Galentine’s Day was a blast and the service is excellent. Thank you for helping us make memories!
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday with my mother-in-law, and this venue was classic yet modern, chic yet accessible
Great food; great renovation; great service. Awesome post-Valentine’s Day brunch!
We love going here, from bar drinks to food is great! Highly recommended One in a Melon and Gin Membership from their cocktails menu and you'll never go wrong with the charcuterie board!
I would recommend Castaway to a friend because the location is amazing; however, I would warn them to expect less than great service. You really have to go with your patience turned on to high. The front desk is usually lackluster and doesn't act like they're ready to help you or care that you're there. Several times we've waited way too long either at the bar for a drink and/or for food at our table. The last couple of times we had a great server but they're still at the mercy of the kitchen staff. So, the location and atmosphere are fantastic, the food is mostly great, and the service overall is mediocre to bad for the prices you're paying.
The views are fabulous. The food is not. The cheese and charcuterie board we selected - the cheese were tiny pieces. Not worth the price at all. The $44 steak didn't taste like a $44 steak and the brussel sprouts were overcooked and charred so much that they were gross. The waiter kept making off-color jokes that were awkward and kept intruding like he was our best friend. Annoying. I am hesitant to go back. It's a real shame because it's such a pretty setting.
Despite having a reservation they couldn't seat my fiancee and me inside--not enough servers at 6pm. We were seated at a table outside with no real privacy and squeezed between other guests. The food was great, especially the bread and basil butter and our steaks. The drinks were lovely as well. Unfortunately the noise from the other patrons and everyone taking selfies in front of the view made the whole experience rather eyerolling. Had we been seated inside in a booth we may have enjoyed the experience more.
From the hostess to the bartenders to the servers, amazing experience. It was my girlfriend and my first time there and also our first valentines together and it for sure met all expectations. Thank you again.
It was my birthday celebration!
We have not been to The Castaway since their remodel. It is beautiful and of course the view is still amazing! At first we were disappointed that they no longer had their spectacular Sunday brunch but the new menu had some interesting offerings! From the start our server was not attentive. We were sitting by the bar and could see her talking with her coworkers! The manager did stop by a couple times. My husband & daughter had the chicken & waffles! It said chicken breast but the bone was in with a leg attached which made it difficult to eat. I had the crab cake Benedict it was delicious but small, half an English muffin, 1 crab cake, and 1 Poached egg. The lava cake was good! All around us they sang happy birthday but our server didn’t bother. Also, if they don’t refill your glass it really isn’t bottomless mimosas.
I am a regular yelp reviewer and I have rarely written such a harsh review! Fortunately, I had the best company and that is what was important!
Love this place beautiful view great service great food.
The food was amazing, our party did not wait to be seated, and the view was priceless.
The service was great. Three different managers spoke with us to make sure all was good. The only complaint I have is that my chicken was so dry, it was overcooked. Everything else was delicious. We had the crab cakes, salad, salmon, asparagus. It was great, except for the chicken.
From Valet to dessert, we had a wonderful experience. The sunset view was amazing. Steak was seasoned perfectly! Definitely recommend
excellent! the service, food, ambiance, just great!
A bit loud to have a private conversation. , We were a small group there for a birthday party it was hard to hear people in our own party. Not bad but will note not to take a business dinner there
First time here for brunch. Brought my wife for her birthday along with our son. Service, food, and ambience was excellent highly recommended it.
We had an amazing time at Castaway! It was my first time there, and I went for my birthday. The views were stunning! It was so peaceful and relaxing! I could have stayed there forever! The food was really good, and our server, Katie, was the best! She made me feel so special for my birthday, and went out of her way to make it a special day for me! I will definitely be back!
Really nice spot in the valley. Good food, beautiful ambience, and good service. Would def recommend to try while in LA
Food was great! Ambience is superb... except it was a little noisy. The service was not bad... we waited a bit before we got any help. Didn’t get our candle lit, had to ask for a few things... it seemed our service guy was new. He didn’t seem professional but he tried and was very polite.
We had my husband's sister visiting from Niagara Falls area and she was awed by the view, food, service... our server, John F was amazing - the menu is daunting and presented like a movie script so a little hard to decipher. John walked us through it page by page. We asked his opinion on the Charcuterie board, the Butcher Block steaks supporting cast sides and the wine... we were not disappointed. We shared a board of Bresaola, Culatello, St Andre and Midnight Moon. Two of us had the Zabuton steak and my husband had the Bone in Ribeye. We shared the Potato puree, Asparagus, and roasted Brussel sprouts. My husband had the Hangar 24 orange wheat beer and I chose the Le Crema Pinot Noir for his sister and me. For dessert we shared the Yellow Submarine. The food, the view, the service makes it all worth the price.
Great service, great quality!
Great as always!
