I seen this place on yelp so I decided to take my boyfriend to dinner for his birthday to castaway on 1/16/2020. UNFORTUNATELY when we got there it was 7:50pm I made dinner reservations at 8pm inside and the table was not ready . What’s the point of making a reservation if we’re not going to be sat down at the specific time I reserved it for ! The women kept saying there cleaning your table, after 7minutes I went up to the women and said is our table ready ? she replied their still cleaning it up . finally she came over to us, me and my boyfriend waited 17minutes after 8pm so I was truly disappointed in that ! Other then that our waiter was incredible and always coming back to check on us ,the food was amazing I recommend the dry aged steak and the view was spectacular. I wished they gave my boyfriend a birthday dessert but they didn’t even though I specifically put birthday for the occasion . Be ready to wait ,any longer and me and my boyfriend were ready to walk out . The wait time is the reason why I didn’t give it 5stars
Great restaurant definitely a new favorite. A true hidden gem
The place was great if a bit overpriced. I don’t mind paying for quality by any means, but the food didn’t -quite- match the price point. Service was A+ all around, the feel of the place was great, if a bit too loud. Fancy and cozy all at the same time. Oh, the LED signs out front are garish and too bright. Don’t match the vibe inside one bit.
We attended Castaway to celebrate a birthday; the wait staff were great about finding appropriate seating and bringing over a portable heater (as it was chilly). The drinks and appetizers were great; then the entrées arrived. The birthday honoree's steak arrived well done instead of medium rare, which is what had been ordered. He sent the steak back and was told that it would be another 15 - 20 minutes before another could be served; in the meantime, those of us remaining had our food in front of us, so he decided he would just skip the entrée. The manager came over and basically blamed him, saying, "So, you didn't like your meal?" In point of fact, he didn't even taste the steak because it was not what he had ordered and was obviously overcooked, yet the manager's attitude was that HE was the problem. The manager ought to have: 1) apologized, 2) suggested some other entrée that could be brought out quickly (or, perhaps, a couple of appetizers) -- SOMETHING that wouldn't take 20 minutes to arrive. They removed the steak from the bill (which was only appropriate) and comped one drink. It was quite frankly the LEAST they could do.
So, the experience was mixed. The appetizers were great; the waitress we had was extremely friendly and accommodating -- but the manager totally dropped the ball when a mistake OF THEIRS occurred.
Considering the cost of eating here (roughly $100 per person), I would seriously consider training your management staff of what service is about -- because the woman on duty that night didn't have a clue.
I have been to there for celebrate my 25th Birthday. Food is okay. The view definitely beautiful! Nice place have a date.
Romantic & delicious—-everything felt top drawer and beautiful. Want to go again now!
The waiter asked me how many percents that i’m going to tip him. I always tip in most of the restaurants i went. I’ve never been asked like this before. And this is not my first time dining here. Very disappointed.
Just not my cup of tea! The chicken wasn’t what I thought it was and the waitress wasn’t very good at all. I did appriciate that they took the food off my bill. Both items actually that I never even touched.
Castaway has undergone a modern remodel, so if you haven’t been in a while you’ll enjoy the new decor and seating. Great for views, but during the day they now have the shades down, so no view. Our food was cold. Manager told me eggs benedict has to be cold, because of the sauce as if I had never had it before in my life to know it shouldn’t be cold. My husband’s fried chicken and waffles were also cold, but he didn’t mind. We came with an hour left of brunch, so you wouldn’t think they would be out of things. Based on the temp and taste of the food, it feels like it’s prepped and sits a long time. I was sick the rest of the day from the cold runny egg and sauce. Tried to charge is double and the same amount for an egg on an English muffin as their salmon eggs benedict, which was more expensive than the crab cake one they were out of even though I didn’t have crab or salmon. Maybe dinner is better?
We were looking for the old Castaway brunch. Something somewhere should tell the public looking for
same and to be told that "brunch' is a la carte was very disappointing.
Nelly was AWESOME once again!!!!!
Wonderful food. The cheese board was a treat. The fish divine. Cocktails were a little weak. Desert was fine but not up to the same standard as the rest of the meal.
The room was a little hot. Fab views. Great night out.
Exciting place, food, wine list, overlook from the hill - it’s a juwel in LA!
