We are proud to bring the flavors of Old (vecchio) and New (nuovo) Italy to the table. From classic dishes that the Genova family made on Sundays for family dinner to new and unique twists on Italian cuisine, every dish is made with love.
Second time we have dined here and the food was superb both times. We'll be back.
We always enjoy dining at Casa Italiana! Food was delicious! Our servers Amanda and Bethany met our every need! We loved them! Love the small intimate atmosphere!
I’ve eaten there several times and it is always a great experience. Food and service were perfect. He had lasagna that I recommended. I had beef ravioli at the waitress’s suggestion. Delicious! I’ll be back soon.
Casa Italiana is one of our favorite restaurants. Consistently delicious with friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Wonderful. Simply perfect. And the service so kind!
Relaxing and conducive to lingering over good food and conversation.
Anytime I walk into a place that has a bar but no bartender, my radar goes off. That usually means waitstaff will stop what they are doing to make a drink, beer and wine is easy, but a cocktail you are taking your chances. Disregarding my own instincts I ordered a cocktail and 20 minutes later, after I had an app and a salad, my drink showed up. Not good. Waitstaff was generally good. Food. Look. You can tell an Italian restaurant by two things: their meatballs, and their chicken. I just expect good sauce and properly cooked pasta so its these two thing that will tell the tale. I had the chicken parm. The chicken should always be scalopinni, then pounded to ensure tenderness. This was. It was good. The sauce was good, the chicken tender. Then they plopped it down on top of a serving of spaghetti so when you tried to cut the chicken it just smushed down into the pasta. Use two plates, one for the chicken, one for the pasta. But believe me, it was very tasty. I eschewed another cocktail for wine, which was still slow in coming but better. Cannoli for desert was fantastic, great filling nice crust. So if it sounds like I'm basing this whole review on my personal tastes and feelings about how things should go, that's exactly what I am doing: you should never have to wait 20 minutes to get a cocktail and one should never ruin there great chicken parm by turning into something that it isn't.
Great service, excellent food.
Fourth visit and always perfect.
VERY good Italian food! The pasta is homemade and everything is extremely fresh!
Came here on a whim, the kids wanted Italian and wanted to try something different. We made a reservation just in case. It was very easy to make reservations online. Unpin entering it was very empty. We showed up about 6pm. The food was all very good and flavorful. The wine was a little overpriced for what I got when I can get the same wine at the store, but I understand it’s a restaurant. We got some appetizers and they were plentiful and a good portion. The mozzarella was home made. The bruschetta was also very good. All our plates were a good portion and very good. Towards the end of our meal the place was hopping. All the tables were full and you could really tell the people were enjoying themselves. Overall a very good meal. Everyone was very nice.
We were seated in the corner with the shades pulled we were still facing the bright evening sun. It was so hot with the sun that we were honestly uncomfortable for the entire meal. We had someone order a salad with no onions - it was delivered with onions. We had a person order lobster ravioli and we were given crab ravioli. Overall not a good experience. My advice to the owner:
1. Invest in curtains for the sun set time that hits that restaurant every day
2. Talk with kitchen on accuracy of orders
3. When your customers tell you they have had not the best experience offer something to make them happy or get them to give you another try
4. Certainly do not make the customer wait for a long time on signing the bill once they have told you they did not have a good experience, the rest of the party has left to get in air condition. This just adds to the poor experience
Highly recommended. Always go for a filled pasts
Best Italian food in Richmond. Nothing comes close. Hand made pasta excellent. 5 stars.
Despite slow service our experience at Casa Italiana was very good. We enjoyed the food, atmosphere and wait staff. The noise level was good too. The choices offered were varied and creative offering both traditional Italian meals and newer, chef-created meals. We liked it so well that I met a freind for lunch there the next day! It was great too! Just be prepared to wait and have a laid back experience.
The place is not a setting for a quiet romantic dinner. The restaurant is very bright and tables are very close together. The service was great the food was good and overall it was lovely.
There were 7 of us celebrating my Italian mom's 85th birthday. We shared three apps: Eggplant rollatini, Calamari, and bruschetta. All were very good and we were impressed with the marinara that came with the eggplant and calamari. We each had a different entree and each was excellent. Of the seven entrees, my favorites were: veal with artichokes, spinach, and other vegetables; the squid ink crab ravioli; and the pasta with crab and prosciutto.
This was our first time and we were treated like the only ones there. The food and service was second to none. Thank you for everything.....we will tell all of our friends and family about this experience.
I have to say first that I was meeting a friend from Raleigh NC and I was also traveling three hours away from VA. We happened to see Casa Italiana online and decided to give it a try and boy were we glad that we did. From our server Tai Shan who was so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. She made everything sound so delicious!! When the food started to arrive it was in one word, amazing!! I would definitely recommend this to everyone. And I'll definitely be back!! Best Italian food I've ever had and that's saying a lot.