This is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. We celebrate many birthdays and anniversaries here. The views cannot be beat. The food never disappoints us. Just delicious. Presentations are superb. Service is impeccable. Known for its selection of steaks, the seafood dishes are wonderful.
Worst place for a 10 yr anniversary why did we come here
Amazing food, great service, awesome views!
Celebrated my parent’s 68 yr anniversary. This has long been their go-to restaurant for celebrations. This year was one of the most memorable. Everything came together - a superior waiter — Katie — good food, a wonderful impromptu pastry dessert concoction presented to my folks... A memorable evening all around!!
Unbelievable view, ambiance, vibes and overall experience. Service could’ve been a bit better, but overall a must go to place.
Nice place! Our waiter was very kind and attentive, she was also such a nice person brought us a little dessert for our anniversary with my GF. And the food I mean soooooooo!!! Good! I have always returned for the chicken and stayed for the ambiance! Love this place!!!
Thank you guys!
It was our anniversary and they brought out a candle lit dessert after our freaking awesome meal! We got the huge 32oz dry aged “Jorge” ribeye!! And the charcuterie cheese and meat board! The bread they bring out with a pesto -ish cheese was to die for! The place was beautiful, but the patio and the view were absolutely amazing! They have heaters for outside. It was the best night I’ve had in a long time! The service was excellent as well! We never even needed to look for our waiter Casey! He was attentive and thoughtful, and guided us to the perfect 9 year anniversary evening. Thank you!
It was okay, wish the service was a little better. Food very good price reasonable
I know it was the windy night so everyone wanted to be inside. Had to wait 30 minutes to be seated after reservation time. After that everything went better. Our servicer did the best she could with a group of over 16 to service along with a couple of other stations.
We love Cast Away! The food, the staff, the environment is excellent. We love Cindy (manager). She’s incredible!
For special occasions definitely. It's a nice place but a bit expensive.
I was familiar with Castaway before the huge renovation. It's beautiful.
But...the reasons I chose Castaway for my birthday: the fabulous brunch buffet and the fresh, made-from-scratch pina coladas. Well they don't have a buffet anymore, just a very limited menu--largely various forms of eggs benedict, not including the original which I love. They don't even have the ingredients to make it on request. I chose the steak benedict--the eggs were served on top of a crispy potato pancake and very good. But the steak was too tough to eat. I wished I'd chosen the burger.
And they only make pina coladas from powder--bar doesn't even have a blender anymore, let alone fresh coconut milk and pineapples! Since I order virgin coladas, it was disgusting! And served with a maraschino cherry and, I think, maraschino cherry juice based on how cherry it tasted.
Waiter was useless. Took forever to come to take our orders, which were not delivered by him. He never even returned to our section, let alone our table. We asked another waiter in a neighboring section to find our waiter for us. We had to ask someone to get our waiter two more times; it would have been more, but we got tired of waiting for HIM--it's his job to wait! ;-D At one point we asked for what I considered to be two things (2 small plates to share food and a glass of ice). One plate was delivered, we reminded about the 2nd plate and water. We got another plate and had to ask for water again, which eventually arrived.
The only time I had worse service was decades ago at a buffet brunch when the only two times we saw our waiter was when she came to remove the ashtray--and had to reach across my friend, who was actively smoking to get it! She never returned the ashtray. The second time we saw her was when she very aggressively confronted us in the lobby for leaving zero tip, which was exactly how much service we got. The management gave us each coupons for two free meals.
The view by itself is marvellous. The food is delicious and service is great.
Also, I was able to make a last minute reservation.
Had a wonderful first experience at Castaway. Our server, Kayla, was outstanding. The food was immaculate. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and the birth of our son - we were greeted by champagne 🥂. I’ll definitely be back!
Great customer service and food was outstanding!! The view is just amazing
It started as a nice evening, but soon devolved into a disaster! The severing staff looked like they were running around in chaos. It took our server awhile to offer water and drinks. Then she spilled part of a dish and broke a wine glass all over the table. We moved to an outdoor table. It is a spectacular view! However, the steaks were tasteless and not cooked to order. The side dishes were bland.
The manager did try to salvage my birthday night with a spectacular dessert. But we kept the same server which was a bad move as it was awkward.
Won’t be returning again! Mostly because the food wasn’t that great.
We had 3 steak dishes and one fish dish. The steaks were good but the fish was very salty. We ordered calamari and bone marrow as appetizers. The calamari were baked which was fine but it did taste a bit fishy. The bone marrow could’ve cooked longer. It was harden when it arrived at our table. You couldn’t really spread it over the bread. It didn’t taste good. Other than that, the place has a nice ambience. Water service was kinda slow once the food arrived. They didn’t fill up our water until we asked for more. This was our first time here. The food isn’t worth to go back to though. Even though the steaks were good, it wasn’t anything that you couldn’t get at a steak house.
Great views with service. A bit pricey thiugh. Receptionists were very good and other staffs too.
