Casanova Restaurant Carmel
Good italian food, good service, small but a cosy place.
This is really a special restaurant. The atmosphere and the service were all great. The food is also very delicious. They have some special seafood and "chef cut" grill menu every day. I got grilled lamb and oyster during my visit and they are just gorgeous.
25 anniversary dinner with friends
Great wine list
Birthday and everything was fantastic
Overpriced! Even optional tips listed start at 20% on top of overpriced menu items!
Had a great time here! Food was amazing can’t wait to come back!
We celebrated our 10th anniversary here (after having gone here on our honeymoon), and we were just as charmed now as we were then. The atmosphere is rustic and delightful, and the menu interesting and varied. I had a chicken puff pastry (can't remember the fancy name for it!) and it was divine. Hubby had the rib eye daily special, and was equally impressed. We both tried the summer squash soup, which was an excellent starter that was just right. Indulgent desserts capped off our meals.
Perfect for a romantic meal, with enchanted atmosphere, most excellent cuisine, and very attentive staff. Love it!
Been here twice before, never disappointed. Waiter extremely attentive.
Alyssa was lovely. Great recommendations!
Love this restaurant. We had our dog with us and sat outside. It was a beautiful day. Food was great and so was the service. We will go again.
We always look so forward to dinner at Casanova’s when we visit Carmel. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff friendly and attentive. The ambience is lovely. The ricotta ravioli with mushroom was perfection.
Very charming and elegant. Very generous portions ... we couldn’t eat it all.
Casanova is always a great dining experience! Our group of 4 was seated in the Van Gogh private dining room! It is a quaint room with Van Gogh's actual dining table, framed Van Gogh china, and a book of VG history. The food was delicious...especially the lamb chops & the seafood fettuccine. While the wines were a little pricey - we found "Georis" - a great Carmel Valley red to share. Our service was terrific - just as always! Casanova will always be one of our favorites - lots of dining history during major golf tournament events!
This is one of my all time favorite restaurants. Dining here is such a special treat! The food: fantastic. The service: superb, friendly, helpful, professional. And of course the ambiance is just wonderful.
This was the best dining experience we have had in years. The food was excellent!!! The service was exceptional!!
This was our third trip to Casanova. Food was good as always. A little disappointed they didn't offer a seasonal salad of greens but the selection of appetizers we had were all very good. Our water came quickly as did the sommelier, who was very helpful with advice on pairings.
Appetizers were a litttle slow in coming out but not too bad. Main courses took a while. We were one early tables seated so the place was pretty empty when we arrived. By the time we left they were quite full so our waiter kind of disappeared.
While we like the food and love the atmosphere, we probably won't return. For the quality of the food and top shelf atmosphere, the service is simply too slow even for a sleepy, tourist town.
So yes, I'd recommend Casanova but with a caveat that the service here is more laid back and casual rather than timely and expedient. To each his own though.
Carmel is one of our favorite places and Casanova is our favorite restaurant for dinner in Carmel. We get a reservation every time we visit because its a very popular destination. Service is always excellent. They honored our request for a specific seating location as well this last visit. They have a wonderful menu and have kept our favorite entrees available for many years. It is always as good as we remember.
This was my fourth time at Casanova and is still my favorite restaurant in Carmel
Fun outside seating, although a bit cramped. But it is a small restaurant. Service was good, but they could have used more staff. Wonderful salad starter, fish was just slightly dry and over cooked, apple tart desert was to die for. We would go back.
I have been going to Casanova for years when visiting Carmel, so I did not hesitate to make reservations this time. Maybe I should have done some research. This is simply not the same restaurant:
VERY LIMITED menu - they no longer offer their full menu but rather a few offerings in each category
Service - no personality- poor service. Had to ask for everything from water with ice, to bread. Bottle of wine was opened for us, first pour, then we are on our own.
Prices - wine list is super inflated in prices. Food is very much on the high end compared to competition - that said, it was served hot and it was very good. This is the only reason for 3 stars instead of less.
We were all very disappointed. There are a lot of options in Carmel. We will not be returning until or if there is a turnaround to the previous restaurant it was for so many years. I was told by a merchant in town that the two brothers split their ties here and one went a separate path, and that since then the feedback they have heard is similar to our experience. Very sad
Holly greeted us at the door. Very nice young lady. Hannah was our server and she also was a very nice young lady. Very pleasant. William helped select our wine and he was just delightful and helpful. We wish him a successful career. We had never eaten gnocchi and it was delicious. We enjoyed our last evening in Carmel dining at Casanova.