This has become my favorite restaurant! Not only do I recommend it to friends, I bring them whenever I get a chance! The guests I brought yesterday had never been and they loved it.
If you like southern Italian cooking, this is the place to go. I rate the food up there with New York Italian restaurants.
I hate to write a bad review, but everything that could've went wrong that night did and it was my sons birthday dinner. First, my whole family owns restaurants and your waitresses/waiter can break or make a dinner. We had the worst waiter! First, he really wasn't listening to what we were ordering, we ordered 3 appetizers, then we thought he woke up (we were going to order appetizers 4, but he said that would be to much and we appreciated him being helpful on that); but he didn't. After receiving our 2 appetizers, I waited about 5 minutes and asked where the third one was...he apologized and stated he was going in the kitchen to make sure they give it to us quickly. After dinner was serves, my husband stated, "What happened to his ( a family friend) appetizer?" He stated; "You didn't get it?" He came back and told us that the "runner" gave the appetizer to the table next to us; What?! Then he talked my husband in getting a Veal Marsala and my husband was waiting to try the veal marsala, but a chicken marsala was sent out instead w/out the side dish he ordered. Again, the waiter was apologetic, but it didn't matter, it was just talk! Waiter came back and told us it would take 15/20 minutes to make a veal marsala,so husband just told him to bring back the chicken marsala. Waiter, then told us that the was going to give us the side dish that was told to us came with dinner, for free. For free?! That was suppose to come along side...you're not giving us anything for free! Chicken parm tasted like it was frozen, chicken marsala never!! Will never go back. Our bill was &112.00 for a horrible experience!
I'm so glad I found this gem on Open Table. The food was amazing and our waiter was attentive. I will definitely be a repeat customer!!
Our server Trevor was wonderful, attentive appropriately. Food was delicious and priced well. We will definitely return!
I was traveling to Virginia for work and we found this gem thru a google search and boy were we glad. We loved the story behind the restaurant, how the pasta was made fresh on site and how delicious the food and cannolis were! If I travel back to Richmond I’ll be sure to stop back in and will tell friends about this place.
I have been multiple times and the food is amazing! The pasta is super fresh as they make it themselves as well as the deserts, my favorite desert is the tiramisu and it’s one of the best I’ve had. It’s a cute little family owned restaurant and I highly recommend it!
We always enjoy varied and quality cuisine. Only thing lacking is enough wait staff at peak times. Our waitress was nice enough but totally overworked.. beverages took a while and she disappeared for long periods. Not her fault!
We enjoyed their homemade pasta and sauces. We’re there 3 or four times a year and they never disappoint. Also they were open on Monday evening.
It was a good resturant to go to but the food was only okay.
Very quaint restaurant! Reservations definitely recommended! We were seated immediately because we had ours. Our server, Trevor, was excellent! He had his hands full, but gave us and everyone else personal attention. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo; she said the pasta was perfectly prepared! I had the Gnocchi; excellent flavor! Our Caesar salads were tasty, too, although we might recommend a little more dressing. We had the chocolate cake for dessert; delicious, but could have been a little more moist. Overall, highly recommended!
Went to dinner with friends, the service was very good. The waitress was very attentive and was familiar with our questions regarding menu. A little disappointed in the appetizer, some said the breading filler was heavy. Salads were good. One of the specials that night was tuna and it was cooked to perfection. The scallops were also delicious. The owner came to the table and she was very personable. The overall meal and experience were very good, we look forward to visiting again.
It is nice to have the chef/owner checking with her patrons to see if every thing is to their liking. Her personal touch along with her delicious food is a real winner.
Our first visit to this restaurant will definitely not be our last! Food and service were both wonderful!
Good food and service, nice wine selection, always a pleasant experience dining at Casa Italiana.
Really good food! Every time we’ve eaten here, we’ve been pleased. This time I ordered Vitello della Casa and finished with the chocolate cake with spumoni ice cream. Delish!
This is my wife’s and my favorite restaurant. Family-owned by folks that know what they’re doing. The staff has been great and greet us with a “welcome back” friendly smile every time we visit. On this particular visit there seemed to be some growing pains with new staff and a lot going on, which degraded our normally perfect experience (vibe, service, food, enjoyment). I know they’ll work it out and we’ll continue dining there as frequently (2x per month) as always.
Great food, reasonable prices
Encouraged by positive reviews we decided to try it. Sadly we were disappointed. Orders were taken promptly but it took about 45 minutes for salads to come out. More time for entrees. There were only two of us and restaurant was not that busy. The food seemed of fine quality, but too much oil on the veal parm and not enough seasoning on the scallops.
Outstanding people and outstanding meal...A Richmond gem!!!
While easy to drive past, thanks to the layout of the parking lot, the place is now our go-to Italian spot for Richmond, and a ready recommendation for friends. The space can get a little loud, but the food is invariably delicious, the specials change enough to add a little spice of newness while old favorites remain available, and the staff is incredibly sweet. The arugula salad and the mushroom ravioli in particular are not to be missed.
