The dinner offers a la carte menu that includes famous buttermilk fried chicken, mussels and fries, house made fresh pasta and burger, and also the signature 3 course prix fixe menu for $52/guest with a beverage pairing option that focuses on more creative and unique dishes of Chef Kris Toliao.

    Wait staff were well informed and knowledgeable about their menu and wines. Portions were a little in the small side and the mussels came with cheese and truffle fries but ours were just normal friends. Cocktails and food was delicious.

    We had a wonderful time at Cassava for Thanksgiving. The menu was innovative and delicious and encompassed all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes with a gourmet twist. We always enjoy coming to Cassava. The food and service is excellent worthy of a Michelin star in my opinion !

    Thanksgiving Supper - an exceptional value w/ 5! family style starters: Flaky buttermilk biscuits & sweet 🍁 🧈, 🍯nut Squash Soup w 2 Slices Truffle, Chkn Liver Mousse, Baked 🦪, Caesar🥗. We both had ½ lb Prime Rib, Truffle Mac n 🧀, Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Desserts: Warm 🍪, Vanilla Ice Cream w Espresso & 🎃 Flan 🥧, Stewed Mixwd Berries w 🍋 Curd. We're stuffed & all so delicious 😋 If only Thankgiving came more than 1/yr!

    I ordered the rock cod and it was lukewarm, I told the waiter to recook it. They only put it in the microwave to reheat it. this is a terrible thing. I won't go back and recommend it to all my friends.

    I apologize for the serving temperature of your rock cod. We want all our customers to be delighted and this was our fault. I also think there is some confusion. Our open kitchen has many options to correctly and quickly warm your rock cod. Our range has ovens that are heated throughout the day, as well as the range cooking top. We also have a large glass-door convection oven to warm a range of great food well while keeping it moist and tender. There is simply no reason for us to use a microwave.

    We attended the members dinner which is a communal seating and pre fix menu. All the pre fix menus are really a great value for the portion size especially with the artistry and quality of Kris's creativity! This was my friends' first time to the restaurant and they understood the decor and enjoyed the whole concept, the food, and wine selection by Yuka (a sommelier). The wine prices are the same as most places in SF and the selections are unique. Did not notice the noise level since we were enjoying and just experiencing. The flavors are balanced and subtle letting the main ingredient come though, There was a spice on the pork rib that we were all intrigued with, subtle, which were told inspired by an Indian rub. The affogato dessert was fun and so delicious with decaf coffee, yay for me! I am so impressed with Kris and Yuka as restauranteurs. Their innovation and creativity through all the economic hardships, surviving through the worst of Covid. with protectiveness and thoughtfulness to their employees livelihood while providing the same thoughtfulness and professionalism to patrons. I always enjoy being in the space, the food and beverages!

    The prefix menu for the restaurant week had nice choices but the main dish I chose, the rib-eye pappardelle, was pretty bland in flavor and I found some of the meat slices to be too fatty. The service was slow and could be improved. Overall the dining experience was good.

The event brings a lot of people and there are moments when our team is stretched, which can cause minor delays for some parties at peak times. We work together to minimize these delays and each year we get a little better. We are always glad to provide extra seasoning when requested for those who need our dishes tailored to their palates.

    I had been for brunch before and it was excellent but this time Went for restaurant week dinner menu- all food was bland and under cooked. The 'flatbread' was un-toasted bread with uncooked mushrooms on top and slightly melted cheese. The bacon was under cooked in the bacon and frisee salad, which usually is the best part of a salad like that. The dessert was a cold poached pear :( highly disappointed for $200 dinner

    Thank you for joining us both for brunch and dinner. We are receiving a mix of feedback on our flavors. Some are telling us they are just right, others are letting us know it may need a bit more seasoning. We are always glad to bring more seasoning when asked. While a lot of people like the way we prepare the bacon for our frisee salad, we can do it a little more crispy for you if you enjoy it more. The pear is poached in vanilla syrup and then served chilled with chocolate-dipped honeycomb crisp candy.

    Really great exp doing restaurant week. There was 4 of us and we sat outside and did the $45 prefix. And we ordered mussels and fried chicken add ons too . Everything we had was absolutely delicious and more food that we expected. The flatbread is actually like 2 slices of pizza. 1 order is large enough to share. The Niçoise salad was super refreshing. The fried chicken is 4 big pieces of succulent meat. The cod is cooked in a really unique way with a bunch of herbs ontop and was very good. I’m normally not a fish person but this was something different and worth a try. The burger was delicious. Mussels were good but maybe missing a little salt in the soup. I liked it but some of the other people at the table thought it could have been better for $28. The best part of the entire meal was the poached pear desert which had these chocolate nouget pieces ontop. Sangria was not too sweet, just the way I like it. Overall- for 4 people our total was $370 including the tip. Well worth it for how stuffed we were. Great food. Service was great. I actually think the owner was our server! I’ll be back!

    My first time trying this restaurant. The only option was the Restaurant Week Pre-fix menu, which was confusing and perplexing, especially on the breakdown of the price. Even the staff were unable to explain the menu properly. The worst part was the food. All 3-courses were, cold, undercooked, and flavorless. To add to the disappointment, the entire meal ended up costing more than twice the advertised amount, with the glass of wine being more exorbitantly priced than one at a 5-star hotel. The restaurant had the boldness to add a 25% tip. Sadly, this was terrible experience.

