Castaway - Burbank Ratings and Reviews
We had been hearing about the Castaway Sunday Brunch since moving here 2 years ago and finally decided to go. The venue is by far, one of the most scenic high up in the foothills of Burbank. I would recommend you go just for that. We found the perfunctory greeting and check -in with the hostess staff to be inconsistent with the overall ambience of the venue and the scenic views. In other words, no warm and fuzzies at check-in. The buffet spread was vast, had many choices, but honestly, reminded us of cruise ship buffet food. Lots of quantity, but low on the quality and flavor of the dishes. The waitstaff was just ok. Lots of good service from the lady pouring mimosas, but not so much from the waiter, who we only saw twice in the 2 hours we were there. Overall, pretty mediocre for the $5w/per person asking price. It's my understanding that the dining room is now closed for renovations. I really hope that the upgrade in interior design will also include an upgrade in the overall customer service and food quality experience.
I love this Resturant my coworkers and I come every 3 months. We also celebrate Christmas and exchange our gifts there and enjoy the great food and friends. I come with my family to celebrate birthdays. I can't wait to see what great changes are in store for this great restaurant.
Castaway was absolutely incredible. My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. We received a glass of champagne on the house for our special occasion. The food is impeccable and was the best tasting food I have ever had. The view was breathtaking, and I would recommend going close to sunset. The service was some of the best you will find. I would recommend this restaurant 110 %.
Although our server was fantastic, we were not pleased with the taste of the food. My steak (ordered medium well) looked great but was very chewy, hard (overcooked), too fatty, and not flavored well at all. As far as the seafood dish for my girlfriend, she complained that it was too salty and had poor flavoring.
We did appreciate the kindness of our server and his manager to move us indoors since there was an unusual amount of bees that kept landing in our food or simply would not leave us alone on the patio. It would be great if in the new upgrades to the restaurant would include an outdoor patio area this is netted for those who want the outdoor ambiance and experience without the bugs or bees.
This place is great for a date and a very beautiful setting. My biggest issues were the fact that I was there on a date and the first 30 minutes were filled with a helicopter putting out a fire on the other side of the hill, a crying baby, loud talkers, and a toddler running around. Once all that subsided, it was a very romantic setting. Great views, great drinks, good food (very rich), awesome staff!
Totally unexpected price increase for brunch. Two 10 year olds - charge $35 each, last visit were $25 each and adult price increase to $50 each. Was definitely not worth it for the children. Was caught completely unaware. Brunch prices are not posted online on their website.
View, view and view. This place is absolutely beautiful, specifically if seating out at the patio ( for me ). Has a full bar, and enough choices on the menu to satisfy most everyone. Can't go wrong with this place for any occasion, date or just everyday dining.
My best friend from Canada came down to visit....i want to introduce this place to her and some of my other friends.....tge last time I was here was when I was 19 years old....anyways the service was wonderful....the bus boy named Roy was exceptional very attentive to us when we asked if we can move to a closer table to see the beautiful view of Burbank. Our waiter also was very nice....this was an overall exceptional experience for my friends and I.
Castaway is an amazing restaurant. The food is excellent and the desserts are astonishing. The view is amazing and at night everything shines bright and makes the evening even more special. Lastly the service is amazing. The waiters are kind and are always checking to see if everything is okay. All in all it was an amazing experience dining here.
I have been coming to Castaway for over 22 years. I look forward to dine in a new remodeled atmosphere. The selection of food is not to my satisfaction. I wish the menu would give more variety with healthy choices. The buffet on Sundays are great the only complain is to be in a organized way. may be separate stations with servers for meat, seafood, salad. I don't like the idea of people touching food
Came here to celebrate my birthday. The service was excellent! Our server, Kevin, was friendly and attentive, as was everyone who works there. Food was exquisite and the portions were the perfect size too, so we had plenty of food. Beautiful views and the ambience was amazing. I recommend this place 100%!
Disppointing. Snow crab was slightly frozsn in the middle. Noodles on my $39 seafood pasta plate tasted like they came out of a box. Lobster was so overcooked I could have bounced it from table to floor and back.
Requested appetizer forks and crab crackers for our crab and did not receive them until half way through our entree.
Medium rare Filet was brown in the middle.
This used to be a top class restaurant, but would have had better, less expensive food and better service at Sizzler.
The hostess was very friendly & accommodating... Bartender constantly ran his fingers through his long & greasy hair then made drinks w/out washing his hands... Server was really sweet but a little slow. We never got bread ... even though everyone around us had bread and we asked for some! Bussing was non existent until I asked the manager if he could remove the dirty & stacked appetizer plates! This place desperately needs a makeover and new management!
We went there for our anniversary. The food was very good. The 1941 mai tais were delicious. This restaurant has some of the best views in Los Angeles. I can't say more about the service. It was outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive and helped make for a memorable evening.
It was my first visit, I enjoyed the variety of foods, the service and dining outside. The buffets were well organized and easy to get to. The food was well stocked and fresh. I am a seafood lover, the crab legs and shrimp were fresh. It as overall a very relaxed environment, I will go back for casual dining.
