They are closed for business!! So disappointed, because I had booked it for a special occasion. Open Table was not informed of the closure, and now I'm reminded of the missed opportunity, by providing this review.
the manager was not very nice she was snobby
food was ok reservations was 245 and seems like we got the last of the food. food was messy
Still a beautiful place to go but the buffet was totally overpriced for the quality and conditions. Food was Luke warm and they had multiple bins of the same thing so was not replenished often. Miss the elegance and quality of the dining room!!
Finally after 5 years I was able to reserve a table for Mother's Day because I always start too late. I have to say it was so worth it! The food was abundant and very good. I especially appreciated that they didn't have everyone jammed together at the tables. Many places I have gone add extra tables just to take advantage of the holiday crowd. Castaway had comfortable seating with real chairs. I have heard the restaurant is coming under new management. I hope they keep up the amazing service and food.
I have always enjoyed Mothers Day brunch at Castaway. This time very disappointed. No valet parking. Could not seat at requested window table even tho it was on reservation. No carving station for prime rib or steak. No nice warm salmon. Lots of Mexican & Italian food. Salads, fresh fruit. Omelet station. I was disappointed. Even desserts were a let down.
They went out of business 2 weeks before my reservation date.
We were two hours early for our reservation, yet seated within ten minutes. Staff and waitstaff were cheerful, helpful and friendly. Having been at Castaway on Thanksgiving many times in the 1990's and early 2000's I didn't think the 2019 Easter buffet measured up to the past, yet the buffet was hot and plentiful. I would come again in the future, yet not too soon.
There were many issues with our visit to Castaways for Easter brunch. The service was mediocre. The food was scarce and many serving trays were empty for extended periods of time. The waffle/ omlet stations took 25-30 minutes to get through. The worst part is everyone was sick for the entire day after the visit. We will not be back to Castaways.
Horrible..... The dinner is great, but their brunch has just gone ro crap.
It's way too expensive for the crap food they have.
Unfortunately the quality of the food is no longer what it use to be.
The Food was overpriced , old , and cold . Was not what i expected at all .
It's really very sad that this was there last Brunch. They are still going to have them on some holidays, Easter, mothers day etc etc We love this place. We sat outside and it was beautiful out. The food was great as it always is. We understand there are new owners involved, and it will only be an event place. No more nice dinners here any more. My wife and I are saddened by this. But we wish them luck with there new adventure. Thanks so much for the great memories.

I love Castaway in San Bernardino. Everything is so relaxing and beautiful from the walk up to the restaurant on the wooden bridge over the pond with the sound of the waterfall and leading up to the large outside fireplace where one can sit and relax while waiting to be seated. Inside the restaurant you can dine while enjoying the beautiful views of the valley and the city lights below and then stroll out to the patio area where there are multiple fire pits where you can sit and relax and enjoy those spectacular views below you and all around you. The service is always top-notch and it doesn't matter how long you take to finish dinner, no one is ever rushed or told it's closing time and as long as the kitchen is open you can usually be seated even close to closing time. Unfortunately, Saturday night was the last night for the dining room as now Castaway will only be open for special events. All in all, Castaways is a magical place, high up on a hill, beautifully landscaped with spectacular views, good food and great service.
So sad they are closing for dinner it will only be open for special events
I would, but they are closing. Food was cold, service slow.
I’m so saddened by the closure of the castaway after from what I understand is 50 years in the area. It’s the most magnificent restaurant. A total loss to the community.
There is no viable reason to allow the best restaurant in the city to close except for holidays and banquets. This is a disservice to our city, our community at large. I have loved the Castaways for the last thirty years. I Iove the food, the servers get to know you by name, and the views are awe inspiring. The prices are beyond many people in the city's ability to pay. That is one reason for low foot traffic. Why $59 for a brunch?! Make it affordable for the majority: $35 is sufficient. I bet if the Sunset dinner was $19.99, way more would come. Keep the restaurant open! Please?!
Wonderful view, fantastic food and great service. We are so sad that the dining room is closing after all these years, but happy we were able to enjoy dinner here one last time.
A one of a kind view across the valleys, both East and West, and beautiful location and layout, we recommend it to everyone. Sadly, this week they are closing to public dining, only banquets, private parties, and special events, after this week. Just a beautiful place with excellent food!
Our reservation was at 6:45 Sunday night. The waiter only had five tables for the Entire time we were there. It took 2-1/2 to completely get served and pay.
Service was very slow because there appeared to be only one waiter and vrry few kitchen staff. Some of the food was beginning to cool by the time it reached the table Menu needs refreshing. View is great. Interior and exterior of the building needs maintenance. Overall not the experience we were hoping for
Service was really bad and that has never happened before.
Very delicious brunch!! Everything I tried was delicious and delectable. Made to order French toast was one of the yummiest items I’ve ever tried. Not a lot of outdoor seating with umbrellas so we sat inside. The champagne is my favorite and doesn’t leave me with a headache the rest of the day. My favorite place to go for brunch.
Everyone was very friendly and the food was amazing thank you for letting me celebrate my birthday there!
My wife really enjoyed the food and scenery. I highly recommend this Restaurant if you never been, it is worth experiencing.
Service was terrible, we had to keep hunting the waitress down for everything. The appetizers came last and the food took forever to come out, waitresses spilled water all over my friends hand while serving her.

