers sent me an email of thanks for inviting them to this business dinner (which at my company is unheard of!). Thanks everyone at Catalan for a GREAT evening!
Valet was overwhelmed. Waiting for or car almost made us late for the theatre. I would park independently next time. Service started out fine at 5:30 pm. but as the restaurant got more crowded & closer to curtain time it was chaotic. We weren't able to get our coffee & desert as we ordered. We let it be known prior to sitting down that we had a 7:30 curtain.
We've been wanting to try Catalan for some time and last weekend we did with friends . Sitting in the center patio was a big mistake as the guitar player is so loud we couldn't hear each other talk and we were sitting as far from him as possible. We asked the waiter to have him turn down the volume of his amp so we could carry on a conversation and it made no difference. As to the food, it was OK. My wife had the liver which she loved and I must say with a small taste it was very good. I had the squid ink paella which had no flavor so I ate the shrimp, little baby clams and calamari rings and lots of bread with their special sauce. The apple crisp for desert was great. Would I go back? Not so fast. There are too many quieter places to dine with much better food.
We had a great dinner! Everyone her is welcoming and gracious. Maricela, our server, was happy to explain the menu and provided terrific service. The Dover sole is amazing as is the Paella. The decor and surroundings are lovely, authentic and relaxing. Definitely a winner!
Paella is not paella. Worst paella ever. Other food was not that great either. Once they noticed we had detected the poor food quality, service quickly declined. Servers were gone and never served us from our second bottle of wine. Sorry for the people who go there and think it's fine dinning.
I brought a date there on a Saturday night and wanted to impress him. The kitchen was definitely off. They must have run out of bread because we only got three small pieces and it took a long time to get it. While we were still eating our salads they brought my dates entree to the table and not mine. I went over to the hostess and she was very helpful and apologized and removed the entree. It turned out that it had been for another table. I had the pork tenderloin. It tasted very good, but the portion size was very small in my opinion.
First time into Catalan and was pleasantly surprised on the warming welcome. The food and drinks were so different but incredibly delicious.
Already made a reservation for their "Fried Chicken Dinner" on the first Sunday of the month. I am sure I will not be disappointed!
Excellent dining!!! This was a business dinner. I made the reservations in my boss's name. Both of us were familiar with the restaurant. There was a slight mix-up with the menu online vs the summer menu at the restaurant, but the staff was very accommodating. We had numerous tapas. The Matador Manhattans were delicious---great Bourbon. The entire evening was very nice. The noise level is pleasantly social. One can converse without a problem, although one is aware of others dining nearby but without hearing their conversations.
all I can say is "wonderful" The service, the atmosphere and the food. We went on the first Sunday for the fried chicken and it was delicious. We had just returned from the South and had fried chicken many many nights while there. I can truely say your fried chicken was the best I have ever had. We have been to Catalan other times and the food has always been delicious. can't wait to retuirn, for sure next month for the chicken and probably before that for the yummy paella.
Overall, the restaurant does well at seating and serving customers. We have dined several times at the restaurant, but we will not return because the noise level is so disturbing that the meal is not enjoyable. I would recommend that they move the large parties of diners away from the booths, so the loud conversations wouldn't interrupt the parties of 2 or 4. Last night the party of 20 people within arms-length of us had children crying, screaming and banging the silverware on the table as a drum. The adults in the party of 20 were speaking so loud to reach each other from one end of the table to the other that my party couldn't have a polite dinner conversation unless we matched the loud voices in the room to hear ourselves speak.
I had been there once before for a large happy hour kind of gathering and was impressed with the food, service and ambience so I chose the Catalan to celebrate a friend's success. I ordered a sangria which was excellent, red wine, a splash of brandy, soda and apple slices. My friends had watermelon margaritas and did not comment. We all had gazpacho which was pretty good but had an odd smokey taste. Three of us had Paella which was a real disappointment. The portions were small, fine for me, but I'm not sure about the heartier eaters. The rice was short grained and undercooked as were the shrimp (more like underdone ceviche) and the whole dish was wetter than I've had before. The service was fine. The highlight was warm, crusty bread with wonderful pesto. In fairness it was Labor Day weekend near the end of a long hot summer, so maybe the usual chef was off to cooler climates.
Went for MIL's birthday. It was fine. They ran out of their house chicken "Jidori chicken" and offered my MIL the "special" Chorizo-stuffed chicken - she said it was OK. We also noticed how DARK the center of the restaurant was and much nicer it could've been if it was lighted (we were there 7-830PM). As an aside, we dined at Dish (DT Palm Springs) the night before (same price point) and had a fantastic dining experience there - so maybe we should've reversed the visits :) Overall, Catalan doesn't really offer the "authenticity" of any Catalonian restaurants we've grown accustomed to and for a local restaurant - it's just OK. Hoped for something more. On a positive note - really tasty sangria! :)
