Casanova Makawao Ratings and Reviews
Casanova is one of our family's favorite restaurants. The service is friendly but not over the top. The food is tasty and the portion is generous. We went recently on a Friday night. It was busy but our table was ready at the reservation time. Since it was a Friday, it was a little more noisier than usual. The specials were great. We loved the risotto with funghi. Parking was a little tough, but there was a big public parking lot just before you enter into the busy part of Makawao and it's only a 5-min walk away.
It had been years since my last visit, so decided to try my old stand by. Arrived at 7pm for a 7:15 reservation and was seated on time. Being a Saturday night, I had forgotten it was also a dance club later on. More on that later.
There were clearly many large parties set up with reservations, and I don't think they were taking walk-ins so it was a busy night. My server was very sweet and nice, but having difficulty handling all her tables. I ordered the brussel sprouts and tagliatelle Osso Buco for dinner. It took 30 mins for the Sprouts to arrive, then another 30+ mins for the pasta. Since I was in no rush it didn't matter at the time. To be fair, the kitchen was probably backed up too. Another guest had walked up and given me a ticket to the "show" that was starting at 9pm, so I figured I'd wait to check it out. Unfortunately the 9pm show did not start till almost 11pm, and was not the "reggae" that I had expected.
If you are not into the vibe of a nightclub when you're eating, be sure to arrive and leave early before 9pm. Other than this, I would definitely recommend for dinner.
Nice and clean Italien fare, not overly sauced or cheese covered. The pizza and pasta were very fresh and tasty. Service was very friendly. Beautiful vertical garden off the back room. would benefit from a refresh. They could leverage the cool bar area. Acoustics are difficult in the back room.
Have eaten here many times from 1992-2006 ,been away since . Always noisy, but my hearing is worse and so was the noise. Used to know Steven.
Food was average , my veal was not good ,bread was not warm. Pressed chicken had no decent veggies.
Price was only saving grace.
Wait staff cleared while my wife was eating.
Won’t be back or recommend.
I owned my own restaurant. So I am educated here.
We had a great meal! I always ask to be seated near the garden towards the back. More than not it works out. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I commented on how I will have to eat there every week for a while to start trying all the fabulous choices. It took me a bit to decide. Delicious!
I loved it more in the past. Service isn’t as timely, and the spaghetti and meatballs aren’t as good. They could also rotate their wines by the glass selections. The calamari remains the best on the island, and my friends raved about their meals. It’s still a gem...it just needs some polishing.
Always love coming here. Prices in Hawaii tend to be so high, some restaurants have one menu item starting at $50+, this place is much more reasonable, and at the same time very delicious. High end meal at decent price. I had filet mignon, since it was our anniversary, and it was delicious. We came at happy hour, so we got great price on drinks, also. Great pasta dishes, made from scratch there, & great service. Beautiful atmosphere also.
The best Italian restaurant on Maui. Not a tourist trap, primarily repeat locals. Not in any of the main travel area's, but well worth the drive. The warm Spinachi salad is wonderful, the linguini with clams is so light and delicate, it is difficult not to eat the whole dish. The Carbonera and the veal marsala are equal to the so called best on the mainland. The noodles are house made, and light and delicate, making all the pasta dishes something to savor. The corkage fee is reasonable at $15. Reservations would be recommended since it is a popular local hangout for dinner.
We had a great time celebrating our friends 50th birthday. Service was excellent and great reatauranr. We have been here now 4 times. We are from Vancouver Canada . The only thing this time was we ordered a pizza and the crust was completed burnt and we had to flag our waitress to mention it and had the pizza redone. The saving point was a complimentary dessert for our birthday boy and a complimentary appetizer. We would definitely come back to your restaurant and will recommend our friends to come to this place . Thank you
We had reservations the day after the big storm that wiped out electricity on Maui. There was no way to cancel the reservation- I couldn’t leave a message and their voicemail said the restaurant was closed. Open table didn’t respond when I hit the cancel button. I know you want us yo cancel but I was unable to successfully do it. We really wanted to eat there but they were advising no travel with trees and power lines down.
Appetizers set the rating and Casanovas did not disappoint. Dinner was excellent and topped it all with a beautiful Brulee. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Our out of town guests gave it a big thumbs up....and they are no food slouches...LOL. Mahalo for a wonderful evening!
Our friends had the chicken which was moist and flavorful and excellent! My husband always has a vegetarian pasta that he, obviously, loves. I had the salmon special that must have been a "small plate" because it was definitely a mini portion! The quinoa served with it was excellent but, sadly, the salmon was quite dry. I wouldn't have it again. Next time I'm going for the chicken!
We had family in town so took them to Cassanova's for a great dinner. My grandson had the spaghetti and meatballs - there was so much that even a 17-year old couldn't eat it all! My daughter-in-law had a creamy chicken pasta (darn! I can't remember what it was called!) that was excellent! I had the spinach salad which is always fabulous! Plus I had requested to be seated by the "dance floor" (no musical group that night) which was a perfect location when you have an active 3-year old along!
My wife and I rented an Ohana (guest house) in Makawao walking distance from Casanova, could tell it was a local favorite, and were happy to see them on Open Table. My $0.02 is that this gem of a ristorante is the perfect blend of Americanized Italian food and Hawai'ian hospitality! Their "Paglia e Fieno aI Funghi," homemade linguini with wild Italian porcini mushrooms in creamy garlic sauce, was lick-the-bowl delicious! :)
Our friends from Italy prefer to eat Italian food everywhere they go. They are hard to impress and quick to critique. They found Casanova to be EXCEPTIONAL and wished they had known about it earlier in their trip so we could have eaten there every night!
