Casanova Makawao Ratings and Reviews
The best Italian restaurant on Maui. Not a tourist trap, primarily repeat locals. Not in any of the main travel area's, but well worth the drive. The warm Spinachi salad is wonderful, the linguini with clams is so light and delicate, it is difficult not to eat the whole dish. The Carbonera and the veal marsala are equal to the so called best on the mainland. The noodles are house made, and light and delicate, making all the pasta dishes something to savor. The corkage fee is reasonable at $15. Reservations would be recommended since it is a popular local hangout for dinner.
We had a great time celebrating our friends 50th birthday. Service was excellent and great reatauranr. We have been here now 4 times. We are from Vancouver Canada . The only thing this time was we ordered a pizza and the crust was completed burnt and we had to flag our waitress to mention it and had the pizza redone. The saving point was a complimentary dessert for our birthday boy and a complimentary appetizer. We would definitely come back to your restaurant and will recommend our friends to come to this place . Thank you
We had reservations the day after the big storm that wiped out electricity on Maui. There was no way to cancel the reservation- I couldn’t leave a message and their voicemail said the restaurant was closed. Open table didn’t respond when I hit the cancel button. I know you want us yo cancel but I was unable to successfully do it. We really wanted to eat there but they were advising no travel with trees and power lines down.
Appetizers set the rating and Casanovas did not disappoint. Dinner was excellent and topped it all with a beautiful Brulee. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Our out of town guests gave it a big thumbs up....and they are no food slouches...LOL. Mahalo for a wonderful evening!
Our friends had the chicken which was moist and flavorful and excellent! My husband always has a vegetarian pasta that he, obviously, loves. I had the salmon special that must have been a "small plate" because it was definitely a mini portion! The quinoa served with it was excellent but, sadly, the salmon was quite dry. I wouldn't have it again. Next time I'm going for the chicken!
We had family in town so took them to Cassanova's for a great dinner. My grandson had the spaghetti and meatballs - there was so much that even a 17-year old couldn't eat it all! My daughter-in-law had a creamy chicken pasta (darn! I can't remember what it was called!) that was excellent! I had the spinach salad which is always fabulous! Plus I had requested to be seated by the "dance floor" (no musical group that night) which was a perfect location when you have an active 3-year old along!
My wife and I rented an Ohana (guest house) in Makawao walking distance from Casanova, could tell it was a local favorite, and were happy to see them on Open Table. My $0.02 is that this gem of a ristorante is the perfect blend of Americanized Italian food and Hawai'ian hospitality! Their "Paglia e Fieno aI Funghi," homemade linguini with wild Italian porcini mushrooms in creamy garlic sauce, was lick-the-bowl delicious! :)
Our friends from Italy prefer to eat Italian food everywhere they go. They are hard to impress and quick to critique. They found Casanova to be EXCEPTIONAL and wished they had known about it earlier in their trip so we could have eaten there every night!
Our dinner was underwhelming. This Italian restaurant uses pre-shredded cheese on their Caesar salad. The entrees came out 5 minutes after we received our salads, so they sat there while we tried to rush and finish our first course. The decor and furnishings are over due for an upgrade. We were hoping for a great experience but as it turns out it didn't happen.
We always LOVE it here. Food is phenomenal. Waitress seemed a little distracted and did not really attend to us very well - which is disappointing because as a large group we were charged the automatic 18% gratuity. We waited for water refill several times. Once, she filled only 2 glasses and then went to take a wine order from another table. Then we asked to take home what was left and she took 2 plates, packed them, brought them back and then went to another table...but there were still 4 plates to pack. Other than the service on this particular night - everything was awesome.
Very disappointed. Looked up Menu on Website. My wife found something she liked and ordered the Pasta Portofino with seared Sacllops. Price on website is $16.
We ordered and she was asked if she wanted the scallops and the answer was yes. I ordered a Pizza. My wife's meal arrived and we waited 20 more minutes for my Pizza to make an appearance. When the bill came we found out the Portofino was $26. $10 dollars more than indicated on the menu.
We call this bate and switch! The time took for my meal to be served after my wife received hers is totally unacceptable.
Everyone was wonderful to work with especially with almost 20 in are party. The Birthday Boy was surprised by a free slice of tiramis for his birthday cake. The food was diverse and the aromas made you want to take a bit out of everyone s one dinner . Happy hour also supplied you with very large crafts of regular name drinks. Well be back..
