Casanova Restaurant Carmel
I have been going to this restaurant for 30 years. For the last 5 years the food has been going down hill. The menu is now extremely limited and the chef has a huge ego. When I didn't see a green salad of any kind on the menu I asked for one. Then I was told "green lettuce" wasn't in season. Really? In May? In California?
The manager came over and insulted me by saying with extreme disdain in his voice, that they didn't carry iceberg or romaine lettuce, like he thought I ate at McDonalds or something. Little did he know that my husband is a renown chef from Sonoma County...
I will forever now shout from the roof top, "DON'T GO THERE!!!"
Food is inconsistent. I have dined there 3 times in the last two month. The food was disappointing the last two visits, specifically the larger serving of the gnocchi. Too little gnocchi, too much sauce. The food cost of gnocchi is next to nothing, so for $28 the portion size should be greater and quality should be much better.
Food and wine recommendations were excellent. Atmosphere was quiet and romantic for my wife and I. Expensive dinner but we thought it was worth it.
We enjoyed the service, food and ambiance. Expensive.
A true must go to while in Carmel. The food is amazing, but be prepared to spend for it. Also with the wine. They have an outstanding list with many rare finds along with a few value options. The patio is pet friendly as well
The food and atmosphere were delicious! The spinach gnocchi appetizer was especially memorable. Will go back again if ever in the area!
We were pleased to find out that Casanova has returned to its former excellence. It has been one of our favorite places in Carmel for a long time--but for a short time the menu went a little different and it was not as good as usual---but it is absolutely wonderful again. Everything was delicious ! from the appetizers to the deserts!!! And our service was fabulous. We had the nicest young lady serve us---- It was a lovely and delicious evening all around. Highly recommend it.
This was truly one of the best meals of my life. The blend of French and Italian cuisine was refined. The French onion soup, gnocchi appetizer, and pasta entrees were out of this world. Get the cannelloni with braised short rib!
Cute restaurant, but small tables and loud due to large group. Food is expensive and portions are small
Came on our anniversary and enjoyed all service and food
Delicious meal, top notch service. We celebrate here every year after running Big Sur Intl Marathon.
Perfect lunch. An interesting wine list, provocative salad and great pasta!
We’ve loved Casanova for many years. Today we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Upon our arrival we were presented with celebratory glasses of Prosecco. The food was delicious! Artichoke Panzanella, favs bean & smoked salmon tartine, black cod with mushrooms, & a strawberry rhubarb tart for dessert. A wonderful place to celebrate!
very disappointing food and service levels - been here many times but this one was a bust
The best spinach gnocchi I had in USA soil. They also have a great wine list.
The folks at Casanova’s are congenial and the food, especially the gnocchi, is really wonderful!
The menu didn't offer too many good choices. My ravioli with mushrooms was quite tasteless. Prices are quite high and the food was rather disappointing.
Very Romantic, amazing food and service, honoured all of our requests before arriving!
Beautiful, excelent warm service, delicious food!!!
Thanks for everything
We had a memorable evening. Our party included my 92 year old Mother. We were seated at a lovely table in the back. STEVEN was our capable server. He was exceptional and especially kind with mom. The Cocktails were delicious and the pour was generous. The food was imaginative, fresh and delicious. We will be back.
The experience was fun and the service was good, but the food wasn't good enough to go back or recommend to a friend. The gnocchi app was really good, but he steak and beef cannelloni entrees just weren't terribly inspired. Too many great options to choose from.
This was a very fun, enjoyable experience. Great ambiance and the service is so good it makes me wonder if the restaurant is employee-owned. The spinach gnocchi was outstanding, my wife thinks the best appetizer she ever had. She had the spinach cannelloni which was very good, I had the linguine vongole which was also very good, but neither was outstanding (hence the 4 stars). Will definitely come back, now one of our favorite restaurants in Carmel.
As always, awesome service. We adore the ambiance. My meal was great but my wife was a little disappointed this time. She ordered the cod and it was undercooked. She asked to have it taken back to finish it properly but it still wasn’t cooked. They did offer to bring her something else but she was ready to move on to desert. We’ve been to Casanova’s many times in the past 18 years. This was our only less-than-perfect experience.
The food is great. The wine list is impressive but the wine list by the glass is the best I have ever seen. The service is attentive but not intrusive.
Amazing food, service, and experience. We'll always come back and visit this restaurant when we're in Carmel.
I would recommend with slight reservation. The menu has changed at Casanova and some of our long time favorites have been eliminated or changed. The new escargot appetizer is not very good...it is not the traditional escargot...it's roasted snails on a small plate with spring vegetables. The very expensive seafood linguini was over sauced and really lacking seafood. My wife had the salmon, and in her words it was "terrible".
So sorry , maybe it was an off night, this place has always been our favorite restaurant in Carmel. It is worth trying just because the atmosphere, service and wine list.
excellent food and great services. Everyone was very friendly the place is very clean.
Romantic dinner! Hope we’ll be back soon!
Casanova is our favorite restaurant in Carmel. The ambiance is lovely with cozy rooms and nice lighting. We had delicious pasta dishes including cannelloni and pasta with pesto sauce. Great service as well.
Unbelievable service and Meal. Will be sure to return when in Carmel.
We had an early reservation as Casanova's on the last night of a seven day visit to Northern California. We knew it would be a great evening when we ended our eight hours down and back visit to Cambria via Highway 1, by pulling right up front opposite the entrance and being told it was a legal parking spot!
Our first visit was probably thirty years ago, but we liked it then, so returned.
Outdoor seating is a bit misleading, as while all of the dining areas are covered, the middle of the restaurant is open to allow a tree access to outdoors. Kind of reminds me of Le Vallauris in Palm Springs.
We tried each of the daily market specials one as an appetizer and then as an entree, and together with the items offered on the menu were uniformly excellent. Phillip our waiter was also great offering a custom cocktail to start and then a nice sparkling wine for dinner.
Overall a terrific experience, and while $270 for two if not an everyday event, it was not outlandish and will definitely be on our list the next time we are in town.
Wonderful service, helpful recommendations, fabulous food. Would love to see a slightly broader menu, but certainly no serious complaint here. Substantial wine cellar and knowledgeable people.
Highly recommended by the people in Carmel, but it fell short of my expectations. Great ambiance.
Fantastic restaurant for any special occasion. To die for Gnocchi and Cannelloni. Great ambiance and even better service.
Food was amazing, service was great
The food and service were excellent!!
Once the party of 4 behind us departed (and fortunately that was not too long after we were seated) the noise level was never a distraction or interruption.
Outstanding service and best Italian food ever. A “must” place for dinner in Carmel.
Food was very flavorful. Pork chop was perfectly cooked with enough veggie on the side. Seafood pasta tasty with tender handmade pasta, but a bit too much sauce in the pasta. Mushroom soup a bit too acidic but probably due to no cream in it. Cute setting. Dining rooms are divided into small areas and that keeps the noise down a bit for us. Will return.
Very bad experience. Our reservation was for 7:30 and we were not seated until about 8:15. We were there to celebrate my son’s 40th birthday. There is no bar so we were left standing in a small room between the front door and front desk. The hostess was not very nice at all. At 8:00 my daughter asked if we could get some drinks (why did we have to ask?) They brought some bread and tapenade. We were finally seated and the sommelier was very nice and did not charge us the corkage for the 40 year old wine we brought. Not a very good 40th celebration
