Casanova Italian Restaurant
At the main crossroad of Historic Makawao town, Casanova is a must do experience after a visit to Haleakala National Park.
A classic: egg, cream, bacon, sweet onions and green peas.
Large ricotta and spinach dumplings, served with home made tomato sauce and a creamy gorgonzola sauce
Calamari deep fried and served with a caper and garlic mayo.
First of all, Casanova’s remodel is a pleasant update, brighter and airier but still retaining its vintage charm. The noise level was quite loud however.
The food was amazing! Probably one of the best meals since leaving New York some 30 years ago.
Great enhancements kudos to Josh and your Team! We’ll be back :)
Casanova is a tasty, inexpensive fun place to have dinner. We enjoyed our food
tremendously and the server was friendly, funny, and efficient. It is one of our favorite places in Makawao and we return frequently. We are so glad they have endured through the pandemic and hope they continue to thrive!
I had an errand to Makawao and decided to grab a bite to eat on my own. I saw that Casanova had gluten free pasta, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered it with the bolognese sauce, which was delicious. The pasta was a tad soft, but beggars can’t be choosers with gluten free options. It’s just a vehicle for the sauce and parmesan cheese, which was truly delicious. I also ordered the four small meatballs for a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy the meatballs. They were very chewy and I was taking bits of cartilage or something out of my mouth. I love meatballs and only wound up eating 2 of the four since I didn’t enjoy them. The server was great, patient with my wheat questions, happy to help with recommendations (she suggested the bolognese and the glass of Cabernet that I ordered). I would definitely give Casanova another try and just skip the meatballs.
It was a very busy evening, but the staff made mistakes that they shouldn’t have. Food was great, pricing was good.
Lamb chops were perfect. They no longer serve our favorite wine, but our server found us a comparable bottle.
I'm new to the area and heard good things about the food here. To be honest, I was a little worried when we went in. The space is in need of a reboot and is clearly not the reason to dine here. However, and it's a big however, the food more than makes up for it! Everything we tried from the menu was exceptional. The service was a little quirky but nice - no complaints there. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
Sasha was a excellent waiter. Friendly and very attentive. Both our meals were prepared just as we expected.
Always one of my favorite restaurants. I am a kapuna & have been avoiding indoor dining but the changes Casanova's has made make it feel very comfortable & safe. They have exceeded social distancing requirements, all staff are masked & are attentive, yet take care to avoid unnecessary contact. Highly recommended! And oh yeah-- food is ono!!
Our Go To for Italian in Up Country. Sat at the Bar, excellent service, cold beer and the dinner was served hot and plentiful.
A must go if you’re in upcountry Maui, we love this place !
The restaurant is under new ownership and our first couple of experiences after the changeover were not exemplary. However, this time everything was WONDERFUL. We were seated immediately upon arrival and were happy to see social distancing in practice, as well as the thorough sanitization. Our food was fresh and delicious. I recommend the lasagna, spaghettini alla checca, and the caprese salad. We were a bit disappointed to learn that our favorite appetizer is no longer available (Polenta with portobello and a delicioius gorgonzola sauce) and that they now charge for the foccacia, which used to be complimentary with a meal. But overall, we had a really lovely dinner with attentive but not obtrusive service, great food, and a peaceful and happy atmosphere.
Good ambiance, service was ok. The waitress was good, helpers weren't that great after having our salad the helper set our forks on the table after we had set it on our bread plate. Had to ask for new forks. Or meals were delicious. Overall a good experience.
We love the food, we come to eat there at least once a month. Mora makes it a wonderful experience every time.
Food was delicious
Food and service were great. I am still waiting for your accounting department to add the tip onto my credit card.
Great food, service and ambiance.
Casanova is good, fun and dependable . Josh has done a great job!
Everything was perfect! Love the new remodel. Our server was very attentive and helpful.