Great place but service may be tough depending on who is working.
Amazing service with amazing food which made for the perfect night out.
Venue is somewhat dated, matre' de was inexperienced wanted to sit us at a 6 top for 2 people, waiter was slow, but polite. Overall good experience, but will not return for some time.
The prices have gone up and food down. Most of the containers were empty each time we went to get food (which was twice), omelet line was slow, French toast was good as the gentleman talked to you while making one piece at a time. Not sure when we will go back.

The their Sunday the food quality has been much better with the new chef. The variety of sea food based items (clams, mussels, sashimi, etc.) is excellent. There is a good choice of salads, melons and vegetables. The menudo and mexican food is nice in addition to several main meal selections (chicken, baked salmon, pasta, beef). They still have an omelet station, carving station and the champagne which is wonderful.
We went to Castaways expecting to have a wonderful view and good food. I made a reservation and requested a window table. (We could have had a window view table if we had been willing to wait 50 minutes which we were not.) When we got there we were seated in a very crowded room with many many customers and at a table we would never have chosen ourselves. There was only one room open in the restaurant (other than a separate room reserved for a private party) because it seems they were setting up for brunch the next day so there was virtually no choice for seating. We then had to wait about 15 minutes before we finally got someone to wait on us and at least bring us water. Our waiter had a table of 20 people and no one to help him, so he got to us when he was able to. The food was good and the steaks were nice and tender. We spent a lot of money hoping to have a special evening but the overall experience was very disappointing. I can't imagine going there again.

We were celebrating my husbands retirement. People in our party stated the food was cold. Ordered drinks and didn’t Get them but they were on the bill. Had tea and never got asked if o would like a refill. Husband cut of meat was mostly all fat. Not good for the price we paid
I cant wait to go back. The view was amazing, food, service outstanding.
Had an amazing experience for our Anniversary! Food was fantastic, service was great and the views are simply beautiful!! Definitely coming back soon!
We just had our first ever visit to Castaway and it was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made reservations for dinner @ 6:00pm on a Monday. From the moment we walked in, Armando was very attentive and helpful. He truly made our experience and our anniversary special. He made sure to sit us with an amazing view and seating away from most of the guest so that we had privacy since unfortunately we weren't able to sit outside like we initially had planned due to it being extremely cold and windy. The view was still amazing and we were even able to watch the sun set. Armando was very informative on the specials and popular dishes. He even was able to get the chef to offer us a special dish for our anniversary, a stuffed salmon. We kindly declined due to already having our choices picked out. For an appetizer we got the mozzarella sticks which were so different but so delicious, a tad greasy but amazing flavor. For our entrees my husband got the lobster tail with filet mignon along with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. He was so in love with his entire dish. I played it safe and got the fettuccine chicken alfredo. The chickens' flavor was a tad different than I expected and a little dry but the fettuccine itself was delish. Armando also was able to offer us an anniversary dessert on the house which was very thoughtful. He always made it a point to check on us and ask how we were doing or if anything was needed. I was a little worried with the initial reviews we had read on here that seemed to continuously mention the bad service they had received but Armando made sure to make our experience very enjoyable and memorable. We cannot wait to return. Armando even suggested we try their brunch and gave us tips on specific things to try. So will definitely recommend to friends and family and will return for sure.
The food was good, and the service was excellent except for having to wait quite a whlle to get an omelette. The variety and selection was minimal compared to other Sunday brunches Ive attendend. The atmosphere was great with a nice crowd
I asked my girlfriend to marry me
Everyone was superb and the food was OMG delicious!! The service was fast and everyone was courteous!!
Great food great service awesome view