We'd requested a nice view since it was our daughter's 16th birthday. We were initially given the worst view in the restaurant until we asked to be moved. When arriving at the front desk to request the move, all four people were discussing something personal and paid no attention to us, though no other guests were around to distract them. It took a very long time before receiving any service at the table, and everything came slowly afterward. It was outdoors, so the portable patio heater was mandatory. Ours burned out halfway through dinner. We had to ask three different people, on three separate occasions, to assist but no one was interested in helping -- it took 20 minutes before someone looked at the heater and they quickly hauled it away, never to return. The food was average at best. Our bill for four people was $300. Our daughter did not have a good time, and, needless to say, neither did we. This was reminiscent of our previous trip to Castaways so it's not an isolated incident, and we will not be returning, and we will be advising our friends and family to follow suit.
Most beautiful view ever!! Sat outside and there were heaters, which made it very comfortable. Great food and service. I had a wonderful birthday dinner.
Didn’t know why service was so slow. Waited on every step of the meal from getting water, to entree, to dessert, to getting our check. Waitress was sweet, but waiting put a damper to the evening. Especially when other tables which came later was able to leave earlier.
Great experience! Service, atmosphere and food were all excellent. Look forward to coming back again soon...
Great views, great service, great food and drinks. Get reservation, even though place is big, it fills up.
The restaurant is sooo beautiful!
The food is testy, stylish and the prices are very affordable an average for this kind of places.
The only thing is the service.. so slow, for a table of 15 they need at least 2 waiters..
We thought everything was beautifully served and delicious. We did feel the food was slightly more expensive that it should have been. Maybe 10% too high. Other than that, we were entranced!
We took out guests who were visiting out of country. The food was not good and the service was even worst. Nothing to do with our waitress, just the training they received.
Food and the view was fantastic. Loved the "vegan" scallops. However, service was sporadic, and food took forever to come out (even for just a Caesar salad). May have just been a fluke with the service. I would definitely go back for the food and ambience and try again.
Went for a family birthday dinner. Overall the experience was good but the food was really really salty. They also brought out the wrong dish and when we told our waiter what happened he offered to bring out the correct one or to keep the one we already started eating but we didn’t want to waste food so we said we would keep it. They ended up charging full price for the one we didn’t order even though it was more expensive. They ended up giving a small discount after speaking to our waiter.
Castaway went a long way from mediocre Sunday brunch buffet to a first class restaurant
Wooden plAtters for entrees should be. Leaned better. Maybe use them as chargers? Food was abundant And good quality. Coffee needs an upgrade. Wait staff is fantastic.
Terrible service my food was cold and I had to go look for someone to help me. Waitress never came back to check. The view and atmosphere is great
Thank you for the time you have taken to share your experience. I’d like to apologize on behalf of the entire team for the disappointing service you received. Your feedback helps our team improve each day as we strive to deliver a Five Star experience to each and every guest.
The food and service were wonderful, the views amazing!
Views are lovely but service is poor and the manager can’t be bothered to care/address. Aggravating and birthday ruining.
Doesn’t encourage repeat business .
Only one minus of this restaurant is the girl's hostess. Very inhospitable and rude.
The prices, quality and taste of the food, the look and the friendly waiter were able to improve our impression of the restaurant.
Birthday , was very lovely, service and food great
One of the reasons I visit LA from Florida is to dine at this magnificent restaurant
Exceptional food, great staff, and beautiful views.
We all got pretty expensive steaks and they were pretty bland, so we felt the price didn’t match the quality of the food.
It was nice. Celebrating my wife’s birthday. The only thing I did not like was we felt a little rushed. Other than that, it was great!
Overall experience was okay. Food was nothing exceptional. Service was super slow too. The only thing I liked was the ambiance and the city view.
Dining at Castaway Burbank is always a delight. I go at least once whenever I visit LA. Unfortunately they weren't able to find my Speciality Restaurant Corp membership this time. Nonetheless it was enjoyable.
Was a big fan 5 years ago when I was living in LA. They changed menu after that. The food is a little too salty now. Service is good, but the food is kind of ok. Not impressive
Great place with good food and beautiful view of the San Fernando valley. We sat inside but the patio is heated very well so you could easily sit outside and be comfortable on a chilly evening. I used to go to Castaway in the 70’s as a special occasion restaurant. It is still very special.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant with stunning views. Can’t wait until we come back again so we can go back to this place.
Was great. Beautiful view. Nice place to have brunch on the patio when it is warmer
