Casa del Barco Ratings and Reviews
Booked a reservation at Casa Del Barco for a friends birthday, we had last minute changes with the number of people in our party and they were very accommodating. Our waiter was very prompt and patient to attending such a large group (8 people). We all got margs and got our money's worth! It was a very fun atmosphere and quick walk to other bars & locations downtown.
Food was amazing, service was amazing, great drink selection & ambience! We were celebrating my sister’s birthday and they asked if I wanted to have anything ready on the table for our arrival... I opted for the queso with chorizo and it was on the table and still warm when we arrived. Would definitely come back!
Our waitress Chelsi did a great job. She made excellent recommendations. The shrimp tacos, beef tamales and empanadas (shrimp and chicken) were very good. Our thanks to the kitchen for a job well done . Props to the bar for awesome daiquiris and craft beers. This is the second time in a month we came by for a special occasion. The manager, Ben, came by to check on us . He made great suggestions for drinks and food. Probably one of the few times I have seen a manager serving food and drinks to the customers. He took the time to stop and actually engage with the customers.. The staff does an impressive job of taking care of the customers. Looking forward to coming back.
Just stumbled on Casa Del Barco on accident last week and have already been back. Slightly reminds me of living in San Antonio, but with a very Richmond and urban/funky take. Food has been outstanding. I definitely will go back. Portions are large, dishes are creative, and a good drink selection.
First timer. I have to say, one the best dining experiences in a long time. The atmosphere was great. Our waiter, David, made excellent suggestions and looked out for us all night. Even the manager came by to talk to me about the local craft beer choices they had. BTW, Triple Crossing Falcon Smash and Stone Xocoveza were darn good. The Carne Asada and Streak Fajitas were fantastic. And whoever thought of putting bacon in the guacamole is a genius. We are definitely coming back again soon.
Another great visit to Casa del Barco. Kathryn, our server, was awesome. She was friendly, attentive and gave us some recommendations for drinks. The pork empanadas are my favorite item on the menu so I always get them. My only "complaint" is that Happy Hour only counts if you are sitting at the bar, so if you choose to sit in the dining room/patio it's full price for your alcoholic beverages. It was a beautiful afternoon/evening so I passed up Happy Hour to enjoy the patio.
We were so excited to finally try this restaurant. Such a disappointment. The water tasted like metal. The guacamole was the worst I've ever had. The gluten free items were very different from on line so be prepared to not have many options. The fajitas were completely flavorless and most everything tasted watered down. Even the blackberry sorbet that took 20 mins to get was terrible. I was sick the entire night and will never go back again. If your looking for amazing Mexican options I'd go with tazza kitchen. You won't be disappointed.
This was our first visit to Casa del Barco. I booked it for my husband's birthday and we both couldn't have been happier with this choice.
The restaurant is in a very nice place (canal could be cleaner though), both outside and inside is beautiful and unique. Really a hidden gem of the busy city.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and accomodating not only with birthday related wishes but also with my food sensitivities. We had great tasting food and very pleasant and prompt service. I don't know if it was because we dined early and the place was still quiet but We are willing to think that's how they roll all the time.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that they called me in advance to confirm my reservation and to talk about the details of my special request (birthday arrangements).
Three hour validated parking is a great bonus but it's not as simple to find it as website describes because the gps would not bring you to your exact destination. When it says you arrived, you need to turn on Haxall street and roll into garage from there.
We loved the unique menu of this wonderful Mexican restaurant. Our waiter, Nick, was friendly, informative and courteous. Everything is made fresh on the premises and you can certainly tell. Brunch options were unique and creative. Highly recommend and will 100% return the next time we are in Richmond.
We were very impressed with Casa del Barco. The ambiance was excellent and it had a gorgeous setting of lights outside. There was a wide selection of alcohol but they also had interesting options for those who don't drink. The menu is a bit limited but the food is amazing!!
Ambiance was cool, very unique. IN an historic part of town on the locks could see history of the flour mills and tobacco warehouse. It was empty on a tuesday night and they messed up my order, but the part that was not messed up was good and the manager apologized and took half off the meal.
After standing in the sun/heat at Brown’s Island for an hour trying to get some Eclipse glasses (and then being told they were all handed out within 10 minutes) I was beyond aggravated, so my husband and I decided to do the next best thing and have margaritas at Casa del Barco. Little did we know that this would be the best decision we could make under the circumstances.
We did not realize CDB was having an eclipse party, so when Ben the manager greeted our table and told us that we would be given eclipse glasses we felt like we hit the lottery.
Kevin, our server was attentive and kept the drinks flowing. We had guacamole and tortillas for an appetizer and the empanadas for our meal. Everything was fantastic. From the handcrafted margaritas (we sampled them ALL and they were ALL amazing), the delicious food and the awesome staff, we were so glad we chose to spend our afternoon here.
Thanks again to Ben and Kevin for an Eclipse Party we won’t soon forget!
We have dined here often and have always enjoyed it. It seems that they have changed their ingredients and our typical favorites were bland and they used lower quality ingredients.
For example the chicken fajitas were not the typical chicken breast pieces but seemed to be dark meat shredded. The mimosa pitcher tasted watered down. The steak fajita was chewy
Neither of the fajitas had their typical flavor. I don't remember what my daughter had but again the same thought. No real flavor. The queso was very good as usual but that's not enough to bring me back as if all three meals had the same response I have to believe something has changed.
The margarita was very tart, so I inquired and learned their margaritas are made with tequila and lime juice only. I asked to have a little agave added, and it tasted more like I expected. The chips and salsa were very good, and our empanadas and enchiladas were very good. We were very full and unable to,eat much of the rice or beans. The biggest drawback was the parking situation. We will probably wait until the next location is opened in Short Pump to revisit Casa del Barco.
I always enjoy sitting outside at this restaurant. The guacamole was really good. My tacos were way too spicy and i had to give them to my husband. I had asked the waiter if the tomatillo sauce was spicy and he said no so i ordered them. The other complaint was my husband ordered Larceny on the rocks and someone else brought us our drinks . Our waiter came by a while later and said sorry that we didn't had "Litany" so they gave you Bulliet. This should not have been done automatically. It is courtesy to check to see what you actually want. My husband was not happy that his drink cost as much as it did and there wasn't hardly even a tablespoon of alcohol...all ice! My mojito was good but, mostly ice.
Slow service that ended with the manager running out after us telling us we need to pay our tab. Our server had encouraged us to pay online using Zapper with our phones. Needless to say that was an embarrassing nightmare.
Service has been usually terrible any time we've tried this place. Nothing has changed.
I really like Casa Del Barco. I've been to the downtown location a few times. I highly recommend ordering the mushroom empanadas. Everyone that tried them voted that it was the best dish. I love the atmosphere most of all. It's fun, colorful, and vibrant. There is outdoor seating that looks over the canal. A definite must try is the tequila flight. I will absolutely be here again.