    Thank you for coming to try us out. We receive a mix of feedback, mostly positive. We are happy to provide seasoning for guests who need it. We offer a range of great wines at a variety of prices. This list is in the Menu section of our website. We do list the SF Mandates charge of 5% on our menu. Every restaurant contributes to SF Mandates to help workers afford health care. Most restaurants don't list it, but include it in the price of food. This means you pay for it either way. We choose to make it visible on our menu and on the check. To characterize it as “a 25% tip” is incorrect. If you feel the service fee was unwarranted for your visit, contact us with your reservation details and we will be glad to refund this portion of your check, making sure our team is not shorted.

    Fantastic three course meal with a glass of sparkling rosé. The duck was my favorite, along with the almond financier for dessert. The staff is all very friendly and the service was attentive.

    We ordered the Parker rolls, they were not ready yet so they brought us another type of bread. The marigold butter was too cold to be spreadable. Two in the party ordered the fish dish, they both came out raw. My son really enjoyed his burger. Service was friendly but they server was unable to describe any of the dishes. They comped us two meals which was kind but would not go back not recommend.

    The food was good but the wine by the glass was really overpriced. The seating was rather rustic for a high end restaurant and the noise level was way too high.

    Good tasting food. Nice enough staff. Service checks were far and few. Long waits in between each dish. Went here for SF Restaurant Week - had $65 prix fixe dinner. Heat lamp outside was not turned up enough on the chilly night. Food got cold fast as a result when it finally arrived at our table. Sitting outside noticed fishy as well trashy smells in the air which made for a less than desired outdoor dining experience (no walling off of any kind to passerbys or weather elements on the sidewalk). Was charged SF Surcharge and a set gratuity amount we could not adjust to reflect our feelings of the food and wait service. For the spend, I enjoyed the food from this James Beard Semi-finalist but there is room for improvement for food service timing and waits as well as wait staff checking in on tables to be desired.

Normally the outside lamps are sufficient and many ask us to turn them down, but the weather can sometimes get the better of them and, when asked will always turn them up for people if possible. We also have blankets to help our customers to stay cozy. We do include the service fee in the check, but you always have the option to ask us to leave it off.     Visited for the first time during SF restaurant week, ended up having to wait for some time for our desserts (about 30 minutes from when our entree dishes were cleared to being served dessert) which were all from their prix fixe menu.

    I knew I had to come back to Cassava for restaurant week, and it was a wonderful meal. I love their selection of old world wines, and really appreciated the warmth of the staff- even though it was visibly busy- as a solo diner. The Roasted Squash clearly wasn’t meant to be a vegetarian option, as it stood as its own dish. I can hardly wait to come back!

    An outstanding meal. Everything from appetizer to entree to dessert was delicious and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. Standouts were the salmon entree, and the scallop and salmon appetizers. The squash with the salmon entree was a revelation.

    We loved this restaurant when it was in the Richmond. The new place opened just recently I think. The old place had a miniscule kitchen and the restaurant was charmingly idiosyncratic. The new place is more modern, with clean lines and colors. The food is still delicious. We sat under a lovely awning outdoors at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Service was quite slow, but they were friendly and apologetic, and gifted us a drink and a bread basket. Would definitely go back.

    Lovely restaurant with a great menu. Attentive team - the owner introduced herself and was lovely - and they left me (a solo female traveller) to enjoy my meal with no rushing to get my table back. The burger I had was delicious, the wine pairing glorious and the ambience perfect. A real gem of a restaurant in a great location, I only wish I had been hungrier!

    Service was good and the dining room was attractive. The menu was eclectic and the some dishes were good and some not as good as I hoped. The fried chicken was boneless but tender. The crispy coating was tasty but it easy fell off the chicken. We found that some of the dishes needed salt and we just asked for it. The duck was well cooked but the side greens were incredibly salty. We enjoyed our wine options.

    We ordered fried chicken and mushroom bread. Both dishes were very underwhelming, under seasoned. The bread/pizza texture was like store bought spongy texture. The fried chicken was missing flavor and seasoning and the spicy Mayo sauce was not good. Overall the food was below average. The ambiance and service was very good. The sparkly wine was refreshing. And the price point for San Francisco was very reasonable.

We tend to get more positive feedback than negative on our fried chicken, so thank you for sharing a different perspective on it.     I love dining at Cassava either by myself at the bar or with a group of friends at a sidewalk table watching the lively North Beach evening go by. For omnivores, the fried chicken or the bone-in pork chop satisfies each time. My veggie friends love the composed salads and the seasonal pastas. Yuka and Kris have created a place I seek out even though I live on the other side of town. Each time it’s more than worth the trip and I find reasons to linger just a bit longer.

    What an experience we had for the annual Italian Heritage Parade in North Beach! Our table on the sidewalk was front and center for parade review, and we were able to capture all the joy and excitement while having an out of this world lunch. Service (as always) was beyond wonderful and, of course, the best food in town!

    The team continues to delight mixing signature items (like the fried chicken and duck confit) with new items (burrata and melon, liver mousse, etc.) As usual, presentation is beautiful and the flavors are elevated and often surprising. If you drink wine, don’t skip the pairings; they are perfection. Highly recommend Cassava.

    Our meal was wonderful from beginning to end. The staff was very friendly and professional. The Parker House rolls were amazing. My husband who loves duck said it was the best he had ever had. All the food is seasoned well, and nothing was too heavy.