Amazed that over the years, that they have maintained the quality, consistency, and service -- great visit when visiting Carmel
The food was good, although they were out of what 3 of us wanted to order. The service that night wasn't great. We enjoyed dining on the patio, but rarely saw our waitress.
Good for a special occasion. Approximately $100 per person for a 3 course meal with wine.
The gnocchi, vol au vent, and the seafood linguine were all excellent. Save room for dessert as well.
The food is excellent. The ambience is wonderful.AND the service is even better.
If you’re in Carmel, this is a must!
It has the Carmel feel. Waiter very nice, others seemed a bit indifferent. Food good.
Been coming here since the early 80’s. Ambiance and service are still world class. Food this time was good but not the breathtaking I’ve come to expect. I hope it was just an off day.
Best meal we’ve had in Carmel-by-the-Sea! This is a must stop for couples who want to relax and savor an amazing dinner together.
My friends and I went for a birthday dinner. I brought a bottle of wine and bought a bottle of sparkling water. Our waiter came one time and filled the tap water that my friends had but never filled my water or the wine at the table. My pasta was so over cooked that it was mushy. I couldn’t eat it. I complained to the waiter, so he knew I was not happy, but didn’t take off the bill. We had to ask him.
We had dined at Casanova in the past while visiting Carmel and had looked forward to celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary there. However, our choice this time was a debacle. Although the appetizers were quite good, we waited over an hour for our entrees to appear, watching while other diners arrived, enjoyed their complete meals, and left. When the main courses finally arrived, my wife’s seafood fettuccine had excellent fresh lobster, prawns, and other shellfish—but the fettuccine itself was limp and completely tasteless. Furthermore, our waiter never reappeared after the entrees were delivered! He must have sensed our disappointment because he appeared with a complimentary dessert shortly after we ordered coffee—but before hearing what we would have chosen. All in all, Casanova was a misbegotten venture. I doubt whether we will return.
Simply fantastic experience.
Food was great, Service was great.
We have loved Casanova in the past but this time was disappointing. We were seated close to others and it was too noisy. The waiter was not attentive either. The food was good though!
One of our favorite restaurants. Ambiance is great too.
Love this restaurant when we visit Carmel! Always amazing food, and service! Wine list is amazing but a bit pricey and corkage is too expensive to bring your own. 😞
This is my favourite restaurant in Carmel. If you’re looking for charm, romance, great food, and great service, this should be your Go To restaurant!
I used to dine at Casanova Restaurant on a fairly regular basis, until this past year. They had a well-earned and strong reputation. It was always a special experience, the vibe energetic, the atmosphere enchanting, the food exceptional and the service excellent. The meal I had recently was not worthy of their reputation. It wasn't only below the high standards I'd come to expect, but most of the food was actually uneatable. The salt level was off the charts, there was no layering of flavors, the bread was microwaved, and I ultimately and regrettably sent back course after course. My bill was still $100 and the best part of the meal was the server who was as attentive as he was gracious. I won't be back and already miss my favorite restaurant!
Loved this little hidden jewel. There is a great inside patio, very cozy, laid back vibe. The wine list was quite extensive. I ordered the peach and fennel plate. It was amazing!!!!! Unlike anything I have ever had. The hint of lavender was perfect. I am so glad I discovered this little spot and will make it one of my regular go tos when in Carmel. I can’t wait to go back!!!!
Casanova continues to amaze there are typically 2 or 3 other dogs there, but everyone is well behaved.
This time we had the peaches with fromage blanc and the burrata with tomatoes - both excellent, but the peaches truly raising the bar to a new level, with the fruit perfectly ripe & sweet, yet firm enough to add crunchiness to the dish - then smoked ribeye - amazingly tender with a hint of smoke - short ribs - served in a small Staub pot on top of carrots & polenta - and vol au vent. Delicious peach tart & molten chocolate cake rounded out our dinner.
Casanova's wine list is quite a read, with rare & old gems to delight the most demanding enthusiasts.
The food was very good, but our waiter did not seem very interested in providing good service. We often waited much longer than we should have to get his attention and responses to our needs.