The food was outstanding, and it was such a safe and sanitized place. Wait staff so polite and attentive. High recommend
So lovely. Easy going. Food was very flavorful. Service was fine.
Our first night dining out since the reopening of restaurants was a great experience. The tables were spread apart and all staff wore masks. We wore masks when we were up and about as well. I love the changes of the recent remodeling, it is open and fresh while maintaining its cozy upcountry vibe. The food was fantastic. We ordered the Lamb and the Mahi special. Finished off with chocolate mousse cake. It really couldn’t have been tastier. Can’t wait to go back.
The food offered at Casanovas is prepared by chefs (not cooks) who make excellent sauces. Evens the drinks are good. Go see the fireplace.
The newly remodeled Casanova’s Restaurant is bright and beautiful.
It was a great dinner, perfect for the four of us. Food was yummy. Love the locale.
Very professional and good food and ambience.
The chefs make excellent sauces and season everything perfectly
No need salt or ground pepper
First time back since pandemic closure. The interior looks airy and clean. Tables were distanced apart. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Some mix ups with our meals but they got it right after all. Would define return here.
Casanova's is simply one of the best Italian restaurants in the United States. The food is consistently marvelous, the staff is friendly, fast, and accurate, and the overall ambience is very welcoming.
Casanova's food is on a level with the fine restaurants of Italy. And the wine list is excellent and not expensive.
If you're going to Hawaii, Casanova's, and the lovely historic town of Makawao, is not to be missed.
Love the new decor/improvements!! Had a wonderful anniversary dinner - steak was delicious and squid ink pasta incredible.
We sat up on the stage and there was no air flow so it was really hot. Other than that everything was great and we love the new layout. It’s nap nice and bright. We love it!
The new owners revamped the entire restaurant from new carpeting, tables, fireplace, renovation on the dance floor converted to a seating dining area. We felt so comfortable with the 6 ft spaced tables due to the (covid-19 CDC regulations) and were amazed and raving about our outstanding tasteful meals, ambiance, professional management and wait staff. Hats off to the new owners & staff of Casanova’s Makawao for such a pleasant dining experience.
Food and service were outstanding.

Certified chefs combine herbs (endive and capers with ahi for the special) to awaken our taste buds ... the food is better than with the previous owners ... What a surprise to see the fireplace that was hidden behind a wall for the dance floor !!! The bar is the same, just fewer seats. It has such an open feel with the booths removed. Of course it’s expensive but they graciously provide any special requests and the food continues to be outstanding. The pizza station remains, reminiscent of when my daughter was small and would sit there as long as allowed, creating her meal while chatting with the pizza chef. We are grateful to be able to dine in and be served. I’ve been going since they opened and feel so happy to live within walking distance if I drink too much. It was pleasantly quiet until the music came on ... speakers by bar caused the drinkers to shout ...
New owner now charges for the focaccia bread which used to be complimentary. My spaghetti bolognese was only OK. Linguine vongole was very good.
The restaurant has just reopened in quarantine style so the tables were far apart. However, the ambiance with great. The restaurant has been remodeled with high beam ceilings and a fireplace element. My only quibble is the caesar salad wasn't as good as I remembered....maybe the dressing wasn't as "zippy" as before? The entrees were both delicious and we treated ourselves to dessert. The creme brulee was fabulous. The wait staff was very welcoming.
First of all they do not subscribe to Open Table anymore. Secondly, The menu is not as stated on this site. Thirdly, You have to pay $12 for a glass of wine and you don't even know what you're getting, Fourthly, They did away with happy hour. I have to say however, the service was very good and expedient.
Friendly and attentive server. Portions of dinner meals seemed small. I usually have enough spaghetti to take home but tonight I finished the meal. For the price charged, pasta is expensive here I guess. The interior here needs refreshing badly also.
I've had lunch in the bistro, which is so-so. The restaurant is a different story. Fantastic. Apparently there is a new owner, obviously doing a fantastic job. LIKE.
