Casa Nonna - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
I’ve eaten here several times for lunch but dinner was a bust. Waiter was completely inattentive. Having to ask for something as simple as bread took 3 attempts. Asking for tomato to be added to burrata was met with a curt “no, the chef won’t do this”. Seriously? Never offered us dessert menu. Will remember next time not to sit between 2 tables of 5 on either side of us as they got great service. On a positive note, the chicken parmigiana was awesome
One of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. First night in NYC and came here on concierge’s recomendation. Starting with the positives : Welcome was good. Server was pleasant. Ambiance was pleasant. The negatives: They had run out of the first few drinks we asked for. The food was average to poor. There was a 45 minute delay after the starters before the main courses came out and my younger daughter was too tired to eat hers. When we asked how long a bowl of ice cream for dessert would take we were told the kitchen was busy so maybe another 15-20 mins. So we decided to call for the check and leave. Up to then I would just have written the evening off to experience but what happened next caused me to write this review. The manager came over and asked how we had enjoyed the evening. I asked if he wanted an honest answer and he said he did. I explained the above and expected he would apologise and perhaps offer to get the ice cream personally or knock my daughter’s main course off the bill. He said nothing and just walked off to the next table to ask them how they enjoyed their meal.
Very attractive and warm restaurant with an upscale feeling, although we didn't feel out of place in slightly casual dinner clothes. We all enjoyed our dinners, the food was excellent. Held back on a five-star rating because our waitress' bedside manner was not up to par considering the price of the dinners or the otherwise terrific atmosphere.
I love this place! I used to work nearby, which is how I discovered it. Now I don't work anywhere near and go out of my way to come back as much as possible. They have a fabulous happy hour and everything on their menu is delicious. The staff is always pleasant and accommodating. I highly recommend!
I don't usually leave reviews, but this place left me so disappointed. Service was incredibly slow. It took atleast 10 minutes for someone to greet our table, then another 15 minutes for someone to explain the menu to us. Then, after placing our order, it took about 30 minutes to receive our entrees. It felt like we were forgotten about. The food looked like it had sat under a heat lamp for too long and was dry. I was very unimpressed with the flavor of my dish, it tasted like something I could've gotten from the freezer section in the grocery store. The only good part about the whole experience was the bruschetta, it was very good. Other than that, I can't think of one good thing about the experience. The décor was nice I guess. Because the service took so long, we were unable to visit the Bryan Park winter village nearby. Terrible value for the money. Would not recommend and will not be returning.
This was my fourth visit to this restaurant. It is a gem in midtown. The restaurant is large and provides ample room at tables, unlike many NYC restaurants. On the last visit we were greeted like old friends and the manager was attentive to our table. We had a terrific meal! The gnocchi with lamb sausage is to kill for and the wine list gave us some terrific choices, like a lovely Barbarescco. We were celebrating a friends birthday and the restaurant graciously served us a round of Prosecco and a dessert for the table. My friends were all impressed at the level of service and attention received and they all commented on the deliciousness of the food. I will be back to this gem of a restaurant!
We had our daughters 5th birthday dinner here. The food was delicious and service was wonderful! We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, appetizers and a delicious meal. It was perfect for the whole family. We felt like we were getting a fine dining night out but it was kid-friendly and my daughter loved the food! The staff brought out a piece of chocolate cake with a candle and sang happy birthday making it such a special dinner for her. Highly recommend!
My mother-in-law and her college friends were very impressed with the service at Casa Nonna. They were brought glasses of champagne in celebration of their reunion after the hostess learned they had chosen Casa Nonna since they had enjoyed it so much a year or two ago. We continue to recommend Casa Nonna to friends who want a classy yet not overcrowded place to relax and enjoy a varied Italian menu perfect for big eaters as well as light eaters.
The restaurant was very busy with diners and parties. Somehow our service broke down. After our food was served, we were forgotten. Had to summon another server and the manager. We have dine there many times before, and the service is normally excellent. We will not let this one lapse affect our decision to go back. The food is excellent. The buyer it ravioli are the best!
Cassandra Nona not only has good food, but is one of the very few good restaurants near penn station and the garment center. We had a lovely lunch. I had pasta - authentic and fresh. My friend had crab cakes which came over a chopped vegetable ratatouille type base. Looked delicious and she loved it. Definitely worth checking out.
Very disappointed after reading some of the reviews of this restaurant. Food was nothing special and overpriced for what we were served and the waiter seemed to forget we were there a few times during the course of our meal. The best part was the bread they brought out before our meal. We won't be going back.
Our group had a delightful time at Casa Nonna. Our server made every effort to ensure that we were taken care of, and we followed his recommendations for the right pizza as appetizer with great results! One of our party got a huge slab of Cod, expertly cooked and presented beautifully; one got a perfect skirt-steak, marinated and cooked to perfection; one enjoyed the chicken over salad immensely, and I loved the eggplant-and-lamb sausage gnocchi. The portions are correct-sized, as opposed to huge, the service is great, and the prices are very reasonable for that level of quality in that part of town.
