Celebrating 100 years in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood, Castagnola's has been a city mainstay for almost all of that time. Along with its idyllic location setting along the scenic waterfront, it offers excellent wine, authentic sourdough bread from the local Wedemeyer Bakery and coffee roasted specifically for the restaurant.
Castagnola's menu features its trademark local seafood dishes, including the famous "Crab Louis" with a mountain of crab atop crisp romaine and a blend of tomato, carrot, hard-boiled egg and dressing. However, delectable meat, pasta and children's dishes are available too. Online reservations are suggested for this popular favorite, and you can explore the full menu on the restaurant's website.
Food was blah! My mistake was not to read any reviews before booking. Prices were high on relation of quality and taste of the food.
Wine list was really poor, and on top of that, 2 out of 3 sparkling wines listed were sold out!
The highlight of my evening was the server's assistant (busser) he was very polite, and very attentive, I saw him more than the waiter.
Service was good, and food was acceptable but not fantastic. Maybe a bit pricey for what you get. More creativity would be nice to revive this historic restaurant.
Sadly this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to for AMBIENCE. The reason is that there is a bar right next to the dining area with a piano player/singer who can neithor sing not play piano but was incredibly loud and obnoxious. It totally ruined what would have been a reasonable but not outstanding dinner for a group with 3 young adults. Even thw waiters were embarrassed and said it was awful. I think you should really let people know there is a bar next to the dining area with LIVE music. I would never have made this reso if I had known this.
Located on Fisherman's Wharf with a view of the water (not the bay). We have waited a while to write the review to see if we still felt the same about our experience. We do. They were out of one of the pasta entrees we ordered. It took the server quite some time to tell us after placing our order. Our entrees did not come out at the same time and it was as if they were avoiding us in the mean time. We had to flag down another server to fill our water while we waited for the second meal. Also, our dessert was ice cold (and it wasn't ice cream)! We ate it, laughing the whole time because no one was around to do a quality check.
Food way overpriced. Service slow. They charged me both Service Charge + 18% Gratuity automatically for a party of 2.
Food option and quality was ok and expensive for the price. Had an awful lounge singer at the bar that made conversation difficult.
Very disappointing- felt like a tourist trap. The hostess on the phone was very helpful getting us a specific table, after that everything was downhill. The yelling and off key singing from the bar overpowered the dining room. I felt like a very overpriced tourist trap- as the other reviewers said- I should have known as soon as I walked in. This restaurant is past it's prime and very overpriced.
The food is excellent and service is very good. Prices are rather high.
What a disappointment. Food not what it used to be, hardly Fisherman's Wharf. Noise level was terrible with some loud bar out in front. Should have known when we walked in.
we have always had wonderful service and great food
